Just grabbed a McGrath Fatbar for the lil KTM 125.

Tried some stock Husky ProTapers, I always heard the stock husky bend was good, and I'm sure it is as it seems very flat and neutral, but I just don't get on with it.

For all of you Pro Taper fans; Turn14 is trying to bring them back asap. They are who purchased Tucker - (Who owned Protaper brand) It should be orderable by late spring. If there are any Turn 14 reps on here, Feel free to chime in, I'm just going off of what my rep told me.

Still find it so odd they’re not publicly announcing any of this. Support riders commenting on PT’s socials saying they’ve ordered bars months ago and the only response they’ve given this entire time is “they’re on their way to dealers”. It’s cool Turn14 swooped in to “save” these brands but it seems the customer service side of things is falling short (at least for now anyway).

Turn14 has been an interesting story. I'm set up with them but their freight/shipping policy is tricky for dealers. And if we got right down to it, Once Tucker bought the Protaper brand from Easton, I'm not so sure they weren't Chinese bars after that. Going to be interesting, I'll keep buying my Renthals from my rep, Spoonman and  Parts Unlimited. I'll post an update if my rep clears anything up.

Pro taper sx race

This. Trying out some ODIs at the moment but PT Evo’s have some really good comfort flex.

I’ve taken a pipe cutter to the last 3/8” or so of the twinwall bar mount portion with success. Gives you a little more room to bring your levers in, which I see a lot of guys struggling with on twinwalls or handlebars in general.

Bringing the levers in towards the center helps them not break or bend in a crash, and generally sets you up with a better attack position.

Twinwalls 999 is my favorite, very low bar, so low the crossbar pad will make heavy contact on the bar mount fasteners and wear the pad away pretty good. Which kinda sucks. Im 5’ 11” and a low bar puts my elbows up. A high bar puts them down. I never understood why tall riders want a tall bar, I guess for comfort when standing up straight but you really shouldn’t be in that position much.

Another downside to the twinwalls, would be how they accentuate a rigid feel. A rigid frame and rigid handlebar is too much IMO. But on a flexy frame like Kawi, I think the twinwall adds to the precise feel.

I’ve thought about that but never tried. You have convinced me to give it a shot. Thanks!

Young’uns won’t get that. Us older folks most certainly do though. 😉

Good post.

6’2” and 230. 48 y/o and ride 21crf450.

I also used to be a die hard rc bend twinwall renthal guy. As I got older I needed more comfort, especially with a repaired elbow

I now rock the Odi cft podium cr bend.  Damn good bar, more flex  and less harshness than any other crossbar-less option I have tried.

I think pro tapers are one of the best inventions in the 1990s. Before them I would go through handlebars almost monthly. We all kept a piece of pipe that would go over the handlebars to straighten them. My first set of pro tapers were CR lows. They held up so well. I went through four motorcycles before I replaced them. My throttle tube had worn so much material off I was afraid the bars might break. Incredible product compared to the old days of steel bars.

My bike is a T300i and I was happy with the stick bend but there wasn't enough room on the bars for everything so I was having to compromise my lever position more than I would like.

The 827 has a control area (7/8" parallel section) that is 222mm long ( 8 3/4") whereas the stock bars only have 180mm (7") of control area.

Worth looking at if you're after a neutral bar with more room for controls.

These are the best bars if you run your levers inboard where you should. Anyone coming from MTBs should love them too.

I’m just shy of 48 and my bar of choice is 997 Renthal’s. I’ve been running the same bars on various bikes for a very long time. Gives a neutral feeling just completes the cockpit/rider triangle perfectly for my size. (5’6)  current ride WR250F

My favourite bar is a factory suzuki bend . Very little sweep. Ran them on honda and yamaha.   I find the to high on my husky . So I like 996 twinwalls on it

Also worth mentioning, the Renthal works fit tool is an amazing resource if you are trying to figure out and visualise the differences in bar bends. You can look up practically any stock bar for comparison.

https://www.renthal.com/worksfit/

Here are a couple of screenshots showing the very subtle differences between the 827stew/villo and the 839 crf/kxf bends. Basically identical except the clamp area is brought in on the 827 which is why it has more control area and I believe would feel a little more flexible.

The second screenshot shows that the 821 McGrath bend is also very similar to the 827 and 839, just with a lower overall height.

I run these gold bars with super tacky 04 Honda grips. When u need grip you can’t go wrong with Honda grips.

Tried some stock Husky ProTapers, I always heard the stock husky bend was good, and I'm sure it is as it seems very flat and neutral, but I just don't get on with it.

There too wide cut few mm off each side and they are perfect.

Even though Renthal lists all the dimensions there is still a difference between certain bars. Most of the bends the pros run 821/827 the ends of the bars all sweep upward. If you compare them to some of the older bends you can see it. I think it helps keep your elbows up more.

When taking a pipe cutter to the "twinwall portion" I imagine the extra tubing will just slip off the end once all the way Through? I've been needing to push my levers further in, I thought about this but wasn't sure it was doable.

I am currently bouncing between 827 and 604 on my '24 350 SXF. I prefer the feel of the 604 everywhere, except I don't corner as well (which is important). With no other changes to bike I noticed I occasionally run wide mid corner and exit. I'm not keeping the front loaded or leaning, not sure which. For everywhere else, I much prefer the taller 604.
