Knowing how all this works like I do, the state will probably change the rules soon enough and revoke the green sticker on transfer of title.

DMV struggles to get it right for 22,23,and 24 bikes so we'll see.

As long as I get a green sticker Jan 1st I won't bitch about it, as ridiculous as this is already.

Right? My '24 450RX may or may not have a green sticker headed its way. Definitely getting a red one. Laughing

Good choice, I bet.
I went to the Motor Cafe to see what KTMs they had that are 'CA compliant', they had like 3 total bikes, and one was a Husky.

Will I still be able to ride my 2013 Nevada plated 2 stroke and tell the rangers to kiss my butt?

The only time I'm getting rolled is if a ranger rolls up to our camp, otherwise if I'm being flagged down on a trail, that S.O.B. better be Ranger Larry Roeseler.

I just non-op registered my son's PW50 for $12 because he's 14 and doesn't ride it. I'm keeping it for when I get some grandkids in the next 10-20 years. I just realized I should do the same for all my bikes. Like several others have said before, the odds of even getting stopped are next to zero. And even if I do get stopped, "Oh, sorry officer, I just decided to bring this bike out of mothballs and totally forgot that it isn't registered to ride." I'll pay a fine.

It might look suspicious when three or four of my units are all in the same condition, though. Laughing

What’s worse is the green sticker was originally supposed to be for forest service roads! We used to ride all over big bear and lake arrowhead on bikes and quads all the time!

Have some sympathy for your fellow 'mericans. Most I know that are moving is because of the Ca politics. The others for taxes and moving to Nevada to stay close.

print your own green stickers and stick em on whatever bike you want

It's definitely not a good thing, but I'm not gonna lie, it pleases me to see grown men with 2022+ $10k dirt bikes cry about it. They're still rocking cars from the 50's in Cuba, maybe it'll toughen us up a little with our vintage 2021 flintstone machines.

California is such bullshit when it comes to any ICE. We live on 5+ acres and just went to buy a new sit down lawn mower and they couldn't sell us a new model, had to buy last years.

It's just the grooming phase - Cali is on their way to becoming the next Cuba.Grinning

It’s California. As Sumdood said, we don’t get what we vote for because we vote against this stuff but somehow we are completely outnumbered by the idiots in this state that hate us and everything we love.

Remember, electric won’t save this. It will always be something else until every riding area is shut down and bikes are no longer allowed in this state. Their ultimate goal. We are doing what we can, but unfortunately we just don’t have the numbers in this state to beat the other side.

For this particular issue, I think the far majority of the state does not care (they don't ride dirt bikes), have no idea such rules exist, and would be shocked to find out they do.

What if between rides just park your bike in the bed of your truck everytime. So when the rangers show up all they see on dirt is your green sticker pit bike that you love to ride the trails on.  I bet most tickets/fines will be issued while in camp.

I have not sold my 2014 and 2016 KX450s because I’ve been waiting for them to become green sticker bikes.

Frustrating topic to say the least. Im surprised all the OEMs haven't tried to help out. Love or hate CA its a huge market for off road. How does this affect Glamis? I haven't been in many years but footage you see there is no shortage of money out there. Cheers

Another example of California stepping over a dollar to pick up a penny.  It blows my mind that they don't want that registration revenue.  I have a green sticker, but almost want to register as non-op and just save the $54.  As mentioned above, the ultimate goal will be to close down all OHV areas.  With even less money coming in, they will find they need to cut back on rangers.  Where I ride I have seen 2 in the last 31 years.  If I was to run from one of them, it would take a helicopter to find me and they just don't have the money for that. F 'em.

Is that a legal riding area?  Sounds weird that sheriff would patrol a legal area.

Well this is how it works.  The state doesn’t have enough Rangers to check on legal riding areas.  So the state pays (you) the sheriffs salary and in most cases it’s time and half.

I have not sold my 2014 and 2016 KX450s because I’ve been waiting for them to become green sticker bikes.

In camp…yup…watched a ranger…at Gorman, of-course…follow a rider…my rider… into camp…scream at them and run up on them in a VERY intimidating fashion…then said ranger’s partner comes at me aggressively as I’m walking over…as they both get all “chest pumped” and authoritative…

I had to ask them, do they run up on teenage girls that are just learning to ride like this regularly? Laughing

When they were done explaining what an awful offense she committed…some 10-15 miles over the seed limit…on the main road…

I simply suggested they be sure to put both of their names and badge numbers on the ticket. I was nice. I called them “gentlemen”.

They apologized to me and my daughter. It had apparently been a long day for them. A busy weekend if you will.

We had a little talk between us dudes. They deal with and take A LOT OF SHIT…A LOT OF IT. I offered that I could see that and tried to understand it…but, they’re suppose to be professional LEO’s and they need to be more like a duck…one of’em laughed…knew exactly what I was talking about…”Water down a ducks back. Just another day. Let it go.”

Most all…hell, I’m just gonna say “all” these peeps are good peeps. Even the very few that are tree huggers or seem like “cops on a mission”. I’m of the mindset to cut them some slack…more often than not…you’re dealing with someone that -also- thinks a lot of these rules & regs are “Sacramento Bullshit”.

Go enjoy your ride.

I'll agree that the rangers in Gorman deal with A LOT of shit. Like WAAAAYYY too much. I've gone to the OHV side 3 times in my life and will never go back. Unsupervised kids(12 and under) with no helmets doing donuts in the campgrounds right next to our vehicles, people not paying attention and going the wrong way on 1 way trails just to name a few things.

Tried making small talk with the rangers just to be friendly and they've all been jerks except for the one girl that worked the gate for the MX track.

I’ve only been to Gorman once and it was on a Monday . The Rangers were way cool that I talked with.  On a Monday it was wild with idiots out there and I could see how it would wear the staff down.

Only time I’ve ever ridden at Gorman was a couple years racing the VCMC qualifier enduro. The sections through the Gorman valley were as scary as anything I’ve ever ridden, cars, trucks, quads, bikes, all over the course. Had a guy in a pickup literally race me on the flats trying to get to a turn before I got there, on a marked racecourse.

That’s where our green sticker money goes. And I’m kinda okay with that, it keeps the rangers busy there and they mostly leave us alone in other areas. State involvement has never made a riding area better, as far as I’m concerned.

That’s a wild story!

I tend to agree with you on the state involvement thing,  with the exception that before they started “downsizing” the inmate fire camps in California,  they provided a crew 4-5 days a week just to do trail work at one of our local OHV facilities (Stonyford/Fouts Springs).  That was definitely beneficial to the OHV community and an example of the State doing good work.
