Thanks, I’ll take pictures Saturday but when I click on the app the first screen that comes up has no option for the current live SX event. Yes I can find it, that’s not a problem. Yes if I go to sports and then scroll down after seeing multiple other sports I see SX. I’m just mentioning that a person just clicking on the app isn’t going to find SX unless they are looking for it. Sorry mentioning that offended some people 🤷♂️
That's the point of this thread, what does the ROI look like for supermotocross in views and subscribers vs other sports. They made a big move with that NFL playoff game but most of their other sports content is soccer or college sports, golf, road cycling, and Olympics, not the big 4 pro ball sports.
On of the points of steaming is to get good analytics on what people are watching, I'm sure they can see how often an account watches a race and how much they watch other stuff and how long they subscribe. I hope moto is a good ROI for what is probably a relatively meager sum compared to other sports.
Duh.
That's 'cause he's watching them on the PeaCock app.
But who are we to judge?
They’ll be here all night, folks. Please, tip your waitress graciously.

Off-topic but reading this made me flashback to growing up and watching super/motocross on SPEED with the Toyota Tundra commercials. "Toyota Tundra, the truck that's changing it all."
Show me ONE metric that has shown the NFL is in decline in any way possible? The NFL averages fucking 18 million viewers PER GAME. Viewership is actually UP in the last 5 years and nearing the peak 9 years ago. Also these numbers don't account for all the people who cancelled cable around that time and started sharing streaming accounts (accounts for some decline).
Its always jarring when something about main stream sports gets brought up on vital bc you see how out of touch some you fucking kooks are. I mean seriously you just compared the fucking NFL to Nascar JFC.
Also not shocking that the most notorious fucking nut job (Not the account I am responding to here) that posts nothing but brain dead, clearly politically (using political generously) motivated responses on this forum chimes in to comment on this one. Could've called that one.
Look up Bread and Circuses.
As for Peacock. I've never had any technical issues with the service. It's been solid. That said, I would not have Peacock if not for SX/MX because their content blows ass. Nothing but sewage content and sickening commercials.
Because I have added it to my stuff it usually is the lead promo when I go to the general sports tab. This is using the Apple TV interface, which has been flawless for us whether using Peacock for moto or other content. It's been very easy to find on this platform.
I do agree that the interface to go though live and replay events takes some getting used to, but I tend to plow through things until I get it and then all the other stuff is just white noise.
Gambling is supercharging the NFL, and it finally has gotten more traction world wide.
Peacock paid $110mm to have exclusive rights to one game.
ESPN paid less than tfor rights to all F1 races in a year.
I do agree on the gambling bit. But F1 is still miniscule compared to NFL. 1M viewers per race vs 18M. There are also a ton more NFL games than races.
Just illustrating that even the pinnacle of motorsports (economically) is a pimple on gnats ass compared to conventional professional sports. Cornhole is more marketable in the short run.
The Chiefs-Dolphins game on Peacock was the most-streamed live event in US history
https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2024/01/15/media/peacock-nfl-ratings-chiefs-dol…
“The “Peacock Exclusive Wild Card” game garnered 23 million total viewers, according to Nielsen. NBC said in a release that the game sets records for the “most-streamed live event in US history” and was also responsible for the most internet usage ever in the US on a single date, consuming 30% of internet traffic during the Saturday night game.”
Imagine the ad revenue that it must have brought in to justify that level of expense by NBC…for ONE game.
I don't think they had much ad revenue. Almost every commercial break would air the same set of commercials. And about a third of those were just ads for their own programming.
For Peacock, I think this was more about buying viewership. Peacock "forced" fans to buy a Peacock subscription, hoping to get them to watch the other shows Peacock has to offer. Also I think Peacock is trying to gain a major foothold in sports broadcasting. I'm sure Peacock will have more NFL games next year, possibly even exclusives. They already have English Premier League football. They will probably have Olympics this summer. Obviously they have supercross, etc.
I'm sure they lost their ass on that playoff game by itself.
You can already watch the NBC NFL games in your area on Peacock and all of the Sunday night primetime games were on peacock all year as well. Very convenient for me who watches football too but only have streaming and HD digital antennae, I can watch all the games except espn games for $6 a month.
And that was 17 million less viewers than the Cowboys/Packers game. 40 million witnessed the Cowboys shit the bed.
A wild stat I read somewhere, the NFL had 93 of the top 100 most-watched broadcasts of 2023. It is a ratings behemoth.
well, i said "seems", so no need to get too worked up.
That said, viewership has not grown in line with the population. 44% of mericans say they're "fans" compared to 56% 20 years ago. They've gained viewers, but lost marketshare. Moreover, NFL athletes don't all have the best reputation with money management....or choice of extracirricular activities. Add in the rampant PED use and occasionally odd calls, and I think some folks have trouble suspending disbelief over time. Same with Nascar in many ways; hence the comparison.

Rose colored glasses can be a funny thing. When I was young moto was on espn2 which was a premium channel that required an add-on in addition to the basic cable subscription. I'll take live streaming of every race on peacock you can pause, reverse, and replay over the hodgepodge it was back in the day.
Here's a press release from 2005
The team will cover all 17 Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series races in 2005-2006 that will air on SPEED Channel and CBS Sports. The AMA Supercross races that air on SPEED Channel and CBS Sports will receive next-day original airings. The AMA Supercross Lites races will be shown later in the same week. The combined resources of Clear Channel Entertainment ? Motor Sports, SPEED Channel and CBS Sports have assembled the most successful television package the sport has ever seen.
Pit Row
Maybe Taylor Swift is bringing in more viewers for NFL
I can’t think of anything else that I watch on Peacock either, but I am certainly thankful we have access to the live feeds verses the three month late coverage we would get from ESPN back in the day.
Having to watch commercials during a replay is pretty lame. I’ll probably cancel just due to that. You have to watch the replay even after you pay? Nah son
On a dollar per hour per subscriber basis supermotocross could be one of peacocks best investments
https://www.cnbc.com/2024/01/25/comcast-cmcsa-earnings-q4-2023.html
How on earth are they losing 825 million per quarter? Wtf are they doing over there? Partying like AIG in 2008?
By dumping cash making spotty original streaming content to try and not be killed by Netflix and Amazon. I expect they are sucking hind teat behind Disney at least.
Streaming is sort of in the stage where e-commerce was in the 90s and Amazon was losing money while it killed off its competition.
I expect it and the others are weighing whether paying talent for original content or paying leagues for rights that make people go to the service are the cash dump with a bigger return.
"On a dollar per hour per subscriber basis supermotocross could be one of peacocks best investments"
How are you getting that assessment?
I made it up.
We don't know how much they paid for the rights to smx, let's say it's $25 million for over 180 hours of original content, which is really low.
I'm a subscriber because smx is on peacock like alot of other people, they can look at my account and see I watch every race sometimes multiple times, and the occasional movie. I wouldn't be subscribing if it weren't for smx.
Supposedly they are paying around $5B/year to produce and acquire content to put on their service. I watch a little bit on Peaock, but not a ton. I'd love to find a better breakdown as to where that money is going, because they don't seem to have a ton of properties.
They do have a lot of sports, and maybe that just adds up.

"On top of the loss, Northrop Grumman doesn't expect to make a profit on the first five lots of B-21s, but if the program matures, it will be a massive revenue source for the company."
"But if" is always a part of the equation. And never certain, even with max commitment.
50 million for the Bills and Chiefs.
Yeah I posted this in another thread a couple weeks back. NFL is still on top and not going anywhere, no matter what some guy on a MX forum says
