Team USA: Eli Tomac Takes Himself Out of Consideration

Half the time Vital says this race doesn't even matter anymore, the riders are risking injury for no pay, etc. Now it's everyone flipping out because the guy they want isn't going to be on the team

voice of reason....now the swingers will say it was the right thing to do and fall in line

Pretty sad that we can’t even bench race anymore without people like you getting your panties all wadded up

Yeah...far from bench racing, it was all out blind hero worship. The pile on was comically overwhelming.

There’s about 3 people here who say it doesn’t matter. Everyone else is pretty passionate about it.

According to ML and Lewis on the review pod Deegan won’t be going without Eli as it’s not our best team. I hope Hymas will fill the shoes. He’s really the only option left with Kitchen getting hurt. Isn’t this the same thing Deegan pulled last year? I agree with Lewis on this. It’d be great if they benched his spoiled ass in 25 when it’s at Ironman and he wants to go. Unfortunately they won’t though. That kid is a classless punk.

...whisperings persist that if Haiden chooses not to go represent the USA for the second year in a row, is he ducking formidable competition from DeWolf, Langenfelder, and Coenen, on a track and place he is not at all familiar with?

I would think if the Deegans want to compete in that race, you had better believe Star will find the budget to put two bikes together and crate them.

If Haiden does go, they need to do baseline  testing with the different fuel spec, so time is running a little short. The Yamaha 250's in Europe are quite a bit different than the Star motors, so I'm not sure how much useful data they can share to help Star set up their 250F.

Also, he would probably have to pit out of the MXGP Kemea rig (I don't think Hutten is going as of now) so it would be very different to what Star racing does here, and that rig has no place to hide from the fans, they get a small cubicle to change their clothes behind the pits and that's all.

Finally, he would be the only Yamaha 250/MX2 factory rider competing at the event (unless Reisulis is selected) so they would be on their own when it comes to bike setup for a track they have no current data for.     The only teams that have tons of 250 data and multiple mx2 bikes competing at this event is the KTM group.

I believe this would have been true last year too. If a rider of Deegan’s caliber wanted to go Star would make it happen. The caveat of “only going if we have a chance of winning” is subjective and an easy out/ easy in for the race.

So the same stuff that every team travelling overseas has to deal with every year?

Deegan is obviously a great talent but it's hard not to start drawing the conclusion that he only wants to compete when all the cards are in his favour.

Not to mention a pretty crappy attitude to take.

You can’t possibly be serious, Dog Lover.  Your post is the same as if someone read your user name and said “I think this guys hates dogs.”

I wouldn’t ever pick Deegan, if he doesn’t want to go without Tomac this yr. Send guys that appreciate the honor of representing their country.

When RD is able to decide what HUSKY/GasGas bike will fill the mx2 spot.

easy to just send RJ now to avoid the “teams not wanting to pay” factor.

Who is the best rider to never race the MXDN? AC? Brownie? Although Brownie was technically picked twice, just never got to ride it.

Think Deegan just earned that spot if he bails again this year.

I guarantee Tomac is the alternate. Don't forget there's 3 SMX rounds left...

It was pretty obvious AP has already been selected, AP seemed very emotional and grateful in his interviews last weekend like there was more going on, also in the Weege show he congratulates AP on whats to come.

AP earned the spot on Team USA. But what are the odds that Eli beats him in SMX?

Without Tomac, Deegs seems unlikely.

Looks like it's going to be an all Austrian team again.

Sexton - Plessinger - Hampshire

If only RJ could get a start...

This would be Hampshire's second year on Team USA, so he knows how the event works now and who the fast guys are.   He would be pitting with the top two MX2 guys, so bike setup would be easier.

Personally I would like to see Hymas take the slot if Deegan decides it's too intimidating, but RJ  is a solid choice if thats what they decide...

It's annoying that Deegan doesn't want to go if Tomac doesn't go, but i cannot entirely blame somebody who doesn't want to waste a weekend of their off-season with a team that took Aaron Plessinger over there.

Like I said before, Justin Cooper would be better than AP. MXON is like the post-season of the nfl. you want guys who are clutch. AP is dak prescott.

It’s almost like there is more than one person here with an opinion. “Vital” is a collection of many people with many view points, so saying “Vital says this” or “Vital said that” is quite foolish and pointless.

Poor cowboy fans. Prescott compared to AP is funny though....and pretty accurate.....

Vital is the ONLY social media site I use...moto or otherwise and I spend too much time here as it is.  Unless i missed it...is there a video interview of Deegs uncategorically stating the he will NOT go unless Eli is on the team?  None of that, "I heard" shit.

He hasn't had any problems speaking his mind since he made the scene.  If that's his opinion then just say it so we can move on.  If it's horse shit then he can set the record straight.  Not that big of an ask...imo.

I think Deegan not wanting to go unless it's a "winning team" is him protecting his image and nothing else.

No...it went from speculation to a rumor and then fact in about 3 days on here....only on vital does this happen...in reality it's still just speculation...

Does that mean Deegs doesn't go? Not sure if it was just a rumor that he was only interested to go if Eli goes.

I would say Deegan doesn't go. I don't think Star wants to pay for just one bike to go.
