So I was listening to the PulpMX ride day evening podcast the other day.
Found it interesting the they were talking favorite National tracks as they were at Millville, Ryan Villopoto
said "Glen Helen" was his favorite National track.
Sadly we are now stuck with Pala and before that Elsinore hosting a So Cal National. I always find it strange when some in here say none of the Pro's like Glen Helen and you guy profess to know everything correct? ![]()

Track Talk starts at 59:30
Makes sense, RV was always good at Glen Helen. Obviously it was early and we can always play the if game but I think he would have won the 2009 season if he didn’t get hurt.
RV was lethal at Glen Helen. I watched him absolutely destroy his competition on multiple occasions.
It really is a cryin' shame that Glen Helen isn't a part of the Nats. It's the last place that even resembles Carlsbad....which was where us old guys consider American moto got its legs.
GH is in a really good spot for moto. Actually better dirt than Carlsbad or Saddleback and just a great outdoor vibe. (That good dirt takes a LOT of work and water). What I dig is how godawfull rough it gets in that old-school way. It's not that deep tilled loamy rough like most other tracks...it's just different. There is some cool history stuff there as well.
Edit...I have to add this...the gang that rides/races there on the regular are real and good people.
I was wracking my brain trying to remember who it was that used to own Mount St.Helens. I mean styled the fuck out of it. Gotdamn Josh Grant...
.
You guys remember... right?

I've heard him say that before. But, he always says "National prepped Glen Helen "..
Goes without sayin'.
I can tell it is the off season.
The first of the many "Glen Helen should have a national" threads.
Besides 05, was RV undefeated at GH?
I believe Stroup beat him.in 2008 there
Are you trying to say something?
Like this? Mt St. Helen in the background.....REM side here.
That has been my computer background for years, Windham has a awesome pic on that jump also.
Lostboy819, I have your avatar pic....the original poster, signed by Hannah and Tripes.
Windham is the first that came to my mind
That grant pic is definitely one of my favorite Mx pics ever. I was always a fan of that dudes style. Especially there.
That is what I heard too. He repeated that several times. "Nationallly prepped Glen Helen"
I'll never forget Jessy Nelson's last ride there at the national. It was poetry in motion. He was ripping.
......justifiably so.
Pit Row
Worked the national many years in the Holeshot club. Got to watch Josh grant do the testing for the huge step up in the upper part of the track above rem. Still the biggest jump I’ve ever seen in person. But man Josh flying over the hill on the REM track was AWASOME!
Jessy Nelson - that is a name I haven't heard in a while.
I remember 2007 or 8 when RV was hucking that huge quad step up after yamaha hill and out of the valley that half the 450 class wasn’t even thinking about doing. He was basically wringing that Kx250 for all it had and kissing the front fender laroccos leap style. Only the jump was definitely bigger
Windham bar drag at GH.
And none of them are wrong. Glen Helen is as or more national quality than anything else on the circuit. Fox, Pala, Elsinore, etc are warmed-over Chicken Licks Raceway.
K-DUB had a similar pic too, it was so sick...
What year was it when GH had some giant doubles on a flat part of the track? I may be completely mis-remembering things, but I thought that was part of the layout for a race or two.
Bad ass! Also seeing and knowing how they can route the track up and down so many different hills makes Pala even more laughable as a National track.
‘97 had a huge double in the flat transition from the main track to the REM track. That thing was massive. Not sure how many years it was used 🤷♂️
