Damon Huffman beat him easily in atl then blew his knee out practicing for out doors. Damon ran him down out of nowhere in Seattle. Then his clutch fried. The next week every bike had a quick adjustable lever. 97 kawi put pressure on Damon to use the new frame etc Emig did not. The 97 kx was garbage. Michael Craig beat MC also on his short stay at Yamaha b4 he was canned. MC also won motos on a 125 in a stacked field.
Last year or the year before I remember saying on here that there would never be another perfect season and nobody would ever touch 72. I've been proven wrong on one since so it'd be dumb to say it's impossible, and it makes sense on paper.
But like others just said, life happens, shit changes in a hurry when you least expect it. Let's talk more about 72 after he passes Tomac (or even cracks the top 10 on the win list).

I have thought a lot about some motorsports legends, and their records being possibly beat. You can never argue with raw talent, but I think one thing that makes breaking records nowadays a more significant challenge, and that is the efforts sanctioning bodies have put / learned / developed towards leveling out the fields that was not nearly as tight in the past. All forms of motorsports, be it, NASCAR, SX, Indy, whatever, used to be a lot looser, or they were not nearly aware of some of the performance advantages some had, even just think about Honda in the 80s for example. The amount of knowledge that has been gained and rules put in place to level the playing field has just gotten nothing but tighter over the years to make sure nobody has an advantage and the only thing to get you on the top box, is talent and training.
My point, some records may never be broken, and it is not necessarily because the riders today or in the future are not on the same level, but just that advantages folks may have had in the past, are no longer an option.

You kinda missed the point, that I have no idea how you viewed that as 'corporate'. And we are probably the same age, we saw the same things with MC blossoming from a variety of sources in his early professional career (cool picture of Ward BTW!!). My point was not totally about MC, it was a blanket statement, motorsports athletes nowadays do not have the same advantages they used to, some records may never be broken, nothing more.
I personally would love to see MCs record never get broken, he earned it. He made a few years of watching SX boring, but that was beyond an accomplishment.

They don't race there anymore because the owners didn't like the dirt getting everywhere inside their brand new stadium. Literally had nothing to do with crime or whatever nonsense you just made up

Well that's what motocross media sources usually tell when times are moved up in knowingly high-crime areas when they try to have a dirt bike race..
A simple google search will show the amount of shootings that happened around the stadium just this year. I found 5 different instances in 2023, just on the first page of the searches. And all I looked up was "crime near Mercedes Benz Stadium Atlanta, GA"

I believe Atlanta is having 1 of the smx rounds if that makes up for missing a proper sx.
