Lars van Berkel came to the states with a gear bag and some suspension, ended up racing a few nationals and a couple of Canadian nationals, loved every minute of his vlogs, there is no reason it can't be done in reverse.

It seems to escape many people but that is literally how many riders do it when attending the MXoN.

Would be a good lesson in humility for some top riders to step up and do it if they can't get full team support.

Some of you thinking that the Deegans could just straight up tell Star, or any other riders telling their teams that they are racing on their own dime is laughable. Are you guys actually serious?

For those not self employed, go tell your employers that you're going to use their equipment to do something outside of what you are contracted to do but on your own dime and see what their response is. I work for a great company and even they would look at me and tell me, "the hell you are!"

Yes, I agree it's really going to suck if we don't send a team to MXdN. At the same time, is MXdN in any of these racers contracts? If no, then it's 100% up to the team on whether these racers can go or not. They are contracted for SX, MX and SMX and anything outside of that has to be cleared by their teams.

probably along the lines on "you are contracted to race for Star and Star only, that's a breach of contract. We also own the suspension and electronics. Have your lawyers call our lawyer." Just a guess though...

If Deegan's bike was claimed at LL, he could have borrowed it for MXdN!

Why did Justin Cooper move his wedding date to be free for the original MXoN date?  If Star was absolutely not supporting any riders going then why bother shifting his wedding around?

Maybe something changed between then and now with how Star feels?

Maybe their budget changed?

If anything their budget got help from injured riders. Less staff traveling/parts being consumed.

This is just fucking embarrassing as a country in this sport. But it all boils down to supercross. This country has made it the top most Important series of the year. Anyone switching teams can’t go because even if the old ten will support them that’s less time prep on the new bike for the upcoming supercross season. Rider has a nagging injury, guess what sport boot camp for supercross starts November 1st. Most teams wouldn’t give a shit if they even raced the nationals outside of the factory teams (only because they know that’s the people who are buying bikes and gear). The rest of the world races mx all year. We focus 9 months out of the year on supercross and 3 on MX. like someone said before unless it’s in the USA then none of the team or riders make it a priority. I understand why the teams focus so much on supercross is because of the exposure but the system is broken for the core fan.

I just don’t know where this “if we go to MXdN we will be behind on testing” retort comes from. I understand SX is more important to the teams/manufacturers but in what year or years did participating in MXdN decide the outcome of the Supercross series that they’re hesitant to participate? If SX is more important, just tell us. I don’t understand what these team gain by lying about the reason they don’t want to go to MXdN.

I know it’s unpopular to say this…or rude or something.  Do you know how long the list of MXGP Champions have come over here to try to win an SX or MX title.  It’s pretty long…and most have not won a title in the competition in the U.S.  Now…do you know how short the list of SX and MX Champions have gone over there to compete for an MXGP title?  Athletes want to move up to become the best.  Champions don’t move down…so..draw your own conclusions about “world champion”.  And those Australians are here to compete..not there…because they value these championships less?.  I guess they would just rather play in our back yard with us…. Just returning the sentiment.

AMA Supercross is the premier championship in the world, it pays the most and attracts riders because of the money, that doesn't make it a "world championship".

The Lawrence family moved to the US after getting stiffed on payment by a MXGP team, they are following the money!

Words….calling something the “World Championship” by one’s own promoters means nothing…well except in today’s world I guess as long as they identify as a world champion.  What matters is where are the best riders going.  Sure..they follow the money…and that makes it the Premier series and championship. Words don’t make you the best.  Beating the best makes you the best….and that flow is in one direction…our back yard.

.

.

also…the Lawrence bros can pick their team in Europe when their HRC contract is up and they sure as hell won’t get stiffed any more.  What do you think the odds of that happening are?  No…they will keep playing with us in our little back yard….  Wierd… Makes me think one title is more important than another to them?

Might want to check your facts there...

JMB, Albertyn, Langston, Townley, Pourcel, Musquin, Roczen, Ferrandis - all GP champions that came to the US and won titles.

Pichon, Roncada, Reed, and the Lawrence brothers all came from or via the GP's to win titles in the US (Pichon later went back to Europe and won a GP title).

Tortelli, Vuillemin, Rattray, and now Vialle all won races in the US and at one stage or another were considered genuine title contenders.

Back to the early nineties I count 8 GP champions that came to the US and won titles.

Fair enough..and I am too lazy to go back and count riders that did not win a championship…and specifically a big bike championship since that is the premier title.  Small bike doesn’t really count as much.  ..and how many years were they here and how many championships did they not win?  Also..if you are going back to JMB maybe count the number of championships won by an American.  It’s a pretty long and impressive list.  My point is talking down to the US series by calling it our back yard does not hold much weight.

in no way am I defending the lame ass approach to MXdN by our riders and teams.  That pisses me off.  I’m just defending the clear shot at our “back yard”.

It is your backyard.  Of course more Americans have won, it’s your national series.

The top guys that come from the GP’s also do well in the US.  The list I gave is all of the top riders that have come over, aside from a handful of privateer level riders.  That’s it - 17 of them in over 30 years.  Your claim that GP riders don’t cut it in the US just doesn’t hold water.

Conversely if the standard in the AMA series is that much better then why don’t riders who are career 5-10 place guys go to Europe and win a world title?  That would be far more lucrative than running around in 10th place year after year.

But it is your backyard, the only other countries that could claim it was there backyard, are Canada and Mexico!

I'm shocked, a racing series in the US is dominated by US riders who would have though that was possible!

If there was a race series that had events around the world, who would be the dominant riders?

It is your backyard.  Of course more Americans have won, it’s your national series.

The top guys that come from the GP’s also do well in the US.  The list I gave is all of the top riders that have come over, aside from a handful of privateer level riders.  That’s it - 17 of them in over 30 years.  Your claim that GP riders don’t cut it in the US just doesn’t hold water.

Conversely if the standard in the AMA series is that much better then why don’t riders who are career 5-10 place guys go to Europe and win a world title?  That would be far more lucrative than running around in 10th place year after year.

I know more US riders stay here and Europeans mostly stay in Europe.  But when we talk Champions…the flow is in one direction.  That’s really the point.  They want to compete in the premier series.  The flow is one direction.  They don’t go there because they are already in the premier championship.  …and no one came here and dominated in any way.  JMB won 1 SX and 1 MX big bike title.  He is the ONLY MXGP champion to win a big bike SX title…ever.  One.   As for others outdoors Greg Albertyn 1 out of how many seasons?  Grant Langston 1 out of how many seasons?  Kenny 2( which is the best) out of how many seasons?  And Dylan 1 out of 3 big bike seasons so far?  I’m a huge fan of some.  This argument is a response to the attack on the US series and the numbers show it is VERY hard for an MXGP champion to then come over and have the same level of success and the argument is pretty solid that this back yard is as high, if not a higher, level of competition.

.

.and if there had only been one series instead of MXGP, SX, and MX at the premier level…I am betting that championship history would have a lot of US flags dotted around it….but…we all have our own opinions.

I do agree we need to switch things up.  I'd like to see someone line RC, RV or Osborne be the team manager.  These are all guys that have showed they were committed and been vocal about the importance of this race.  These 3 also know how it should be more of a team effort.  The amount of people needs to be super slimmed down.  Rider, mechanic and 1 guy like a Paul Perebijnos that handles all the gear, goggles, etc for all 3 riders.  No wives or girlfriends or anything.  They need to be sent off like they are going to war because that needs to be the mentality.  It could be done a lot simpler seems like.  I can't believe we are having a hard time finding someone to go over and run the 1,2,3.

I like your enthusiasm but think if you treat it like “going to war” we might have an even harder time fielding a team! This should be a fun, end of season event. Yes you want to win but it should also be allowed to be treated like a vacation for all your hard work and being selected to represent USA

I disagree this needs to be taken serious.  I want to see guys that want to be there and race it above all else.  If you have to be convinced to go then in my opinion you weren't worthy in the first place.  This should be a no question if you are asked to go then you go.  Kawi sucks too for not showing any support for it.

I’m gonna start a series in my back yard and call it the super duper world motocross championship. The winner will be the super duper motocross champ. In my opinion it will be regarded as the premier motocross championship because the name. No one will be able to claim it’s not the best series in the world because of its super duper name.

That'd be my only suggestion, otherwise it sounds like you'll have a championship above all championships.

'World" is self proclaimed by all parties...  There is no true "world" championship as long as there is a competing series splitting the talent pool.

Go listen to Perebijnos on Pulp and you will learn why this has been such a problem this year.

Remember kids, this sport is not free and these Teams are running a business.
