There have been a couple of these threads over the years. But I wanted to ask based on some of the newer brands, models and updated versions.
I am a size 13 wide. I currently use Alpinestar Tech 7, but over the last several months have been getting a pressure point on the outside of my foot where my baby toe meets my foot.
Want to look into alternatives. Is the toe box of the Tech 10's any wider? Narrower?
I know the Gaerne are considered the standard for width, but holy shit, the sg-22 are 1k Canadian! Even the SG-12 is 860 for a size 13 or size 14.
Wondering how the new Fox Instinct compare?
Any recommendations?
I wear a 16W , I have worn size 15 and 16 in the Tech 7 boots. And was able to make the 15 work. I tried a tech 8 with the bootie in a 15 and it was way too tight. If You try a tech 10 I would try on the next size up from what You wear in the tech 7. I have not been able to try a Tech 10 on since they do not make them big enough. But I've heard the bootie is similar to how the tech 8 was . As far as making the boot tighter. Alpinestars have been the only boots I've worn in a very long time since they are the only ones with my size. But I sell a lot of Tech 10 and tech 7 boots and customer feedback has been that the 10 fits tighter.
I would go to a shop that has all of the boots in Your size that You want to try and try them on in person. Buy a fresh pair of moto socks , or whatever sock You normally wear riding and bring them along. Or if your curent socks are in good shape and clean, bring them. Socks can make a big impact on how a boot feels too.
That's funny because I have a bit wider foot and just bought a pair of Tech 7s. Have not ridden with them yet but they felt pretty comfortable in the store. One of the things I liked about them, they are significantly shorter than the size 13 Tech 10. I always hated that about my last boots, they just felt very "big".

I don't have wide feet, but I require wide boots due to nerve damage in my right foot behind the right three toes. The only motocross boots I can wear are the Leatt GPX 5.5 Flexlock. I no longer ride motocross, but these boots have proven themselves worthy through day-long adventure rides (including two track), have stood up to plenty of water crossings, have taken several impacts on icy roads (I was smart enough to give up motocross, but not smart enough to stop riding like I'm twelve). I've found them comfortable enough to wear all day, even for walking, including short (less than one-mile round trip) hikes.
Using a boot widener, I widened the right boot a bit at the pinky toe. While they don't widen as a regular shoe or boot would, I store them with the boot widener in the right boot to hold the leather and plastic in the wider position so it stays relaxed while I wear them.
Before settling on the Leatts, I tried Fox, Alpinestars, Fly, and Forma and considered a pair of O'Neals. All ended in the same result. They were tight, extremely uncomfortable, and made my foot go numb.
I have wide feet with a bunion the size of golf ball on one foot…. Gaerne”s are the only boots I can wear, I think the older SG10”s are actually wider than the new sg12”s. I also have my boots stretched by a ski shop when they are new.

Gaernes are great. If the price is too much, the Sidi atojo are pretty “high volume” but have smaller exterior dimensions. A 12.5 should be doable for you (it’s a euro 47 which fits closer to 13 anyway. I’m a 12.5/13 Nike and went with the 11.5 because the 12.5 was really roomy). I’ve had both sg12 and atojos and tech 7s. The atojos and sg12s are roomier than equivalent tech 7s.
I used a shoe / boot widener
( wood) tgatvi added a 1/4 20 carriage bolt to right where my hammer toe area is thus widening that area for it in the boot..
Sg12s have always been best for my size 12 wide feet up until recently. Bought 12s and they were tight af. No idea what happened compared to my other ones.
I'm a 13 wide and have been very happy with my Fox Instincts in a standard 13. By far the most comfortable boot I've ever owned, and gives great feel of the bike.
Nothing beats heading to a store and trying on a few different brands though.
I love Sidi, but they are not for wide feet.
Generally, yes, but the atojo are made on a new last with a lot more space than crossfires

I have a wide foot. I have been in SG12's for several years. Great protection.... but.. I hate to say it they are heavy. Great support though.
So for kicks I got a pair of Leatt GPX 5.5 Flexlock on sale. I though they would be good for a back up when riding back to back days etc. However, after riding in them I like them better than the SG12's. They still have good protection. They don't feel like a slipper which the Tech 7's feel like to me. They are much lighter than the SG12's and boy is it noticeable when riding. I was surprise how much better I feel/ride in them. I can feel the bike better as well. Easier to put my leg out too... Now the SG12's just sit.

Interesting. I've been in SG12 for a long time now and I probably need a new pair by summer.
How would you rate build quality between SG12 and Leatt?
Do you think the Leatt offers equal protection for the ankle?
How about the stiffness of the foot-bed and sole on an overjump or hard landing?
How in the hell does your foot fit in between the peg and the damn shifter??? Size 16?!?!

I was wondering the same thing, I wear an 11.5 sidi or an 11 tech10 and sometimes get tripped up on the shifter depending on the bike. More so on the Tech 10's though. I would think with a size 16 I would have to cut the shifter and have an extension welded back in.
this is where I am feeling a pressure point. What is interesting is I have about 15 hours on these and this was not an issue when I first purchased them and was walking around the house on initial break in. In fact I have even lost some weight since purchasing them. Not to say my foot hasn't swollen a bit for whatever reason, but it's just the right side.
Because of the stiffness in that area it's hard to get anything in there to stretch that area wider. I am waiting on a replacement heat gun to arrive. I am going to try applying focused heat in that area and form fitting them. Maybe use a hard ball or something that I can get far enough into that area to help keep them.stretched a bit.
As far the Leaat 5.5's someone mentioned. I was actually looking into those as a replacement. I have heard conflicting comments on the width of those versus the tech 7's. Some say they have a wider toe box, but the rocky mountain spotlights and comparisons say the 4.5 and 5.5 have a narrower toe box then the Tech 7's. That said though, not sure this piece is actually considered part of the toe box. I don't have an issue with my toes feeling squished, just this piece where your baby toe mound is. I do not have Bunyan's or anything abnormal going on.

As others have said, the SG12's seem to be the widest. Also, Sidi Crossfire 3 TA's are really wide since the sole is stitched on.

I'm overdue for a new pair of boots. I have had a pair of SG-12s (size 11) for a few years and a newer pair of Tech 7s. Both seem to fit me well - I have a wide front part of my foot and usually buy "wide" size 11 street shoes, or a 12 regular. Looking at the new SG-22s . Can anyone comment on the fit of the SG-22s, compared to the SG-12s? (no one in my area stocks the SG-22s, so I can't do a test fit...)
I had a brand new pair of both 12's and 22's side by side. Fit exactly the same on my foot. I have wide front foot.
They really don't stack up as far as protection goes, but I've found that the AStars Tech-T Trials boots have a ton of room in them.
Maybe try Forma Predator. Still made in EU, Marco Dube distributes in Canada and they fit like an SG12. Sometimes you can find great deals on them.

Was a long time SG-12 guy, and when I got my SG-22's the comfort for my wide feet was an improvement and the break in time was non-existent.
Its a tight fit. I have trouble shifting while sitting. While standing I can move my foot enough that its not super difficult. I shift with my heal during starts. A tall seat helped. I've had big feet since I have been on a big bike. size 14 at 14,15 at 15, and thank god they stopped growing at 16. I should try extending a shifter someday though. I tried lowered pegs and hated them. My feet hit everything but the lottery.
I've heard good things about the Leatt boots too. the 5.5 . Some of the off road guys that wore Sidi or Gaerne for years have switched to the Leatt's. One of the guys got sponsored by Leatt and got a good deal on them a few years ago. I noticed he has since changed gear brands again. But he is still wearing Leatt boots. Its a group of A level off road guys . I have not idea what size 's they wear. But if You try a pair on and they fit well, I would give them a shot.
OP if one bolt is fitting different than the other you need to get it checked out by your doctor, that’s how I found out I had a blood clot
I'm a size 14 and a fairly wide foot... here's what I've worn the last 5 years: Tech 7's - SG12's - Fox Instinct's (2 pairs) to now currently trying Tech 10's.
I'll be going back to Fox Instincts after these Tech 10's wearout. The Instinct's were the most comfortable by far with room in the toe box for me. Almost scary comfortable to be honest.

Have the same problem, size 15 and high volume feet (wide with tall instep and arch) My little toe is mangled from porly fitting shoes that it more or less sits on top of my foot now (it's not pretty) Tech 7's have been decent for me......by the end of day i'm feeling it. I'm 55 so by end of day i have a long list of hurt.
Curious about longer shifters though....never tried one. Finding shops who stop large sizes is my biggest problem.
