…as for Hunter. The fans that are taking the time to post are generally core fans living in the sport. In other words…people paying your paycheck through product purchases. Asking how they can be wrong 100% is idiotic…. first…because they usually don’t agree with each other, and if they do maybe listen, so it’s not going to be close to 100%….and second…you need fans to make money so maybe don’t shit on them. Them criticizing you is part of the awesome privilege you have of riding a dirt bike for a good living….so remember that…and maybe thank them for that awesome life you are living. Riders are often tough as nails riding through bad injuries….but sometimes not as tough emotionally.
RC often goes on about the keyboard warriors. However, it's clear that he's not so much bothered by their takes as by their criticisms of him for his shoddy commentary.
Remember Dark Seid did his piece about the broadcast? What I would like to know more than anything is what is the justification for doing these things on the broadcast that are supposed to be for the 'new fan' and to grow the sport?
If they could provide data showing that at least they would have some kind of explanation for why the show appears so terrible.
Specifically:
1. Where is the data - presumably from focus groups or social media analytics - showing that people want 'storylines' and 'back stories' to get to 'know the riders'?
2. Where is the evidence to show that audience numbers increase by showing split screens, by having multiple commentators, and by inserting interview segments in during the races?
3. Furthermore, what is the demographic they are going for? Male, female, young, old, rich, poor?
I find it very hard to believe they are not basing their decisions on audience data. They clearly are not listening to the existing audience, so the only rational conclusion must be that all of this shite that passes for a broadcast is for the mythical 'new fan'.
Not one of you guys here would ever say this stuff in person to RC, RV, or Hunter. I believe that is the definition of a keyboard warrior.
I’m not saying I’m any different. If I saw Hunter in person I would fangirl harder than a 13 year old at a Taylor Swift concert.

The point with RC is not what he knows, but the ability to communicate it. He could know everything there is to know about the sport but if he can't communicate it in cogent and clear ways during the broadcast it's useless.
I would have no problem telling RC he is as terrible at his new job as he was brilliant at his last. No problem at all.
Au contraire mon frère. I wouldn't go out of my way to do it but if asked I would be tactful and give my opinion. These are just dudes that can ride dirt bikes really well.
Send the add guy an email asking for info on adds and You should get most of the answers You are looking for and likely a ton more. Stuff like that is all in most of the info packs I see when I get info for running adds. So some stuff is meant to bring new fans in, some is meant to bring $$$ in.
They could have long-term advertising contracts from before they were getting paid for the races to be shown. Might just be trying to make money, maybe trying to keep those sponsors happy and keep running the adds because it has worked well for both the company and Feld even though they could now afford to not run them.
It has been said a few times, that a lot of the fluff stuff they run are paid adds. Pretty much every time a thread pops up complaining about them. Somebody points out a lot are adds.
The info is out there and easy to find if You really want to find it.
No chance. You’d ask him to sign your hat and you’d be on your way.
"If I saw Hunter in person I would fangirl harder than a 13 year old at a Taylor Swift concert."
I have no problem repeating my post, it's factual and accurate, 100%.
The info from the teams is not 100% informative, in fact at times it's an outright lie.
Sure I would.
I appreciate the long post, but even Matthes points out how much RC holds back. He's stifled. He is afraid to be himself bc they've put him in a box. He probably does have more knowledge but it rarely comes out, and he'd apparently rather play the assistant play by play guy.
He wouldn't say it to my face either, so guess that makes him a microphone warrior....
The entire moto industry thinks that riding a dirt bike fast qualifies you for every other kind of position in the industry, and it makes the whole enterprise a joke compared to what it could be. Business degrees for the people on the business side? Journalism degrees for the journalists? Sales experience for the product reps? a high school degree for the face of your broadcast? Who needs any of that stuff if you made enough mains back in the day?
The result is everyone having a giant case of imposter syndrome and being very insecure because they know they aren't qualified for the job they've been gifted. Too insecure to let anyone see behind the curtain. Too insecure to engage with the idiot fans. Too insecure to take criticism. Too insecure to change how they do things. Just start a podcast or a vlog. Once you're in, you're in as long as you obey the motobro code. Don't be too good at what you do or you might make someone else look bad and get the blair treatment though. People in the know constantly refusing to enlighten any of us idiot fans because "reasons" then want to criticize us for not knowing what's going on. It's all so dumb.
No. A very stupid man may try that. Once. That pic looked like an awesome place to ride.
I was kidding....
...figured that would be pretty clear.
In all respect, bullshit, you and I have never met friend, you do not know me. I have mad respect for RC as a rider, and have his autograph on several things, have met him several times, and have some memoribilia. But make no mistake he is a shitty presenter of the sport on air, he is a below poor public speaker, and is pettiously jealous of the success of his fellow presenters. On air he makes the sport look as bad as he made it look good as when he was in the seat. To tell him otherwise is disrespectful, unfair, and dishonest to him. He, of all people, deserves the truth. He is a stubborn ginger, but a sports caster he is not, unless for comic-relief. He deserves the truth, honesty, from his fans. Does anyone really disagree with this? Does anyone really think fans should tell RC he's doing great? It's hurtful watching him honestly. It's like watching a fat kid trying to run sprints at a track meet.
The most I would do with one of my moto-heros is a fist bump and say...."thanks for all the great racing" and leave them the hell alone. I can't imagine anything worse than drooling all over someone and how uncomfortable that is for them.
I've never been a "star struck" type of person. Been around a number of celebrities in my day... My favorite "celebrity" story is one involving Jamie Lee Curtis. Friend of mine worked in the industry and we would go to a lot of the early test movie screenings. Most of the time, the celebs didn't show, but this time, Ms Curtis did. The movie was "Blue Steel".
Mark and Brian (KLOS DJs for those who remember) hosted this movie screening and upon entering the door, they handed out cards to fill out info on yourself and one of the questions was "do you have a stupid trick". Of course, me being the incorrigible smart ass that I am....I wrote "hand farts". You know, where you blow into your hand and make farting sounds.
So Mark and Brian come out on stage and introduce Ms Curtis and the usual blah blah blah. Then they announce we've got a treat for the audience and proceeded to call out my name. You can see where this is going.... I sunk in my seat and my friend jumps up and starts yelling...."here he is". Bastard.
So I go up on the stage and proceed to do my "stupid trick" while Ms Curtis is standing there 3 feet away. I let it "rip"....the sound was epic coming thru the sound system of the theater. She laughed and said "impressive".... I stuck out my hand and said "it's been an honor" but she wouldn't shake my hand....she said "I don't think so". I can't blame her..
Oh....the stupid thins you do when you're young.
Pit Row
Bingo, great summary.
I'm not going to go out of my way to insult people in person without just cause, but it's the same vice versa. A couple of 5'6" former racers wouldn't dare walk up to me and call me a keyboard warrior so I don't understand what their point is there.
And it's incredibly ironic that a bunch of homeschoolers with no college (and in many cases high school) degree are going to insult the intelligence of fans who are likely far more educated than they are. Being able to ride a dirt bike really fast doesn't make you smart or qualified for any other profession.
Sorry Mfan, I got that, but was in an irritated attitude when I commented. I'll take it as a "learning lesson". And it still looks like an awesome place to mtb.
He's correct ^
Deoderizing bowling alley shoes is still better then winding up as an engineer
In general RC and RV are pretty spot on/accurate…. The “#3 will never win again” thread is a perfect example of this….
Keyboard warriors are a demeaning term used against anyone that isn’t a multi-time champ and has an opinion that isn’t the same as RC/RV/Hunter/whoever.
While there are shit takes only meant to crap on the racer, some are well thought out but still pointed criticisms. If you didn’t have the criticism, you’re just in an empty fanless echo chamber telling you want you want to hear. Those echo chambers don’t pay well either.
thats a good fking story. one for the little uns. bad form on her for not shaking your hand. syndey sweeney would! (wish)
It was. And is. Heading back there tomorrow morning.

No worries man...
Sometimes it's hard to tell on the interwebs when someones joking. Lord knows, I've pissed of my fair share of Vitalians because of this.
RC and RV should not even mentioned it.
There's no pleasing some fans they will complain for the sake of it, complain about RC, complain about Ralph for not knowing the sport, complain about the Australian commentator for being English etc.
As long as I can see the race I don't give a damn about who's dribbling what this sport has been average in commentary since the 90s, nothing new.
I would rather have RC (or any other previous rider), bumbling and stumbling his way through a broadcast, than listen to a fluent, well spoken announcer, spewing BS, about a sport he knows nothing about.
I was very surprised RV bit the bait and went there! Why would they insult the people who their sponsors want to buy their products.
75% of what keyboard warriors and factory hero's think or say is subjective. So they don't like some opinions voiced and resort to name calling and insults
