If you check out his wife’s insta they have a few horses and his oldest daughter is big into rodeo stuff with them. I believe AP has a part in that when he can but obviously racing takes up most of his time. Probably where he got it from though and also why it’s a newer thing. Just my .02
OUTSTANDABLE
Ahh I see, I deleted insta years ago. Well good for them.
I still think it’s a little exaggerated
Gotta say, though, DeCoster holds up to the nickname scrutiny.

"cowboy" isn't a nickname its a character AP came up with to make himself more marketable. I'm not hating on him, but it gets annoying after awhile when its obvious the accent is fake. He's a super nice dude though, my son has two autographed posters of him. One from STAR and one from RB KTM, both times we met him he was super nice. I'm still a fan.
He went to the Stampede in the off season so.....
He's a cowboy. Probably more cowboy than half of the ones I have met.
I don't think he ever said he was. The media just picked up on his habits. The accent started as a joke and still is.
AP's 10 gal of Redbull hat is way more authentic.
On a steel horse he rides.
Levi Kitchen isn't actually a chef, but here we are..............
Levi also does not wear an apron & chef's hat in interviews, and put on a French accent.
But here we are.
Still so much better than this nickname congruence:
Rocks don't cook anything! Rocks are very sturdy, but they are completely inanimate minerals! A chef like Levi would have a much better claim to this catchphrase.
I think I see the problem here 90% of people in this thread are in California. I live in NC and have family in Ohio and I've met more rednecks visiting Ohio than here in NC you go to any Ohio or NC off-road race and 80% of the dudes there are just like AP.
I don't think he claims to be an actual cowboy but that's certainly more marketable than wearing a wife beater and camo hat and being the Supercross Redneck, I know tons of rednecks that yell yee-haw and talk about Dale Earnhardt.
AP7, Cowboy or not it’s working he has one hell of a following from all walks of life. I’d say he made the right decision on how he wants to be perceived.
Jeez, even an old geezer like me knows that Flintsone is a vitamin...........
AP is from Hamilton, Ohio or "Hamiltucky" as we called it when I lived in Cincinnati. I used to race with his dad Scott when he would come out and do some Amateur MX at places like Dirt Country. AP even mentioned the term "Hamiltucky" on the podium once. While he didn't grow up as a "Cowboy" he grew up in a rural, mostly poor, full of rednecks area. Tons of the people in that area grow up hunting, fishing, riding horses etc.
From Urban Dictionary:
The city of Hamilton in southwestern Ohio has a reputation for its residents having a very low socio-economic status. It is also historically correct that many poor families from Kentucky migrated to Hamilton during WWII when wartime jobs were widespread in Hamilton. Thus, people in the region started refering to the "low-class" city of Hamilton has Hamiltucky and its residents as Hamiltuckians.
So you’re sayin CA doesn’t have a rich cattle and Rodeo history?
Wrong
Pit Row
Most people in MX in general are rural or exurban (and I guess therefore redneck, if not cowboys?) regardless of their region of the country.
Recall the general incredulousness that Weege mentioned the idea that Nick Romano could be from New York City with in the last broadcast: " I don't know how!"
I mean, one out of every twenty people in the whole country live in NY City metro area, but probably not a lot of MXers.
No,I said CA doesnt have a rich history in Rednecks
But he does wear Levi's
Clifford Adoptante could actually fly, but he wasnt really Hawaiian. Little known fact

the whole cowboy styck is so dumb. Super embarrassing to the sport. You don't see Tom Brady acting like a clown. Makes MX look like wwf imo. If you want the sport to be considered a true athletic sport, then start acting like it. You have Degan on the box sticking out his tongue like miley cyrus 10 years ago. Grow up and act like you've been there before. And get off my lawn!
All hat, no cattle.
Wait, wut?!?
*Ghetto cowboy
All chef's are French? I didn't know this
Hamilton County is Cincinnati and it has not been rural since the early 1900s. AP is from Hamilton, OH, which confusingly is a city not in Hamilton County- though it is nearby. Still, Hamilton (city and county both) have zero cowboys or ranching industry and hasn't for a very very long time. It is just a character, and it has nothing to do with where he is from.
