Are leaving a lot to be desired in terms of creativity -- not to mention the lack of separators (whoops, dragon backs). A quick look ahead, and looks like Denver is almost a carbon copy of Indianapolis.

Indy:

Denver:

Nashville too isn't much better:

That's 3 tracks within a span of 7 races that have very similar features -- most of which are terrible for racing. Note that there's only a couple 180s (shit ton of 90s), whoops into a flat turn, and a basic double before a triple in all of these track maps -- all of which are not great for racing

I just watched an older race that had reed, stew and RC all battling for the win. Same race stew jumped off the side of the finish line and didn’t look when getting back on, causing Travis Preston to T bone him over the finish… I forgot how crazy different the tracks used to be. Even the way they packed the dirt seemed different. It wasn’t all soft and completely rutted out like we have now. The layouts were interesting, jumps were big, things weren’t super one lined. Comparing to now they almost don’t even look like the same sport

9 whoops into a flat corner is almost gayer than installing a holeshot device on your fork

If we’re going to remove certain features that have made Supercross what it is over the years…

If we’re knowingly making the tracks “easier”…

What does this say about this current year when compared to previous years of more difficult and more challenging tracks?

They don’t want anyone to skim the whoops let’s just put a wall jump in front of the whoops so you can’t get a good run at them

Over all the track designs this year have more 180s in total, but some, like Indy are not made with racing in mind. I'm not a fan of reusing designs during a season. As long as they stay away from the designs that have lanes going diagonally across the floor Ill be happy. [Please for the love of god ass more over/under].

Also SMX would be a great time to test the 11 wide double stack gate idea.

Almost as gay as bicycle basket full of rubber weiners.

I also think the track designs aren’t great this year. It’s crazy because last year had some VERY interesting track designs that were not cookie cutter. The first 6 or 7 tracks last year were all very interesting designs and this years it’s like they did the easiest path they could.

for nashville, will either of those singles across the start be jumpable, or just 3 singles?

3/18/2024 12:55pm

Even without lime, just bring back real loader whoops. What was wrong with whoops like this? Non-jumpable!!!

I feel the same way, last year's tracks were pretty creative, but I can only think the amount of injuries last year has something to do with the lame ass tracks this year.

Lets go back to 2009 when we let some ex riders design the layouts. Remember the 09 track Pastrana designed? There were some really awesome designs. Nowdays there isnt much creativity in my opinion.

Then Jett would be the only one jumping into them.....  Gotta be creative these days it seems.  Funny, the bikes get better, as well as the riders, so lets eliminate some of their "tougher" obstacles???  Somebody is tired of paying for dirt.  Shrinkflation????

There's a definite mandate for easier tracks.

I don't like it.  The tracks shouldn't be easier now than when MC was winning on a yz250.

This past Saturday was the first time I can remember in the modern SX broadcast age where I just didn't care about watching the races live. Tracks are exceptionally terrible and uninspiring this year.

I think i remember RCs track having no whoops. Windham's track was baddass too.

Im 100% sure that there is some sort of Formality that is causing this. Also you can keep the tracks as they are now, but why cant the track builders make the jumps have weird angles like how the tracks were made in the 90s?? Uneven whoops tabletops that were slanted on top, the wall berms.. there is so much creativity left off the table its frustrating, up until about 2010ish i used to absolutely excited for the track designs to look at them. Now i dont even care because they lack soul. and thats the issue... This is not nostalgia glasses. The older tracks seemed to have soul, unlike what we have now. which is a use the least amount of dirt and only build it like this. Its like the corporate problem, why dont people like them, because its has no soul, no flavor.

also what happened to the term "racing the track"? Seems to me the tracks are no longer the ghost rider on the track. (I know the tracks get rutted and crazy, but thats not what im talking about)

Yup....we've definitely gone backward.

It's all about the aerial acrobatics/gymnastics now.

And more difficult tracks, if you design them right, naturally slow down the riders and reduce the risk of injury.

I haven't been watching live with the exception of the 1st 4 or so.      I just FF thru most of it now.

It's to the point where I will probably just catch the highlights.

Only going to get more dull if Jett continues winning.

Those whoops and that corner should be changed for Denver and Nashville because it's obvious that doesn't race well.

Agreed. You cant have whoops into a flat corner.
Hopefully future rds are more inspiring.

I believe Detroit and Dallas were very similar too...

They should do the tracks like they did in '01, those were for the big men on not so good bikes like they have now

You know who you don't hear complaining about the easy tracks? Team managers and owners. Seems pretty obvious to me they've asked for this. Their primary goal is to keep their assets healthy and on the track so they sell bikes. They don't want their guy cartwheeling through the whoops as the bike gets mangled and then pushed off the track.

Guarantee you if the tracks were left up to the track builders we'd get some very interesting and challenging tracks. It's not like these guys don't know what they're doing.

They're glorified Stacyc tracks.

I can tell you what it says for me. Im a super fan. I watch every race, live if I can. I’m loosing interest fast. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m not enjoying the entire product this year.

I made the same comment in another thread. Couldn’t agree more. They’re boring, cookie cutter, and have zero creativity. Anaheim 2 is really the only track that had riders taking different lines.

You’re not alone. Saturday used to be absolutely dedicated to watching race day live and the night show. Now, I’m just watching the replay after the race is over. It’s a shame because the talent this year is one of the best we will ever see.
