Has it ever come out what kawi “found” that made them instantly go from mid pack to holeshotting every race and shimoda winning out the last few rounds? What could add so much horsepower? Were they already using the electric waterpump? I know using it can add 1-2hp and allow you to run higher compression. I figured they were already using it though. What could possibly cause such a massive turn around from one week to the next. Someone has to have heard something.
They started running shell rotella.
Mitch backed this out a few turns:
Carbon fiber power band. Shhhhh
He made an adapter to fit the blue powerband.

They started using what they found in Davies Locker
I've been wondering too... and read or heard nothing.
Thought this was going to be about the new KX450, and what they found to add 5 lbs. from the previous model.
At a guess I'd say ECU related
I'm betting Mitch had a come to Jesus moment with a good chunk of the staff, riders included. Not doubting their ability to find some power, but he's spent a damn solid chunk for zilch results as of late, and that shit tends to get old. He has built a legacy over the years, and lately it's beginning to tarnish results wise...... He's started cleaning house already, and I'm betting it won't quit for another year or 2. Lots of big checks paid out, with no return...... Crash footage, and injury reports DO NOT pay the bills. Mitch wants more plates on the trailer door.....
Maybe it was the riders and had nothing to do with the bikes?
They got new throttle tubes that go to 11.
It all started to change when they hired the motor guy from Honda
It’s because he finally let his riders run Fatbars instead of Twinwalls.
2nd injector?
Gotta admire Mitch's resolve over the past few years...
How many more chances does Forkner get? Is this it? To be transparent, I WANT to see Austin do well in 2024. I've become a fan as of late.
He stated in an interview that they “found something” around one of the later rounds and it made a huge difference in power. The interviewer asked if its something that would transfer to mx and he said yes.
I was told by a rider it was a combination of things. Chassis, mapping, and something in the motor that he didn’t know. He did say the biggest improvement was how they got the chassis to work.
Pit Row
Went up 1 tooth on the rear
Flux capacitor
He found Ryan Cox, that’s what he found lol..
Sluuurrrpppp sluuurrrrppppp
The KX250 and RMZ-250 are the only 250f with a 2nd injector in the production bike.
Max told me they just turned down the "suck!
Helium! ***and more psi in the frame valve!
The assumption is that they unlocked some hidden power from the engine. I would say it's more likely that they've made improvements within the ECU & the starting maps that simply allow the chassis to put the already available power to the ground in a more strategic manner. Perhaps the fella that they brought on from Honda is providing more oversight than just engine building....such as sharing details on how Honda is so successful with their ECU & software strategies.
At that level a software upgrade from what they already are running is not going to get you in the neighborhood of 5HP. The only way to do that is move more air. Most of the gains appear to be on top exemplified by their starting prowess.
We are thinking differently. I'm not speaking of a software engine "tune" to find hidden power. What I am speaking of is the architecture of the software used to control the ECU. To be more specific, if they're modifying the control scheme for starting maps and have found improved logic that results in greater translation of power to forward drive, then the bike is going to demonstrate quicker acceleration & higher top end speed down the start straight.
Mitch told an interviewer (can't remember who) that the change was visible on the bike. I've been wondering about it ever since.
I remember in a video he said something along the lines of you can see it, but have to know what to look for.
So in that case was it the electric water pump? The recent pics of the kx250s posted on social media showed close up shots of the electric water pump, almost as if to say look at the new bling on the new bike. I had figured they were already installed but that pic piqued my curiosity. Honda first did it on jetts 250f, so maybe getting the honda guy over to pc allowed them to unlock its full potential. There is software involved in making it work the best. This article talks about how at first teams just ran them wide open but now they can map them specifically to what the bike is doing.
