As someone just happy that Ralph is gone, Ricky's announcing has always seemed liked a minor detail. JS7 does a better job in my opinion, and the bosses don't seem to realize a lot of people in moto can't stand RC's delivery. Non-moto people have no clue how respected Ricky is for his on-track accomplishments. RC will reliably make at least a couple big mistakes most weeks and JS7 can also be "flustrating." It took years of complaining before Ralph got replaced. Seems like Vital is the best place to complain, and get some entertaining takes from people complaining about complainers.

I must confess I was trolling a bit there.  Ricky has clearly put in the work and brings markedly more professionalism than the days of old. I appreciate the well phrased commentary and polished delivery, i.e., voice inflection and well chosen key phrases.  That, coupled with the insight gained in his G.O.A.T career makes for a win.

Weigandt has also improved bringing hype and color commentary to keep casual viewers engaged and excited.

Rickyism from last night: "an event of turns".  It's a 'turn of events' RC.

What's weird to me is that they have so many options that are good at being a commentator. Weege has rotated through a dozen different analysts in MX and nearly all were pretty good. Stewart, Brayton, AC, JT, GL, Daniel Blair (I know he was the play by play and not the analyst) all are pretty good.

I didn't care for Ralph and thought Emig wasn't great, but RC has been the worst at this in at least the last decade, in either role. And as pointed out above, who cares whether the announcer was the racing GOAT?

Much like the way they treat RDL and cram stories into live in racing, it seems like someone over thinks the broadcast and can't get out of their own way. Just put people in the booth that can speak smoothly and know the action, then let them call it. It's not hard...every other sport can do it.

Rickys massacring of the English language is part of his charm.

All the expert commentators  have been great - really adds to the broadcast.

Nit picking the commentary means everything is going well.

Put some elbow grease on that wheelbarrow and you’ll be all good

Weege made big mistakes also, he called someone was in the lead when they clearly weren't and called that Roczen went down when he didn't.

Shit happens, RC is definitely suffering from CTE though.

When or if AC replaces Ricky in time you will learn to get annoyed at him too, just give it time.

Sooner he leaves the booth the better the broadcast will be.

If they do bring AC into the booth I hope they can all get together and have a meeting of the Mayans to figure out how RC and AC can coexist in the booth together.

That won't happen unless it's a guest sit in.  There's two shoes to fill:  the analyst with insider knowledge and the color commentator that's excitable and brings the hype.

RC has been really good as a guest on various podcasts lately. Wish he could bring that version of his speaking into the booth.

I feel like for a while RC was trying really hard to speak properly, sometimes even correcting himself when he’d say something the wrong way. Now it seems he just lets it fly and gives it that ol’ redneck flare.

Big fan of RC. But not as a commentator.  Please have Weege and AC in the booth and JT on the floor.

This thread proves to me that a certain part of moto fans just don't get 'it', nor do they want to get 'it'.

I feel bad for that population.

Sport is brutal at times; applies to broadcasters too...except for Carmichael.  Time to send the GOAT out to new pastures.

Ricky on the first lap: “lotta racin left!”

Ah good to know 👍

My observation from last night is how any racer who isn't a rookie is... a veteran. I mean, riders who I would consider veterans would be racing professionally in the upper 90% percentile of riders (Windham was, Nicoletti, Davalos etc.). And what does it matter anyway?; Lawrence went 24-0 as a rookie. Anyway, if anyone has a bingo board, put "veteran is mentioned, take a shot" and you'll be on the floor by the main event.

Even the "technology" of overlaying a couple ghosts was pretty lame. Fairly sure Mario Kart 64 was doing that in the 90s!
