Your riding pet peeves

When my buddy rips his foot long bong like a freight train at the truck and then promptly dusts me once we get in the woods.

Owning a 8 to 10 thousand dollar motorcycle and putting electrical tape numbers in it !!

For me, It's a guy I smoke every time we race but when it's practice day, he'll wait until I'm 4-5 laps in and then jump in on me like a hero.

Ratchet straps are good for tying down a load on a flat-bed tractor-trailer truck. Way too much trouble to use on a motorcycle in my opinion.

He shall remain nameless, but a certain LACR local did this to me on Saturday. I was on a sighting/warm up lap headed up the hill to the top part of the main track on the far outside line and he swept into my line and absolutely roosted the fuck out of me. I was not a happy camper about that so next time around I put him down in a corner. Dude didn't have the balls to come up and talk to me after. Wink

for me its people who dont know how to load and strap down a bike.  people that use rope, or a single ratchet strap all over the bike, or they are looking around for some to help them lift it into their truck because they dont have a ramp.  Even worse is when you help someone get their bike into their truck, and then they dont have their straps ready, their straps are still in the Home Depot bag because they just bought them, so you have to hold their bike while they figure out how to get their straps out of the package and and put them together

Lets hear some of your pet peeves when riding with buddies. What are some things they do or don't do that just make you shake your head.

For me my top 3 are:

1. Not having their bikes ready. I make a habit of cleaning and prepping my bike as soon as I get home from a ride or the next day. I hate when we get ready to head out, and my riding buddy is like "hey, I need to change a flat, my air filter needs changing", etc.

2. Ratchet tie downs. I have a couple buddies that just use whatever tie downs they can find, and when they are the ratcheting type, I shake my head.

3. Parking lot heroes. No helmet, tennis shoes doing wheelies in the parking lot or staging area. That shit pisses me off.

lets hear some of yours.

#3 the parking lot assholes. Used to call them Poindexters "reference to Gary Semics video tapes showing you what not to do".  In the same spirit tracks with a rule to walk your bike back to your pit when a race is over and you're off the track....the assholes who got their ass kicked or pissed off and would ignore the rule and go flying through the pits nearly hitting everyone including kids.

I remember the videos and “pit squids”

Oh I like this idea, mine are mostly woods as thats 80% of my riding/racing

That one buddy that shows up just late enough after you planned to meet that you are ready to go ride and he's just pulling in so you have to wait for him before going in the woods.

Parking lot warriors especially when its dry and dusty, I've never seen a parking lot warrior proceed to be fast on the track.

Off-road races when a lapper waves you by and then proceeds to crash into you while you pass him.

At a dead engine hare scramble start when guys have to start their bike and rev the absolute piss out of it before every row takes off.

A topical one this time of years is non stop bitching about the heat, you knew what the temperature was going to be and decided to come ride. Its North Carolina, its this hot every year a little bitching is fine but some people act miserable.

And the worst pet peeve of all is having to do adult stuff on the weekends instead of riding.

Mismatched gear

Goggles way low on the back of the helmet

Bikes that have the packing blown out and need repacked

Showing up with a dirty bike from the last ride

Practice hero’s that think it’s race day. You can’t win practice. Chill

Pro Circuit pipe with FMF stickers on the bike - or vise versa

I wish I could say I knew who you were talking about, but I feel like there are quite a few LACR locals that ride like that Laughing

You did exactly what I've dreamed of doing to those guys! Had an older guy do that to me at Cal City a few years ago. I threw my hand up like WTF was that and he pulled off to call me over. He wanted to fight me over it and told me to go further outside. I was at the very top of the corner and was on my first lap out Laughing

Having “open practice” at a track that has a designated mini track, mini dads complain and want main track time so they break down practice… no problem i support the little rippers getting experience on the main track. But when there are 75 big bikes sitting quiet in the pits for over an hour while 5 minis are idling or doing the annoying wide open then coasting thing they all like to do, it gets hard to support. Now when the track opens back up to big bikes, holy shit, there are still minis out there!? I Ask the track owner and he just says well it’s open practice. NO ITS NOT! you are breaking it down, if i sit for over an hour after paying 40bucks due to minis, then when i go out there better not be any minis for me to dodge! It gets hard to be excited to go to the track, drive 1.5 hours, 40 dollar gate fee, and then sit in the pits for like 3 out of the 5 hours the track is open! It’s a business and 90% of your customers are big bikes why are you catering to the minis giving them as much main track time as big bikes when they have a designated track to ride? After the minis come off now you want to dump water on the track and we are waiting more time for the mud to dry out enough to make it rideable again, so in the hour the main track is open to big bikes again it’s only rideable for 20 minutes and 60-75 bikes are crammed out there making it too dangerous to even get laps in!!!

People that don’t know where or how to pull on or off the track.

Parents that send kids out onto the track with the big bikes…without any knowledge of what they’re doing.

Race parents, usually dads, that scream at their kids.

When OB goes by me like he’s from another dimension & reminds me how old & slow I am. Laughing

Any time that Carson dude shows up and he’s not on a two stroke. Woohoo

I am with you mx317 but to hold a bike down get pro taper straps, they cinch great, hold great and release with one hand.

I always seem to be the guy leading when we have a larger group. The other guys can't seem to figure out that you can only take trails the weakest link in the group can do.  My buddies will jump in front and lead the kids on mini's up some stupid technical hill onto a ridge with dropoffs, the kids get spread out and tipped over all over the place. Then there's the guys that just can't follow the group and inevitably wind separating and getting lost, then we spend the rest of the ride back tracking trying to gather everyone up. Every time we stop to regroup the younger guys will go look for a jump or want to try some hillclimb and pretty soon everyones everywhere lol.  I actually pull the old man card now and pass on the rides with more than 4 or 5 guys and or different riding ability.

pet peeve when off road riding the side by side crews of hoodrats with no riding etiquette destroying everything in the desert and leaving trash dirty diapers and medelo cans everywhere

racing thru where everyone is parked even when small kids are present , and last year an asshat ran over two kids and killed both and ran like a bitch.

hopefully he gets massive jail time

rant over (for now)

When your buddy always has to have a “rode soda” on the way to ride while you’re the one driving. Maybe I’m a prude.

That's what I use along with High Roller tie downs. They work well also.

I'm a dog lover but ...

Someone pulls up next to you and brings their dog,  ties it up , then goes out to ride and the dog yaps non-stop.  I know it's loud from the bikes at the track but I find a barking dog and that time of dog owner far more annoying.  I have 3 dogs and they'd probably behave ok but I wouldn't consider taking them to the track.

Any time tracks let all bikes sizes/skill levels from 50's to 450 A/B riders on the track at the same time during open practice. It is a potentially fatal disaster waiting to happen.

The parents of the kid on a 50, 65, or 85 who are egging the kid (who isnt jumping anything) on from the side of the track because they think the kid is both racing and beating you on an open practice day. Really you just dont feel comfortable jumping a 230lb motorcycle over juniors head.

These parents think Junior is going home with a pro contract today so long as he holds you off for a few more laps. Incredibly dangerous & frustrating.

Sending mini kids out on open ride with big bikes

No helmet visor

Going faster in the pits than on the track

Excessive revving in staging

People who don't take care of their bike (washing, oil change, air filters, etc.)

Riders mean mugging you on practice day (grow up lol) *its usually the wannabe fast kids who have daddy paying for all their fresh new equipment

Buddies wait till I'm 15 minutes into a 20 minute session, then jump on the track behind and want to race. Then come back to the pits and say how I was holding them up, and whats wrong with my speed today.

The guys who park so close, you can barely get your door open, and there's 100' around us available.

And as mentioned the buddy that shows up, and he doesn't have gas in his bike or have any with him. Filter is so dirty his bike doesn't run, or he has a flat from the previous weekend that he never fixed, and wants to scour your tool box for tools.

Hate that shit. I’ve got like 1-2 laps left of my moto and you wanna pull out, full energy, and pass me while I’m barely hanging on fighting arm pump, acting like you’re faster. Gotta love it

People taking racing WAY to seriously when we are racing 30+ C class, if you are racing 30+ C class for anything but to have fun and a little friendly competition with other guys that have to work Monday you need to rethink your outlook.

Sorry but if you are 30+ and not already a pro I think the ship has sailed for your career my friend.

but the old coot that rides the Pala vet track that will race you to the next turn, cross jump or run you high for that one straight away can kiss my ass.  Yes, I roost the eff out of him/them as soon as I’m clear and I’m 99.9% of the time not that kinda guy.

Hell, these days if you're not a serious prospect by the time you're on a supermini, you're already too old.

People who cut off sections they don't like at the practice track. I've already had to pass you 7 times during this moto. Also, people who just randomly pull off at any time with no warning.
