144cc motors in factory 125s.

 EKS straps on Scott goggles

Good helmets painted to match a shit helmets branding

Factory frames used under production rules

Different bore and stroke in a 450

Riders claiming to use one trainer because of team regulations, meanwhile using another trainers program.

Different oils and coolants inside of bikes with another sticker on them

Was this a move by Kawasaki to get out of an underperforming contract or were they genuinely upset about the steroids?

It was a works frame with production geometry, not something a privateer could replicate by gusseting a production frame.

I wouldn't be surprised if Honda is still making works frames.

Didn’t RV2 run FMF pipes with the logos removed at Factory Kawasaki when the team was sponsored by Pro Circuit. Heard it on a PulpMX show back in like 2012 I think. RV2 and I think the guys name at Kawasaki was Bruce Sterenson were butting heads at the time.

I thought that was because of the FMF energy drink debacle.

Mike Fisher put the fmf pipe and silencer on because it worked better. He was fired ant the end of the year and the PC pipe was back on.

Trey Canard raced two nationals during his HRC days on KYB suspension with no stickers, when the team was full Showa. On week three they finally started running the stickers.

There have been some other minor suspension ones over the years. Like Cooper Webb running Factory Connection tuned suspension last year at Red Bull KTM without the stickers. Justin Barcia right now is likely on suspension that has outside assistance...

Handlebar thing has been common over the years. Running a smaller brands bar pad over a main brand bar like Pro Taper or Renthal.

Tomac running Renthal grips at Star instead of Pro Taper.

Race fuel...last couple seasons I've seen a top 250 team sponsored by VP with ETS fuel on the truck, but only in outdoors. Supercross they actually run VP.

Zycki11 wrote:

Ok the fuel one has my intrigue. Wonder why they did it for outdoors and the advantages it held over VP

When I was working for a VP sponsored factory team we switched to ETS as even the PRO6HT was boiling in our outdoor bikes. ETS didnt boil but with the fumes that stuff put off, and the fact it was in california, im surely dying of cancer.

25 years ago on the Racer X website, in his Electronic Ping column David Pingree explicitly detailed what substances he had seen in a teammates fridge and the general timing of EPO cycles within the AMA season.

The column was quickly scrubbed.

And when this post gets the same treatment, you'll know it was true.

I can't recall if it was '91 or '92, but Yamaha protested Honda's frames late in the SX season. Were those also factory frames with production geometry, even though they passed inspection?

From Dave Arnold's comments, I doubt any of Team Honda's bikes used production frames in that era, and possibly today.

Did Broc Hepler use a different brand helmet while sponsored by HJC?

I painted helmets for a '90's 500 GP rider who was paid to wear a helmet brand that was garbage. He bought helmets from another brand, then sent them here to be painted up in the colours and logo of the sponsored brand. Must've been a good pay check to have made it worth all the hassle.

No, it was later than that. I would've been honoured to paint for Bad Brad though! His flame Arai is possibly the coolest helmet ever.

It's just bubbly water LoL. I don't drink alcohol or coffee ,otherwise i would find a cheaper alternative.

Yea I had my 80's mixed up with my 90's. I did read a good article in which he also did the helmet switcheroo trick. He also ticked Suzuki off by running those Simons forks among other parts.

Yup, I'm aware it's just flavored water. I am also trying to cut back on caffeine and I'm tired of plain, non-bubbly water. Lemonade with cayenne pepper is good also. 🙂

on the energy drink topic - in the early 2000s I was in the pit area of a large privateer team, and before the heat races one of the riders was pissed that someone drank his energy drink. Not sure of the specific brand, but it was similar to 5-hour energy, the little bottles, not the large cans. So I can vouch that at least one pro-level rider that made main events would drink them.

The irony that i see people hating on energy drinks but eating fried food and consuming alcohol or pharmaceuticals is pretty funny.

Still definitely better to not drink them though just to be clear.

Kind of.. More like the fat person eating a big mac, a large fry, and nuggets on the side and they're now on an internet message board moralizing me about 12 ounces of carbonated water caffeine and B vitamins.

My oldest son who turns 30 in June tells his boomer dad that "boomers drink Monster Zero and his group drink Redbull." I'm not fond of either personally and prefer Vitamin Water Zero.

Alani-Nu and C4 are good alternatives to coffee. Less than a dozen ingredients and no dye in any of it.

Monster Zero isnt bad... I feel attacked Laughing lol
