I missed the ET interview but it sounds like he has just been cleared to ride a bike? I work with a couple ex professional athletes (NFL) and they are saying no way he will be ready by A1 with that injury. It's a year recovery and he did it in May? Just curious if anyone knows how its going, if they are way off with their opinion etc.

I assumed he would come in fresh, fit and hungry.....obviously a bit race rusty but that's to be expected-

Sorry if it's been discussed elsewhere-

I think Vince Friese came back from it in less than a year. Maybe they’re looking at it from a perspective of an athlete that has to explosively push off of it?

When I spoke to Eli the Sunday after Washougal (Alpinestars event), he said that he was weeks ahead of where they thought he would be and he also said that honestly, the injury hadn't been as big of a deal as most people said it would be. He was very genuine when he said he was surprised at how much easier the recovery was compared to the horror stories he had been told.

I snaped mine and it took a long while to heal. When I spoke to the Doc about it he said "each persons recovers on these differently. I've had folks have zero problems and bounce right back. Others it takes longer".

I was 51 when I happened. I've always had "tight" legs...So it remained very tight for a long time. Like 2 years.

Certainly Eli could be one of the ones that bounces back really quickly.

Hey, not to derail Tomac talk but where is Friese and when will he race again?  Love him or hate him he makes the racing more entertaining.

I thought he raced the last wsx in England, but could be wrong.

When did your ex-NFL player coworkers play in the league? If they played in the '80s or '90s, then their comments make sense. But for an achilles rupture to 100% be a full year + recovery, considering modern medicine and rehab, sounds a bit untrue.

I think Rodbell tore his Achilles in November and was back at racing nationals at Washougal. So back to racing in like 7-8 months. Friese I think a similar timeline, maybe a month quicker? So going off the two most recent Achilles injuries in MX, I’d say A1 seems reasonable. About 8 months from injury to return to racing.

If you've ever been to the Cortez CO area...you know how he can heal so fast.  It's magical.

I'm pretty sure a guy like Tomac, and a team like Star have the financial wherewithal to use the latest technology in the world...wherever in the world it is, to drastically accelerate the healing process. I doubt Eli would take any chance of coming back too soon, and risk being injured more seriously. He's far from stupid.

NFL players aren't exactly known for rushing back onto the field. Most stick and ball sports players will take a long break for any sort of injury.

Moto aint as kind to guys being out.

They are simply different sports, and some of the ways that you can compensate in one sport you simply cannot do in another. Over 1/3 of NFL players are never able to return again after an Achilles tear.

I think that road racers are fantastic athletes in their own right, but Mick Doohan was still able to compete with a fused ankle. That wouldn’t have been possible in the NFL. They are just different.

It actually takes some pretty serious injury for most athletes to go on an injured list, even though it may not seem like it. The biggest difference between moto and the stick and ball sports is that moto is an individual sport, even though there may be a ‘replacement’ rider, the injured rider doesn’t score any points while they are out. In a team sport, one person’s absence doesn’t wipe out everything.

He will use a stiff tape job, shove that thing in an unmodified tech 10, and be good to go. In moto, you can really protect that ligament, it’s not like basketball or football,

Kobe Bryant was back playing in the NBA in about 8 months. SX doesn't require the quick start and stop that stick and ball sports require.

There were a few threads on this topic back when ET3 first went down with this injury.

Aaron Rodgers tore his in week one a few weeks back and he says he'll be back for the playoffs. That and the fact that he got off the cart and walked into the locker room tells me he maybe didn't tear it all the way. Do we know if ET did?

He might be ready for the playoffs but the Jets won't be there...

Football players are probably 40 to 150 lbs. heavier than ET. I mean I can see a 300 lb. lineman needing a year to recover, he's got to move a lot more bulk and they move laterally compared to racers.

No doubt he looks eager to get back. Hopefully he doesn’t rush it.
