It's also just as easy not to click on any of the threads and comment, but for whatever reason the ones that dislike Jett can't help themselves and need to see what's being posted.
I was thinking maybe knock off 50% of the fee for the VIP Lawrence Bros fan experience.... but free donuts will surely go a long way.
This is a good question. I like Jett. Without a doubt he such fun to watch ride a bike. Incredible skills. That being said a couple of ways to improve his popularity. Keep his father and agent out the picture. Back of on the Aussie stuff. No one cares where you came from. Just look at the other foriegn riders. Ever here 25 talk about France? no. Or 94 go on about the Motherland? no . It's dumb.
A lot of the Sx/Mx game is all about getting a mental edge over your competitors. RC use to do it and there’s nothing wrong with Jett showing some self confidence and trying to get under other riders skin. If that’s his game plan, backs it up by winning championships, then expect it to get worse for his competition and those that despise him. Advice to Jett’s competitors, don’t get Mad! Get Faster!

he is only unpopular with a few
He needs to put his head down come out, swinging and win everything in sight
they will always be people that don’t like someone who cares move on
Jett is a generational talent. I’m sure he will be the next MC
I’m eating breakfast right by their new stadium/home of the Superbowl this year and I see this post…
Perfection.
That sounds good.
Tomac is respected but didn’t get as much star power attention until just recently when he started breaking records and riding with Yamaha guys instead of staying private. It will all be about how Jett advertises himself or how the media portrays him. For a couple years the press was hard on Adam but now he’s back to respect with the injuries.
Jett will win so much, you won't have any choice but to respect him. Will he be popular? Who knows?
He'll be popular with his banker, that's for sure.
Pssssst.... Let me let you in on a little secret.
The popularity issue isn't with Jett.... it's the psychotic fans and 24/7 media coverage causing people to be sick of him.
When you said...
"Pssssst.... Let me let you in on a little secret."
I though you were going to say something else!
Boos have always been part of this sport. Or any sport for that matter. But in this sport particularly they are based on fan perception. Let's take a walk down memory lane?
The last person to get boo'd in a very memorable way was RC4. It all started in Las Vegas the 2001 USSX as RC4 came down on a platform with a crown and a red cape ala "The King". Someone had finally de-throned Jeremy . But it had only been one year. And even though RC upped the game for sure, he had not yet earned the heart of the fans that had LOVED MC for a very long time. So not only was this move by Honda tasteless in the eyes of the fans, it was way way too early. Remember the "too early" part here.
The second time was in Indy SX 2002 when someone by the name of Travis Pastrana took it to RC. Travis had been talking pre-season saying things like, "If I get the chance I will "de-throne RC from his bike" LoL. And in Indy that year he was battling with RC. The crowd was going nuts. Travis then went inside as RC was actually still in the air and had no time to correct, but it resulted in Pastrana going down and it appeared that RC took him out. It was at this moment that the entire stadium began booing. It was freaking loud!
FF to Anaheim 2003. In heat one TP and RC were battling hard. TP had worked his way around Tortelli and was aiming for RC. He got by RC clean, but RC was mounting a come back and after the over under RC went inside of TP and TP's fork protector hooked onto RC's foot peg resulting in TP going down. So it appeared (once again) that RC took TP out. Well, this did not sit well with the fans. Anaheim fans boo'd RC so bad you could not hear yourself think. I mean it was bad. On the podium the crowd would not let him speak. The only sentence that got through the speakers by RC was " You guys just don't understand" and that sent the booing to even another level! He was boo'd off the podium like nothing I had ever seen before. And really, it wasn't even RC's fault. As RC left the stadium under the Anaheim tunnel people were throwing trash at him. Yes it was that bad.
Only a few years later RC was THE MOST loved rider in the sport. Because his accomplishments over time had earned him that. Not a cocky entrance to the USSX.
RC had really nothing to do with any of this. It was really TP's fault at Indy 02, and in Anaheim 03 it was just an accident as RC was passing clean but the fork protector hooking to RC's peg and pulled TP off and down to the ground. So the perception was bad.
So lets talk about JL18. Yes, he is incredibly talented. So talented that it could make this sport very boring the next few years. But the reason he suffered boos was due to the perception of the fans. The fans perceived that he was cocky and entitled. Had he earned rockstar status by going perfect in the outdoors? Sure he has. But not enough yet to show the fans that I have my own fan appreciation center, and new car, donuts, pink towelettes, more tv air time that any other rider, and the final nail disrespect for JA21.
JL18 needs to just do what he does best. Race and win and over time he will earn the heart of the fans. But right now it is too early.
personally I think Jett is a perfect mixture of cocky and humble. Rick Johnson was the same way, as I've alluded to before. fighter pilots tend to be be cocky. Jett has the look and the speed. I see no wrong in anything he's said or done. he's actually a pretty cool ambassador and his popularity will only grow.
Being confident to the point of cockiness is in the DNA of most Champions
He could start by getting rid of that lame ass cheesy wannabe boxing intro thing he does during opening ceremonies.
By winning and being undeniable.
Exactly. Concentrate of winning and let all the other nonsense fall by the wayside
Agreed. I personally would replace cocky with confident. I don’t feel he come across cocky, just super confident. I feel like cocky has a negative connotation, like he thinks he’s the shit, and knows he’s the shit.
He knows his skill, and knows he’s good. But still pretty down to earth. His Agent on the other hand.
Pit Row
Ricky Johnson wasn't cocky or confident, he was egotistical...

Jett never became unpopular, he got booed because people did not like how he acted after the race before.
all jett has to do is walk up to ANDO , shake his hand and apologise for overreacting................... perhaps share a beer after the next round?
Hell no. I'd rather Jett be an obnoxious cocky prat than be like RV. Even when RV was winning he looked like he didn't want to be there, come to think of it he probably didn't.
By not paying attention to it.
Im only saying Jett needs to act like RV2 and win this season. Purely because of the drama and attention he has gotten. If he can do that.. I feel like he can be and act how ever he wants.
But seriously, It If he ends up winning this years SX title. it could very well make the next 10 years boring for the people who don't want to see him win.
He is literally the most popular person in the sport. Like him/hate him/neutral there are constant threads started about him. He never lost popularity. Now some people who liked him switched to hating him, but that wasn’t what was asked.
Imagine if he did this 😳
Honestly it’s a shame because I was a huge fan early on, I loved that he showed personality, there was a pulp podcast during covid and they were hilarious, stealing things from Steve’s mini bar fridge.
Now I hate how he gets shoved down our throats, I don’t wanna hear him 1000 times during the broadcast or watch him at his truck during the 250 main..
Then the thing I liked most, the personality has been taken away by an overprotective agent that won’t let them do interviews or only allow specific questions that have a “yeah no” answer.
I feel had we not been smothered by all this Jett talk, he did interviews and spoke his mind, people (myself included) would feel very differently.
It's funny that you say that because I've always seen some RJ in him. His build his posture on the bike especially now on the 450. Jett just needs to tune out all the bs and let his riding do the talking.
McGrath gave a lot of credit to his agent to give him opportunities like the 1-800-Collect commercial. Seems like Jett’s agent is more of a body guard to keep his jersey clean from the tweens or stalkers. Lots of people on the payroll so you best win mate.
Winning cures everything
