I think it was the chain tightening due to mud, and not letting the rear wheel turn. Chain looked guitar-string tight from the one shot I saw. I seriously doubt he was able to smoke the clutch that quickly. Tomac is known to use the clutch like a torque converter, and even with 450 power, has only smoked his clutch to the point of failure one or two times that I can recall.

I will say that I believe the Honda is a step backward for Jo. I think the green and blue teams have HRC beat in 250 performance.

For mud races they all need to revert back to a good ol clutch cable. That way you at least have a little control over your destiny.

Gotta question since you've been there. The idea is that in those conditions, the constant slipping of the clutch under heavy load gets things hot and cooks the clutch, correct? Why not run, and I'm sure they've tried, really heavy clutch springs? Not only as a deterrent or reminder at the finger level, but to also keep the clutch more fully engaged?

Pretty wild to see the bike shit the bed 4 corners into the first lap. That absolutely ruined any shot he had at a championship, hes outside the top 10 in points already. Id definitely like to know what could possibly break that fast on the bike. Did they send him out there with an old clutch?

Almost no way it could have been a clutch that early unless it was installed incorrectly to begin with.  I suppose that is possible.

Normally I would agree with this.

That said, since they had to completely wash the bikes before heading back to the pits, then head back to the pits which were pretty far away, did the team have enough time to replace the clutch?

I know it would crazy not to replace it, but maybe they didn't think they had enough time, so they gambled on it and didn't replace it? Am I completely crazy to think this might have happened?

Was going to blame the filter design they have on those factory bikes but then realized the Yamaha has something similar stock.

Sometimes things just break.

I’m pretty sure the CRF250 is the weakest, or one of the weakest motors out of the box and HRC is stretching it out as much as possible to contend with the YZs. After watching Hunter’s blow up in the sand last outdoor season and Shimoda last night, it’s surprising if they’re not dialing it back for conditions like this.

Impressive to burn out a new clutch in 3 corners.

I think Vohlands died because he was abusing the clutch. Shimoda is known to not be that hard on it

Vohland’s was quick but still not like 30 seconds quick.

When he fell his clutch lever hit the ground first. I'd be surprised if mud broke a lever but I guess it's possible.

I also thought the chain looked tight. But so tight the bike wouldn’t move? I don’t know.

Traction control/launch issue or the lost likely, mud packed around countershaft sprocket and chain

The 250R IS a clutch cable. Only the 450R has a hydraulic.

Don't forget Jett also lost a bike at Southwick
