Was aways a huge James Stewart fan since seeing him race in person on Team Green at the old GNC amateur nationals at a now closed track called Mosier Valley in the Dallas/Ft Worth area on 85cc bikes.
He became one of the best to ever swing a leg over a 125, and invented the scrub.
One of the few riders who remained my favorite despite leaving Kawasaki for Yamaha for '09.
After he retired, (I didn't like how his career ended, but it is what it is) I know he supposedly starting playing a lot of golf. Got married, started a family, moved off the ranch I believe to Orlando? Then after kind of being off the radar so to speak, he started his podcast and slowly began being more visible in the sport again.
I get he has his Seven brand and has done other stuff, but other than reading about 2 years ago he was maybe working (for a short period) with Chase, does he do anything else at the Stewart compound? Do any of you know, does he work with any riders at all? Does he do any light training and or ride with Malcom? (I'm sure Malcom mostly trains at Bakers). Does he still ride an MX bike some? Mostly just curious.
He's never put on weight from his racing days. Would be cool if he ever decided to run Vet at Loretta's.
If anyone has input on this great. I'd just like to know if he still gets on a bike now and then and still rips?
Who's gonna tell him...?
Stew seems content, I’d bet anything I have he never does Loretta’s. Stew got thick after racing and lost weight. He’s a mastermind in the booth and we need him there every week
I'm not talking about taking him out of the booth. I'm wondering if he I guess in his personal life still goes to the compound and pounds laps now and then.
Or if he currently, or recently has worked with any riders. Like if he's still active in that aspect in moto at all? His personal enjoyment. His way of destressing or staying fit. He appears to still be in great shape.
After he retired he got fat, his words, and hated dirt bikes for a few years. However, after being able to get past all that it appears he became a fan, is great to have in the booth and be involved in the sport. I too often wonder if he spins some laps for fun. Actually, I wonder about this of a lot of ex pros that have disappeared from the sport.

Pounding laps probably ended when he quit training for racing.
Riding some? Maybe but that is not his full time job anymore so he has probably backed it down to not risk serious injury.
Yea, pounding laps was just an expression. Like I said after, maybe he still rides to destress or stay fit? Was hoping someone who maybe knows him some would chime in or even some that maybe train at their compound and add if they ever see him gear up for some fun. Also, for apparently a bit he was working with Chase, so I wonder if he still does that on the side at any level?
He could throw massive whips back in the day too. Damn he was talented.
He said on the broadcast yesterday that he had a 24 Honda
James has really grown on me the last couple years in the booth. He's gotten better and better. I enjoy listening to his insight into what's happening on the track , and his wealth of knowledge. He is one of the best ever on a certain thing....
That thing being , when he's calling the race , he sees everything that's happening, and calls it out live , right then. I always got frustrated watching things happen on the screen and the guy in the booth is either way late on it , or doesn't even call it. James is one of the very few , that sees things I didn't even catch....and my eyes are glued to the screen. He's come a long way , and I hope he sticks around for a long while! Dude is kicking ass in there!
I recently saw a video he said he has zero desire to get on a bike. So hard to say. I hope he atleast rides for fun, but from his statement, I would guess he either doesn't or doesn't want anyone to know he rides.
I have no idea what all went down but he is a legend and meant a ton to this sport for a while. Obviously needed a break from all of it and I'm glad he got through everything and didn't stay bitter and he's back home making a place for himself again. Seems like he is a real family man now and that can do wonders for helping you let go of some of the past or put things in perspective for you. He's grown a ton as a broadcaster and i really enjoy him on the call now. I'm sure we'd all love to hear the story someday and maybe he'll tell it as more time passes but either way it's great that he's back. I hope the full time gig is his the second he says he's willing to do it.
I think to stay as slim as he is he has to ride some. I’m the same age as him. It’s hard to stay that thin without some type of passion to push you.
I guess some people like to eat like a bird and run all the time but I’m not one of them and James doesn’t strike me as that way either.
No, he hates the memories riding brings him and doesn’t even like going to the old compound. He does like taking his kids there to ride, but he doesn’t like riding. I do know he got on a bike and threw down a few fast laps when he was riding with his kids, but don’t know if he still does that.
He lives in a gated community and golfs everyday, and exercises. He started his exercising because he got fat, his words.
How are you so close to them?
That's kinda a bummer to actually hear if true.
Reed mentioned trying to pressure him into getting back on a bike to ride for fun. He wouldn't do it then, and probably won't do it now. I'd guess maturing as a racer is realizing your competitive nature and keeping yourself safe for your family.
Maybe we need AC and Matthew to do another “finding stew” video and finish where they left off
Probably has a 25' now after last 2 rounds...
