RV seems like such a cool dude! Especially when he gets a few cold ones in him! It’s a shame we never saw his personality while racing!

I have to agree with you. He’s shown a whole different side of his personality after retirement. It even took a couple years for him to loosen up to where he’s at now.
I spent 15 years in the amateur Mx scene with my son and being only two years apart, there were times that we lined up on the same gate. That being said, I got to know Dan a bit, over the years. But Ryan was always very to himself and took racing very seriously. Not sure I ever saw him smile much, unless it was on the podium.
I’m stoked to see him come back and enjoy riding his dirt bike again. It would be awesome to get James back on a bike, just for fun. Although he did say something about going back to Lorrettas with his kids, if they decide to want to do that route.
i've never run aftermarket triple clamps either, i'm no RV but you can't convince me there's enough of a difference for little Joey at Chicken Licks Raceway to need to dump that kind of money into triple clamps. buddy of mine went through a few different aftermarket sets a season. i still whooped that ass regularly.
But did he torque his sprocket bolts?

Take a look at what the top riders can do with a stock bike each time there is a brand day or new model launch.

Look at this and then tell me that there is anything the average joe would need to change on his bike that restrict him from going faster.
Interesting…. But to be fair, he didn’t need to. The titles just kept rolling in with what he had.
I put on my first aftermarket set a few weeks ago. It was a noticeable upgrade.
I saw the same set on a ktm 50 a few days later. Couldn’t help but laugh.
Lol
They make a huge difference, but as most people have no clue, mostly its fashion and vanity.
I’m assuming the other rider he was referring to is Reedy.
In his Gypsy Tales interview, Marvin was talking about riding a new 450sxf at Glen Helen. Completely stock. He said the bike didn't need anything
Do people really think he used stock rake on his clamps?
1/4" can make a big difference 'eh?
Who needs triple clamps!
I noticed you’ve been swinging from my nuts lately. However, that’s not what I asked.
If clamps don’t matter, why did he run different rake from stock ‘eh?
To answer your question. Yes, that can make a huge difference. If you’ve ever done any testing you wouldn’t be asking such a question. You’re probably a person who can’t feel change on a bike and it’s hard for you to believe others can.
If they make such a difference then you should spend more time testing clamps to get faster instead of protesting dudes numbers to get a win....
Yes, they make a huge difference! Rake and Trail!
I'm not a berm railer, rather I like turn in, thus I prefer a steep triple clamp. A few silly MM make a big differnce. Same with SAG. One gives up some straight line stability.
RV had his own style...

Yeah but how many triple clamps has he bent?
Pit Row
RV has said before he ran diff races to get the rake. And lots of shock changes. In 14 SX he was up to shock #57 on revisions. That’s crazy.
If you knew anything about the protest, you’d know it definitely wasn’t for a win and know what it’s exactly about. Have enough of those. Just won my 14th championship two weeks ago in that class. 😘
You can answer the question I asked or move along and stop trying to hijack people’s threads with bs that has nothing to do with it.
As illustrated above, RV steers with the rear tire so to speak. It makes sense he wouldn’t need anything but the stock triple clamp.
Factory teams sometimes have a test rider that runs through a lot of parts and narrows them down to what's good and what's not.
"Never tested" doesn't necessarily mean he never changed clamps. It could simply mean that he ran whatever the team wanted him to run.
We’ve known for a long time people don’t buy cool parts to go faster.
His CBS documentary special was so powerful. I never knew how much he dreaded racing. And the loss of his father, it’s very good to see Villopoto in a good mood lace with his life and moto and family
I did hear him say that. He said the bikes have improved so much since he was racing. I also heard Bubba say he bought a stock CRF450r and he said it was an excellent motorcycle
True. Villopoto was loyal to Kawi. I think they should’ve hired him as an ambassador. I love that he’s has a job with Yamaha but it’s so weird seeing RV2 repping the Blu Cru!
Good point! He did mention that his teammate Jake Weimer was huge on testing!
I saw him at MXdN ‘22. He looked relaxed and happy. He even smiled at me lol
Marvin is a good friend but he's paid by KTM. He won't say it needs KYB convertion forks as Sexton is using or different clamps... Take set up advises from people who have no skin in the game. I understand it's very difficult these days... But I agree, for the 99% of us, stock is way enough
The KTM company rider, what else would you expect him to say?
Post a reply to: Villopoto never tested triple clamps his entire career! Title 24 Live Show
