I understand that many Americans don’t like Diffey, but what most don’t understand is that he comes from a dirt bike family background and is more core than you can appreciate.

For me, I’ve grown up with knowing him and his family around local tracks, than as the voice at races, then on Aussie SX on tv, then V8 Supercars and many other motorsports before he went international.

I think he sounds more professional than others and that Stew and RC are better in his presence, but of course I’m biased.

I personally don't like his voice but he does a far better job than Weege, Weege in my opinion should not be the lead announcer, half his problem is he gives RC/JS far too much respect and he lacks common sense and feel of the sport. that's not to take anything away from the guy as a person, he works hard, delivers good content.

Ricky was definitely the week link tonight.

Leigh isn't my favourite, but he also isn't my least either. The SMX broadcast is a bit of a shamozzle. So many people involved... 3 in the booth, 3(I think) on the ground and then other people in between the races. I know they want to make it a big show, but it doesn't mesh very well. Way, way too much happening for the viewer.

RC and JS I don't think compliment each other at all too. RC has improved since he toned down a bit, and JS got better when he started to have a point to whatever he was saying. However together it is just them making gags... limited technical analysis.

I also am not a huge fan of them changing the commentary team so much too. I kinda prefer some consistency

Diffey and Weege would be the perfect season pairing. Too many voices in the booth turns it into a mess, less is best, save the broadcast for the professionals and leave the past champs for the spots between the races..

This is spot on!!  I also thinks it's funny as heck when you said James got better when he started to have a point to what he was saying. LMFAO!!!!!

I don’t understand the constant complaining about any of the commentary team I have never once thought a bad thing about any of them whether it be from David Bailey and Art Eckman to Ralph and Jeff to our latest crew things like accents or assumed relevance to our sport I just enjoy the racing and someone bringing excitement and narrating what we are seeing on the screen. I understand what the OP was complaining about for he feels slighted because Weigant was demoted for this round but this was probably decided months ago and Jason is a professional he isn’t holding grudges. There have been times over the years that audio has dropped from broadcasting and the racing has been less because of it. I enjoy what we have at the moment and today we were spoiled for choice with the race day live crew with RV we had the Dunge at one point and also Stanton we still had Weigant we had Diff, Stew & RC and we had JT handing Phil his LCQ Number 1 plate and all the other commentators I am forgetting. As a Moto fan I am happy, I even saw a Tweet from Steve Matthews today telling everyone the racing today wasn’t that good why even post that FFS slow news week? Honestly what is all the complaining about what exactly is the agenda? #OFFSEASONSUCKS

Matthews post! Granted I wasn’t at any of the rounds but the first 250 race at LA I was on the edge of my seat and the 2 x 450 races were exciting, with the point structure I think Roczen was the man of the series because he kept us guessing right up until the finish line both races!

We can dream. I really hope he accomplishes everything he's set out to away from broadcasting but I also hope we get him back one day. He was the best by some margin.

Always has been. His bloviating while saying next to nothing really makes it hard to build genuine excitement.

While we’re bitching about commentators…. Everyone keeps saying we want to grow and legitimize the sport. This was touted at the most prestigious round of the year and the in-house announcers are named Lurch and Megawatt. Neither of which could seem to do basic math. The in house broadcast was more like a monster truck rally than a professional race. 

"THIS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, UNIQUE CONCEPT! RACING FOR BIG MONEY!!!"

After the first 250 moto I went to sleep... 

I’ve come to the conclusion that the announcers aren’t the problem. It’s the fabricated story lines and drama the production crew feeds them. 
 

Honestly, the track wasn't delivering very good racing either.    

The only part that was delivering any good racing was the sand section into the bowl turn.

I hear he sucks at spelling as well.

I like his announcing a ton. I've been exposed to his work in other forms of motorsport a bunch and I think he is great! He does his homework and is super polished in his delivery imho. I loved the combo of him RC and James last night.

I don’t mind the guy in the booth, but if I heard him say “Kickstart Kenny” one more Effing time I was gonna lose it! 😂

I have the feeling I heard how great the "SMX world championship with riders from all over the world" is approximately 238 times in 4 hours. I guess that was my "learning lesson".

How many different people did they have doing commentary, 9 or 10 at least??  I have nothing against Diffey, however it does seem as if he concentrates on just a few of the riders, and does not offer much input beyond that.  Weege on the other hand lives this sport and seems to know everything that is going on with everyone in the sport.

This is definitely true. For example, Rutledge got a lot of hate (justifiably of course considering how he handled the situation publicly), but it was really Feld’s fault for putting him in that position. He did the job they asked him to do. 
 

They are tone deaf to what the (vast) majority of fans want out of the broadcast. Their intention may be to grow the sport, which in my eyes is a pure intention, but we will always see through the phony narratives and Will Christen segments. It just is what it is.

I think he's quite good and elevates the sport personally. If you want a mainstream guy, Leigh is a good choice imo.

Weege is the best ever though. He's basically flawless and should be in the booth. 

Not a fan of Leigh, but better than Todd. Ralph will always be the best, miss his "isms"... really should have Jeffro back.
