To be fair, I would love to hear what MC says about it. Nobody that witnessed the MC era expected to see anyone beat it in our lifetime, 30 years later, here we are, maybe.

the real question, can he become the official GOAT. King of Supercross and Motocross?

What I don't get is ama old timers thinking 72is untouchable.

1. It doesn't make the person who passes it better.

2.Look at every other sport. They race more and more. And their careers are longer. It means now days athletes get the most wins easier. Look at f1, or even basketball Look at LeBron vs Jordan.

3. Look at tomac. He has 2 titles and 5 or6 wins per year. We only need a rider slightly better. Some1 to win 7-8 racers per season and race close to 10 years and they will get it. Guys like villo or dunge would have got it if they raced another 4 or so years.

Everything is beatable.

While 72 wins its a big number, it's doable.

Jett is 20 years old, if he races until 30 he needs 7.2 race wins per year to tie with The King.

But, injuries happen, bikes can break and sometimes riders have an off night like his brother tonight. Add in to that Webb and Sexton are on new bikes and i believe will get faster as the season progresses and Tomac will race his way back to speed and then Jett won't have it so easy.

Jett seems to have the ability to ride a hard as he needs to and rides beyond his age in terms of maturity. If anyone since the King could rack up that many wins I think it's Jett but it won't be easy

It’s a massive task with a much stronger field of competition than ever before. But he is looking as good as anyone can ask for at the earliest stage of his career…

That is 1 win.  Not even in consideration yet.

There is some clips out there where MC talks about it.
A little coocky but we all know how much ”showtime” loved the spotlight and being the king. I don’t see Mcgrath like a person that want his record to be broken.

What Jett has shown the world so far is that he could be the one to do it, what i don’t know if he is the kind of rider that will be in it long enough to do it.

Give it a couple of years and he might get the Verstappen mentality, ”it’s fun to race but there is other things to do in life” kind of thing.

and he is all ready set for life, he don’t need to work another day if he not want to.

If he stays relatively healthy, he will beat it or at least get very close.

He was so pissy on that pod just a week before this about Jett's goal. Should take it as a compliment

You say add in the fact that webb and sexton are on new bikes and will get better. Etc etc etc. Then jett won't have it easy.

Remember what weege said repeatedly last mx season.

Jett is a sx rookie he has 1 sx race and 3 months riding a 450 in sx. He will learn the bike and be better in the coming races also. Potentially he could have more to learn and get out of himself and the bike then sexton or webb have.

Only way to find out is to watch it unfold.

I’m not saying he can’t do it, but we’ve seen some of the greatest riders the sport has ever seen come and go without getting within 20 wins of MC’s record. Can we at least wait until he’s half way there? Which is likely 2 or 3 seasons away at best

I really wish Jett wouldn't have even brought up that win total shit. That and how he talked about letting Roczen by really make him seem disrespectful and arrogant. More so then he actually is, I hope. Even though the seasons are much longer now, I really do not think it is doable. It takes lightning in a bottle to reel off a lot of wins, there are so many riders who showed early promise who never matched their early promise. Injuries, breakdowns, team dynamics, chicks, life in general a lot of things can slow a young riders progress. A lot of shit can happen to a person between 20 and 30 years old.

The seasons aren’t significantly longer now - 15/16 races per season has been the norm since at least MC’s first championship in ‘93.  One more race per season is not a big difference.

Jett is in a better position to challenge MC’s and RC’s records than anyone for a long time.  Not only is he arguably the best rider but the majority of his current rivals are close to or over 30, and there’s not many obvious challengers moving up from the 250 class in the next few years.

At this pace he will break the record at the 5th race in his 5th season . Stamp it .

I don't think MC is worried at this point.  He knows in 5+ years/seasons of racing a lot can happen trying to chase his record.

Deegan is moving up in a few years, I think he may have a few wins in him.  Cooper straight up beat Jett in the heat.  I think Cooper may have caught him if he could have gotten around JA21.

I am not saying he can't do it but I don't think it will happen as fast or as easy as some seem too.  I think there are more guys capable of winning now than when McGrath was dominating.  Long road to GOAT....

Worried (If showtime is at all) is when Jett is on 60 wins after the next 4 or 5 years.

Though Jett just became the first rookie to win an opener is a strong sign of possibility, worried seems a little extreme.

Bro he has 1… ONE win..

chill, even winning 10 rounds a year for the next 7 years is a ridiculous ask..

Impossible..

is Jett amazing? Absofreakinloutely..

will he win 12/16 races for the next 5 years in a row, or 15/16 races in 4 years?

that’s extremely unlikely!!

All this talk of 7.2 wins for 10 seasons and no one is mentioning the absolute mental burden that will be. Talent wise Jett could 100% snag this record, but can he handle being in the spotlight for the next decade? Many greats before him have retired long before their talent ran out.

Naw .. while it's true that Jett is an artist on a motorbike, he's competing in a different era of technique & support.

It took years for the rest of the field to figure out how McGrath was doing what he was doing, all the while he racked up the wins & championships.      Thats not the case in these times where video tape & rider coaching is at an elevated level, look how much better Chase looked in the 2nd practice after reviewing where he was lacking on the track.

Jet will do well, is a pleasure to watch & will likely win multiple championships, but 7-8 wins per season over ten years is a big, big ask.

714 was untouchable until Aaron hit it. 755 was untouchable until Bonds hit it.

What I'm saying is if someone does a ton of steroids for years they can maybe beat McGrath's record.

MC shares the stoke. He doesn’t piss on it. This OP don’t know MC; hence, his title is “upside down”.

Jeremy sees a guy like Jett doing his thing and smiling and sharing the stoke and guess what Jeremy does…? He just smiles.
