"I pulled over because that was the best way to ensure I'd win the event. Had Roczen made me crash due to a pass attempt, Sexton may have caught and passed me."

Done and done.

You are right…but once again the AMA is inconsistent and selective on rule enforcement and punishment.  They are their own worst enemy when everyone looses respect for them as a governing body.  Jeremy has helped some but you can’t completely fix what is political.  Set the rule and the penalty.  Enforce it.  Have a 1 warning policy or a no warning policy.  And it is the same for EVERYBODY.  It shouldn’t be that hard.  …and if a rule is dumb, change or remove it….but until then enforce it…..equally.  They have done better with the Red cross flag consistency…whether you like it or not.

This was not team orders, the proof is in the math! It was a guy trying to do math while racing! He got the math wrong so it looks stupid but if he was correct he would have looked brilliant!  The Promoters and the AMA don’t like it because this series and championship points system was designed to make every race count and for the championship come down to the last race.

No melt down here.  I dig the shit out of Jett.  He's about as flawless as you're ever gonna see in this sport.  I've also enjoyed his persona.

I fully admit he stepped all over his dick on this deal.

But, I also see there is an AMA rule about this...which doesn't address the problem of SMX scoring.  An unforseen circumstance.  Nobodies fault...you don't know till you know.

Someone posted a joke about, "isn't trying to win also a manipulation of race outcome".  As silly as it sounds...what Jett tried to do was "give full effort" toward winning the race.  It's not his fault he sucks at mental math while racing a dirt bike....nor is it his fault the scoring system was changed but not the rulebook.

Before you get yer panties in a wad...re-read my second paragraph/sentence.

Any of you old fuggers remember the Jammer and his paddle tire?  That's how situations arise that require a re-evaluation of the rules.  I think we're there again.

What a stupid, subjective rule. You think 18-22nd place is always out there giving it their best? How 'bout this, make betting on these races illegal instead of trying to enforce the "good ole college try." If a championship is on the line and all you need to do is let someone by to get it, who cares if it *looks* deliberate or not. It's a bad rule with subjective enforcement. INCENTIVES like purses and bonuses is what motivates people to "do their best." In this case, mistaken or not, the intent expressed was to win the championship, which is a bigger deal than one moto. I don't expect the AMA to think that hard about it, though.

I agree but the "warning" instead of a penalty tells me the AMA did think about it.  Good for them.

Like I said...sometimes you can't predict un-intended consequences.  I rag on the AMA but in this case...I believe they made the right call.  I'd say the same if it was a rider I hated but truthfully...I don't hate any of them.

Why does everyone keep spelling "By" wrong in this thread? There is "let him by" and then there is "wave Bye Bye" . They are not the same. Is everyone here home schooled?

By is an adverb, not a noun and should only be capitalized at the beginning of a sentence.

Bye can actually used as a noun but not in the context of your example, so your use of capitals there is also incorrect.

This should not have gotten past Falcon.

This wouldn't have happened if they were paying points for each moto like Motorcross. Instead they are only paying the overall, if that moto was worth 50 points Jett wouldn't have pulled over.

Exactly. The end goal is to win the million bucks. If an advantage is gained by allowing a competitor to pass, the system is the problem. I realize Jett's math was incorrect but you get the point. That being said, Jett's words could have been better chosen.

I agree with the end goal, but to clarify if you allow another competitor to pass you so you can get a championship advantage over another competitor (pre-supposing the Roczen pass actually got him to 2nd OA in front of Chase), then I think nothing is wrong with that. Just be more subtle and don't tell the friggin world. Those guys go so fast it doesn't take much to take a wrong line and get passed. The rules may be written per race, but the racers are thinking championship implications.

I agree on both counts Plowboy.

If the event result's points were paid in the same as the outdoors series Jett would have had no incentive to try and manipulate the result.

The AMA rule is incredibly badly written, I can't see it holding up under any kind of challenge or scrutiny by a team or rider (provided they don't admit in public that they threw the race on purpose - like Jett did).

What I didn’t like is the fact that he robbed Kenny of a true win. Kenny was about to beat the kid straight up, an achievement no other rider has done yet this season. I’m pretty close to thinking Jett was very aware he was gonna get beat and didn’t want to lose like that so he waived Ken by and came up with a stupid excuse.

I disagree, Feld would be loving the social media coverage it's generating, especially heading into the final race with 3 riders capable of winning the title.

I can't even begin to get around this line of thinking.

If you haven't watched this years outdoors season I suggest you watch it.  If you have then re-watch it.

Count how many times Chase was within 2 seconds of Jett then multiply that by the duration.  Then, using Jett math you can deduct there is no way in hell that kid is going to wave by anyone thinking he is going to get beaten.

I remember one time I think it was Vegas I saw a teammate let another teammate by.  I don’t like it at all.

Yeah even the lap times and gaps don’t support the theory that Ken was going to pass him.

I know you have been emotionally invested in this, nearly 40 posts about it since Saturday, but your data is empirically incorrect.

Ken caught Jett with a faster lap 7, matched him in lap 8, and then Jett capitulated on lap 9.

Jett then turned laps an average of nearly 3 seconds off Ken after that. You really go out on a limb saying that Jett would sustain a pace 3 seconds a lap faster to fit your narrative.

The lap charts show that Kenny caught him. Jett tried to drop back down to the 152s, Kenny matched his pace, and Jett never even got into the 153s after that. Ken stayed right on the money with 153s to the last lap.

You can't surmise that Kenny wasn't catching Jett when he did. Or that Jett would have been able to match Kenny's pace after, when the data shows that he could barely stay within 3 seconds a lap for the remaining 4 laps.

So what if Kenny leads moto 2 on Saturday, Jett 2nd, Sexton 3rd. Jett had a shitty first moto and no chance at the title. Will he let Sexton by so Honda can win the title? Whistling
