Stefan Everts won an ISDE overall and 10 GP titles. No sx wins but, he qualified and scored points. DeCoster would rank high as he had trials experience. It's an interesting thing to ponder.
I'd have to respectfully disagree with you on that.
I don't think his speed in the open would hurt him so badly. I also see that as speculation. I've never seen him compete outside of trials or highly technical trail/rock courses. For all I know he could be blazing in the open, but I'll defer to your stance on that, and even so I think he's got an edge.
He wins the trials event. He is at minimum, top 5 in the hard enduro, GNCC, and endurocross. He is maybe middle of the pack in MX and SX and let's just say he has a bad result in the "Baja".
I'd say his strength in his 'good' events far outweigh where he might be lacking.
Dick Burleson
Dick Burleson and/or Andrew Short
Stefan Everts
I’d go with Taylor Robert
He’s won
Endurocross, WORCS, Hare & Hound, Enduro GP and Overall the ISDE. He grew up racing MX, pretty sure he could have top20 an MX National. Beyond that he’s darn good on a trials bike!
Was wondering how long it would take for this name to pop up.
Haiden Deegan
Jarivs has had to start on the 2nd row at Erzberg multiple times because he was too slow to be in the fast 50 on the front row.
I don't think he'd be in the top half of the GNCC and not in the top 5 of Endurocross either.
No disrespect, I love the guy but he is much more a technical rider than anything else, speed is not his forte at all.
But we're not talking about their worst results, we're talking in their primes, for each discipline.
Jarvis was in his prime when that happened.
Like I said, I ain't trying to throw hate, I just don't think his actual "speed" is that good. His technical ability is off the charts but there are plenty of dudes with pretty much equal tech skills and a lot more outright speed....Billy, Manni, Teo, Wade Young etc.
The only events listed I'd expect him to finish in the top half of the field would be Trials and Romainiacs.
It'd sure be interesting to see some rich dude put up a HUGE pot and make something like this happen.
Paging Pasha....Pasha to the courtesy phone please.....
Toby Price.. Pro MX rider who went enduro.. but then went dessert racing.. the dudes a freak.
I mean I'd go for a guy who has experience in supercross and enduro, Zach O would be a solid choice, maybe Andrew Short?
Andre' Malherbe
Pit Row
X2. Finished top 20 in MotoGP. Even a pole position. Don’t rule out some MotoGP riders. They can ride anything. For now Jean Michel Bayle. 250, 500, Supercross champion in same year. Multi time world Mx Champion.
Don’t include motoGP guys. How about Mike Brown…50+, Stefan Everts (ISDE, 9x Mx World champ).
It's impossible to compare eras so I'm just thinking of modern riders on modern bikes.
Others have said it but it's got to be Billy Bolt. Obviously SX is a challenge, he's fast on an Mx bike, he'd almost certainly win endurocross, probably the second best hard enduro rider in the world right now, rides endurogp for fun and puts in a good effort, ex trials rider and has enough experience in beach races and technical terrain to not embarrass himself at Baja.
I think there's probably very few Moto guys that could finish a hard enduro, even Josep Garcia who's an enduro rider struggled when they did the WESS series.
I’m not being biased because this is a moto site. I’d have to go with someone with SX skills. A guy like Tomac maybe, or any number of current/past champions. In my opinion a great SX rider can take those talents and work on blasting across a desert, nailing a trials section etc.
But if you look at the other disciplines and expect the best GNCC guy for example and you stick him on a SX track, I don’t know if all the practice n the world would ever get him into a 450 main.
that being said I respect any rider who can make it into the pro ranks in any sport. They have something 99.99% of the population is lacking
Normally, I'd give the nod to the off-road guys, but I'd be willing to bet that Kevin Windham would be better at Hard Enduro and Endurocross than those riders would be at Supercross.
I got to go with Rick Melon.
I’ll just say this, I miss Danny Magoo Chandler…
I'm old, I've been around a long time and watched and ridden with (been overtaken by!) a lot of talented people. I'm in the UK so my experience outside of Europe is limited to TV and magazines (ISDE aside).
The guy with the most natural talent? Surely it's JMB. James Stewart, Jeffrey Herlings, Paul Edmondson and Toni Bou get a shout here too.
The most determined? Scott Summers or Joel Smets.
The most effective? Carmichael with Stefan Everts and David Knight close on him.
The most effortless? Jarvis by a country mile.
The one who'd win the OP's list? Billy Bolt.
Dante Oliveria or Joseph Garcia for current riders.
Shane Watts, Malcolm Smith
I would also say Everts.
Easy… Doug Domokos….supercross, off-road all on one wheel.
Nah…I’ll jus’ look at The Baja 1000…
