Anyone following these symptoms would know that 3 years ago I started sleeping with wrist braces to help with my hands going numb while riding. It actually worked and I wish I would have been told about that when I was younger, I was 35 at the time and had been having numbness issues since my early 20's. On my dirt bike it made a huge difference, but I was still having issues on my CBR, but I don't ride it much so wasn't a big deal.
Fast forward to this summer, I installed a new privacy fence around my yard and had to demo lots of crap of my neighbor's that was actually on my property. After a survey and 3 year battle ended with me, a saw zaw, and a 40ft extendable boom forklift dragging their shed off my property. Anyway lots of sledgehammering, drilling, digging, and screwing later my hands are completely jacked. They're going numb right now as I type this, so I went in to a hand doctor. Apparently I don't just have carpal entrapment, but cubital entrapment as well. I'm having my right arm done next Tuesday and the left on the 17th, same day I get the stitches removed from my right. Sounds like I'll be off the bike for the entire month of September, but should be good to go after.
I'll update with my surgery experiences and once I'm back on the bike we'll see how improved my hands are. I was told today most people reach maximum benefits by 2 years, but the worse your symptoms the faster you'll notice an improvement.
As a side note if anyone is still reading, even if you're young, if you're hands are going numb while doing hobbies go see a specialist about it. I waited until driving my service van was making them go numb. Apparently every time it happens your damaging the nerve and once a fiber is gone it's gone. I've lost some muscle in my hands and I can build the existing ones up to regain strength, but the muscle fibers that were connected to the nerves I've lost are gone for good. I've hopefully got a lot of time left on this planet and I don't like the thought of "yeah those muscle fibers are gone for good"...
I’ve been dealing with a nerve issue in my right hand for a couple years. I have to ride at about 75% to keep it from going totally numb and feeling like I’m putting myself and others in danger. I’ve been trying some nerve flossing exercise on it with some results. TBH I’m nervous of getting a surgery on it as nerves are tricky and there’s no guarantee of results (look at AC). Hope it does the trick for you.
I'm seeing a specialist for Cubital Tunnel Syndrome in early September. I have had numbness in my left pinky and right finger for 10 months. Finally went to my new primary care guy and he had just had the same surgery about 6 months before. He said that I had already tried all of the stretches, exercises, braces, etc. that could be done and it was time to get a pro on it. I know that it happened on my first drive down to Dallas. Something about how I was resting my arm for the 24.5 hours straight drive from Boise to Dallas. It didn't hurt or anything while I was driving, but the next morning those 2 fingers were buzzing and they really haven't stopped since.
I did a injection and that stopped it for about 2 years but its back again.
I had a base fracture 2nd metacarpal in march, also have wrist & some th b pain that 2 ortho guys never really said much about. I”m riding with some pain and I noticed the last month my hannd wrist going numb while sleeping and after about 15-20 min moto”s…. Dread going back to orthopedic, can’t find one that seems to give a shit…

The DR that I went to pushed on doing the test on both hands (out of pocket) and claimed they both needed surgery even though I had never had any symptoms on the other hand. Since it was after covid It felt like a $$$ grab.
Done it on both elbows, Ulnar. Night and day difference. Did both at once.
Also done armpump surgery, and median nerve for strength loss.
If it wasn't for surgery I would have dropped riding years ago.
Been dealing with same issue for last three years. Went to specialist a few years ago and been wearing the brace at bed, then lost my job/insurance and wasn't able to go back. But being 50 as it is, the numbness while riding isn't good. Now that I have a new job and sick time built up, hoping to get it fixed this winter. Just sitting here typing is one of the worse things I do actually for the pain for some reason. There was some long thread on here about some guy in Florida (I think) that catered to the moto community and carpal tunnel surgery.
I had Carpal Tunnel release on my left hand three weeks ago and on my right a week ago. I am starting to notice a difference already. In three weeks or so I hope to ride again but without numbness. My numbness issues while driving are gone.
Surgery shouldn't touch the nerves, just cuts the carpal and cubital ligaments so they grow back longer. Basically making more room for the nerves and blood vessels in the joints. I think for whatever reason AC tried to have his nerve relocated, may have been an issue from his shoulder surgeries.
Go to this guy (actually found his place from an old Vital thread). Got my right hand done two years ago, procedure was all of 3-4 minutes. I was racing two weeks later.

I had the carpal/cubital surgery on my right hand/arm just before Christmas last year. I lost a bunch of hand strength for at least 4-5 months, and my elbow still hurts like hell. My left hand/arm also needs the surgery, but this slow recovery is more than I bargained for (takes a lot longer to heal now that I am a grumpy old man). Now I am not sure if I am going to have the 2nd one done.
Right arm no longer goes numb when I sleep and work at the computer, so at least that improved. I thought the carpal surgery would improve my hand pain, but no real improvement there. Pain is likely arthritis.
Good luck with your procedure.
This is the guy to go to.
Another vote for this Doc. I flew from NorCal and knocked out my left hand. Been awesome ever since.
The question is whether the problem is coming from carpal tunnel, or a nerve in your neck.
After separating my AC joint 25 years ago, I had numbness in my left hand and thumb.
The problem was solved by a few physical therapy sessions, with some traction on my neck.
I know from being friends with 2 chiropractors that surgery isn't always helpful. It really depends what the root cause is.
Hopefully there are better tests these days.
I hope all goes well!
Had both of mine done over 15 years ago. Instant relief and never had a problem since. (Carpal Tunnel)
Sounds too good goo to be true😂 my on,y concern is that he is located in lakeland….. if I remember correctly, nit much going onthere? Thanks for the cheesy russian website👌
I had carpal tunnel release surgery on my right wrist. My hand would go numb when riding a dirt bike. Amazing the difference. Doc mentioned I should get my left side done because it too is tight according their tests.
The surgery videos I have seen shows them cutting a flap, moving the nerve over, then stitching the flap shut to hold the nerve on the side of the elbow. There could be some variations, obviously.
My PCP had one elbow done several years ago, and he is scheduled to have his other one done in a few weeks too.
My biggest worry is how am I going to sleep. I had a very hard time wearing the brace at night and after a week with using that and doing the flossing exercises, had to give up the nighttime brace. I hadn't gotten any improvement over that time, anyways, except for about an hour after the flossing exercises it would be incrementally improved.

It worked for me and a lot of other folks. I’ve recommend this guy to a few buddies of mine that ride/race and had the same positive results. Website might suck, but dude has his fix for carpal tunnel dialed.
Lakeland is not to far from Orlando if you had to fly in. I’m about 3.5 hours north and got in the truck to drive home (by myself) 5 minutes after the procedure.
Hahah this hits home im sitting at work now with my wrist taped up, plenty of pain when I fold my hand to the pinky side, seems to flare up bad for a few days after moto or hockey... also have this weird shoulder blade pain same side my primary could really give a shit less like yea just keep eating advil
Looks like main difference is they use a needle to insert a cutting thread to severe the tendon?
Had my right arm done today, wasn't too bad. The worst part is the nerve block, currently feeling is down to my wrist, but my hand is still numb. Thinking about not getting the block on my left and just getting knocked out for it.
While you will feel it tomorrow it's definitely worth the initial pain.
Pain hasn't been too bad, I'm a commercial HVAC tech and I returned to work the day after surgery. Today I had 2 apprentices assist with a compressor change out, mostly because I'm on a 30lbs restriction, so I can't even carry my tool bag. Pains not bad, but my incisions itch like crazy. I still have the wrapping from surgery, not supposed to remove it for 3 days, so I can't scratch around them. If I'm not busy that's the worst part.
Had both hands done at the same time probably 5 years ago. Life changing for me. Didn't realize how bad i was and just kept calling myself a pssy.. Im a painter and a union carpenter by trade, so use my hands for everything, plus moto. Couldnt do two laps without being completely numb. Its completely gone in my hands. However, last 8 months or so im finding my pinky n part of my hand going numb. For instance, laying on the couch or in bed on my back, holding my phone looking at vital. However my elbows are bent then is what's causing it. I should get the elbows checked soon.
Get a PT and fix your shoulder mechanics, or you’ll be revisiting your doc for a frozen shoulder or thoracic outlet syndrome next.
Having the left done today, getting my IV inserted as I write this! Right is doing really well, had my stitches out this morning.
Surprisingly my left carpal tunnel was worse than my right, the Dr said it was really compressed. I rode my mountain bike yesterday 2 weeks out from my right arm surgery and noticed that I could feel parts of my palm that were dead zones on my left. It was quite shocking, I hadn't realized how bad it had gotten. I'm 38 and probably should have had surgery at least 10 years ago.
I'm feeling pretty good 2 days out from my left arm, but I made the mistake of looking at photos of cubital release surgery 😅... Kinda glad I waited until both arms were done.
A few years ago, after two laps on a Mx track, I’d lose about 75-80% of the grip strength in both hands. VERY scary! Felt like the bars would fly outa my hands at any time. Also had terrible numbness in both hands while reading or just having my elbows bent for a couple of minutes.
I flew to Florida and went to carpletunnelexpress The Dr did surgery on both wrists and elbows. Incredible improvement. Not 100%, because I waited to long, but an absolute success.
Surgery was super fast, and I drove myself back to the airport 30 minutes after the procedure.
Can’t recommend them strongly enough
