AP7 - Cowboy?

Hamilton County is Cincinnati and it has not been rural since the early 1900s. AP is from Hamilton, OH, which confusingly is a city not in Hamilton County- though it is nearby. Still, Hamilton (city and county both) have zero cowboys or ranching industry and hasn't for a very very long time. It is just a character, and it has nothing to do with where he is from.

I think you mean Cincinnati is in Hamilton County.  The town of Hamilton is in Butler County and has a lot of horses and tons of dairy cows.  I know, I was from there and my Dad was a horse trainer and boarded around 35 horses.

None of that matters, AP isn't saying he grew up roping cows.  Maybe he is the type of "cowboy" Bon Jovi speaks of in his song Dead or Alive.  "I'm a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride".

There are some hilarious comments in this thread.

I heard him say somewhere (maybe Gypsy Tales) that he was afraid in his younger years that people wouldn’t like his natural style, so he socal bro’d it up a bit. Now that he’s more established, he said he feels more comfortable being himself.

That being said, it sure seems like he turns the “cowboy” character to max level for the cameras. Smart marketing move because the fans love it.

Exactly. I went back and watched his old podium interviews to see when the accent started. He seemed like an awkward kid trying to fit in. Daniel blair talked about it years ago on main event moto how different plessinger is off the track than his rockstar bro interviews.

Seems to me that the whole cowboy theme on AP popped up right around just after the whole Donut thing

maybe AP realized that props and gimmicks are needed to win over the gullible and sentimental hordes.

he's an entertainer at the end of the day. If he thinks its going to increase the value of his brand/image then he has to do it.

He could be considered a cowboy in the sense that he rides a bull, both orange and red!

Dunge, not a truck engine.

Emig has short hair.

Ferry, not canine.

Matiasevich, not actually poultry

Chandler, good eyesight

Hannah, not a weather phenomenon

Huge lies.

And promulgated by media shills like Weege, who constantly attempted to brainwash fans into believing Pourcel was The "Crafty" Frenchman.

While he likely was French and presumably a man, the lie was hidden in plain sight. Ask yourself this - do you ever remember seeing him with Elmer's glue, popsicle sticks, construction paper, scissors, glue gun or glitter? Ever see his gear bedazzled?

"Crafty" my Martha Stewart-lovin' @$$.

Most people in MX in general are rural or exurban (and I guess therefore redneck, if not cowboys?) regardless of their region of the country.

Recall the general incredulousness that Weege mentioned the idea that Nick Romano could be from New York City with in the last broadcast: " I don't know how!"

I mean, one out of every twenty people in the whole country live in NY City metro area, but probably not a lot of MXers.

That's a crazy... 1 in 20??

Anyway, it works for him financially and if he's happy and he's not hurting anyone then screw it, the man can do as he pleases 👍

It is quite clearly a schtick... I'm surprised more people don't find it cheesy or are against the lack of authenticity.

He was briefly, before he went pro and realised riding was a more lucrative career path  👍

We all wear baseball hats and we a don’t all play baseball.

Seems there are a lot of cowboys in white hats singing on the beach also. 🤪

Marketing, Branding , Promotion.

That's what it all is.

It's the way things are, be it Companies, or Individuals.

I cringe a bit when he dials up that accent and yee-haw but it’s deal. If he’s doing it to make bank well, you gotta do what you gotta do. Either way I’m just loving watching him have a breakout season. He’s has some struggles and looks like he’s figured it out.

Is this thread really happening? Dudes bitching and calling a rider out over the literal meaning of a nickname?

AP is as “cowboy” as it gets. It’s not made up. He doesn’t get back to the semi and take his wig off and put his New Balance shoes and khakis on.

The guy rides hard, is true to himself, rides a steel bull every weekend and kicks ass.

You're not going to believe what I heard a while back about Dr. Dre.

We calve cows in February/March. Often I run back into the house after dragging a newborn through the snow into the barn - trying to avoid death by mother cow - just in time to watch the mains.  I realize the character was not created for me, but I want to throw my remote at the tv whenever they call him a cowboy. If I ever make it to a supercross I am going to ask him if he has ever calved a cow. If he has, great no problem. But that’s like me walking around with a red bull KTM jacket on saying I am a supercross racer….. actually maybe I should start doing that

I've pulled 100's of cows and Ima nota cowboy.

Since when do cows have anything to do with being a cowboy?

Seems like an appropriate time to drop this again. Enjoy... and try not to hurt yourself busting those dance moves. Whistling

Next thing you know, you clowns are going to try to tell me Bailey wasn't really a Professor.
