did we give up after the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? nothing is over until we decide it is
Pretty sure what Blair said was they wanted to get Haiden onto the 450 before Jett gets really puts on stranglehold on the 450 class. I don't see the logic. Rushing Haiden onto a 450 to race Jett is a recipe for disaster. I can definitely see him riding over his head with his style. The caveat to all this was that he wins both titles, which is far from a certainty
It's obvious, he's ducking Forkner!!!
Deegan is no Carmichael or Stewart. He doesn't dominate the Jr/250 class. Does he have some speed? Yes. Is he miles ahead of the rest of the riders, only at times.
As people are commenting, lots of the 450 class will be graduating to retirement over the next three years. That probably includes Vince!

Yeah if I was Deegs I would duck the 450 class as long as I could because of that kid.
I'd wager Eli is done at the end of SX also. He don't want that Jett smoke outdoors. Just like Dungey went out when Eli was coming up..
For all the hype surrounding the kid, other than the SMX title he snagged when Hunter crashed himself out, he really hasn't shown me that much.
One win.
Not all that consistent.
I like the kid when the gate drops, and he's actually riding.
The hype, and YouTube persona...😴
But he's nowhere near ready to move to the open class, and race Kenny, Chase, or Jett.
My honest take is,
He'll be one of countless successful 250 guys that never quite reach that level in the 450's.
Funny thing with Dungey is he probably left a couple titles on the table. Eli was super inconsistent '17 mx. And I'm definitely putting my money on Dungey vs Anderson in '18 sx
That is GOLD!
I think that's being a little tough on him. His rookie year in mx, most people figured him for a top 10 guy and he competed for the title. The first sx this year was that shit show of a start. Daytona was a chewed up nightmare and you gotta think he was a little fucked up from pulling the eject lever over a triple. The one "normal" sx main he raced he won. But no excuses, he's 1 for 3 in sx mains this year. Unfortunately for him, he's going to have to face one of the greatest talents we've ever seen on a 450. He's going to be Kdub to Jett's RC.
Should have been doing the west coast 450 rounds, if this was truly the plan.
I see Deegan saying the plan is to sweep all the 250 titles this year and move up to 450 next year to challenge Jett the same as I see Jett saying his goal was to beat MCs all time win record when he had one 450 SX win.
It's fine to set lofty goals to be the absolute best, but you should probably keep those to yourself until you're much further along the road to making that a goal a reality.
Is it totally out of the question that Blair is on the Deegan payroll to push objectives to keep danger boy the talking point of the industry?
Yes
"No, I’d go make sure I could try and win my back to back title thing, right?”
“You want to get your 250cc titles before you go up to 450cc. I wouldn’t want to rush that because obviously you guys see how stacked the field is. To move up too early and have problems you know, if you move up too early it’s you got to be smart”.
“I mean that’s why I have you know my great dad he obviously is going to help me guide me through those things as well my parents my Mum as well”.
“There’s guidance behind this and yeah I wouldn’t move up that quick”.

So the answer to OP is yes
Because the Deegans have never said one thing and then done another before... Remember when they said he wasn’t signing with Star Yamaha when word got out when he was turning pro? Or if that's too far back, how about a few weeks ago saying there was no injury in the off season until his first finish that wasn't where they wanted it to be and then they were willing to admit everything the media was reporting and then switched the narrative to "superhuman status" with dealing with injuries in the off season.
I think Blair has shown he’s credible and this seems like such a weird thing to possibly just make up in a passing comment in one of his break down videos. If you ever listen to his podcasts or videos, you know he (admittedly, as a listener, kind of annoyingly) leans into zero gossip or speculation talk and says to leave the breaking news to every other media channel that wants the clicks. I listen to their Patreon podcast and this was also brought up months ago before that YouTube video posted a couple weeks ago.
Deegan doesn’t have the race craft yet either. The way he goes after riders in the corners and tries to stuff them, slow them down (the move on Forkner heat race) and hinders his own race. He’s still young. Especially when compared to Jett who in the same corner gets a 2 for 1, and the style in which he does it. Deegs got a ways to go.
DV does a deep dive in his YouTube about these moves. Really interesting and refreshing.
😂😂😂
this place can be fun!
Deegan looks great in the 250 class, but it is a whole diff game in the 450 class.
Would like to see Weege and Dan Blair in the booth.
Pit Row
Jett is only 2 years older but has a decade in additional maturity both on and off the bike
🤣🤣🤣
Let’s see, he lost to Hunter at almost everything last year, Hunter has not had an amazing rookie year, makes perfect sense for Deegan to jump up to 450s.
im the first to say certain riders need to move to 450, but Deegan moving up next year would be a mistake.
Currently in a close battle with Coty Schock for the SX title so yeah he’s got some years to go before the 450 class
Except Barcia would never turn down representing his country
I thought Deegan met expectations last year. He may not have dominated but he showed he has high end speed, he has a ton of heart and doesn't back down. It's cool to have those types of guys in the mix. This year has been so weird though. His win was when AF crashed and in his other races he has had incidents (some not his fault, but others were.) Plus he was coming in hurt and on a somewhat new bike. But that aside, he looks worse this year to me, than last year. I haven't seen that next gear that he is capable of. And he has been a bit sketchier. I'm even factoring mistakes in qualifying etc. Just my observation. I'm sure the injury is playing a role and maybe the new chassis too. I don't say this as a shot at him, I'm just pointing out that I fully expected him to take that next step this year and so far I haven't seen it. So we will see as the year goes on. But unless he absolutely destroyed everyone this season, 450s wouldn't even be on my mind for '25. There is no rush and I think he will take that next step, just not sure when.
“We’ll race him when its time”
The hardest thing to do in motocross. Or any sport really. Is to win when your expected to win.
That added pressure causes many ppl to buckle.
Generally that's what separates to good from the greats.
I think one of the reasons so many 250 riders struggle moving to 450s is because they learned to race supercross on 250s, against 250 class racers. Anyone who has ridden both a 250 and 450 know they are entirely different scooters, likewise by the time the 450s hit the track for their 20-minute main it is an entirely different track. Longer races and longer season too. Many people in competition rise to the level of competition they have, if you are stuck in 250s 4-5 years you will develop habits to compete at that level not the level above that. The sooner Deegan or any of these kids got on a 450 it may be better, I have thought Kitchen's style would transfer to 450s well.
I'm neither a Deegan fan or a Barcia hater, but he literally just did last year. Might have been a justifiable reason, but he backed out last year.
Barcia didn’t back out, he was injured.
