I'm taking this to mean that Sexton is going to discreetly hop on a KTM after this weekend for an outdoor test and decide if he's good enough. My uninformed opinion.

He already did.

I get it why some guys are reluctant to go.

Riders don't get paid one euro or dollar to race in MXON;

This race for no money is a risk of injury;

Riders have to take two weeks out of their off extremely short off season to go to a country that can be difficult to get quality food and good accommodations;

Riders have to pay out of their own pocket for travel and lodging expenses sometimes - business class to CDG or AMS  and back ain't cheap, roughly 8 to 10 grand, and hotels in the summer in that part of France are rare and expensive.

And, history says there is a good chance it will rain.

Riders have to pay out of their own pocket for travel and lodging expenses sometimes

As in smaller countries/teams, or have American riders had to pay their own way before?

Maybe they are concerned if they ride for the USA, they might be considered “too patriot” and get attacked by some Canadian guy..

I do think Sexton and Deegan are locked in..

Locked in is Plessinger...  The other 2 are the ones holding up the announcement.

Sexton - Plessinger and Deegan I believe is the goal.

Not gonna lie it would be kinda cool to see Barcia shred the 250.

If Sexton doesn't go and they move Pless up to MX1, I'd love to see Barcia ride the 350 in MX3...  But these are just dreams.

Barcia on the 250 is still a possibility it sounds like.

I hope Sexton goes, because he's exciting but I do not see a massive upside to him turning up on a KTM. He won't have much time on the bike and the risk of injury is not insignificant. That goes for every rider on the gate I know.

America might have an all Austrian squad: AP, Sexton, RJ?

Zero percent change sexton shows up on a ktm. It will be a Honda or he won’t go. He isn’t racing the ktm with no practice time.

Why again is Kawie not allowing riders at the MXdN?

Somebody correct me here, but I think I heard that they believe that the cost isn't worth what they get out of it, plus it messes with their testing schedule?

Either that or the don't like DeCoster as manager?

Thought it went back to the 2017 SX shenanigans, Marv pulling over for Dungey, Anderson taking out Reed.

Number one its budgetary, but beyond that they have no interest in being part of the “team”. In 2018 they used the MXDN as a test bed for the 2019 bike (Eli was the only Kaw rider on the new bike) They wouldn’t use the team headsets so there was no communication with team USA on race day…it’s unfortunate but its the way their current management thinks..

You're not wrong. Seems like the other brands find a way to make it happen

Same shite every single year.
You’d think the powers that be, could sort out a schedule that makes MXdN more of an attractive opportunity for riders and teams?

It should be the pinnacle of the global moto year.
It’s almost as if they care more about lining their own pockets……

Kawie could also tell JA21 he can't go, depends on how his contract is written. That would really suck because he could probably easily rustle up the cash through go fund me to go.

I feel Eli is stronger than you may think.

How far along is Eli's rehab?  There's no way he could be in the mix for the Nations this soon...is there?

From what I heard on the Budds podium, it sure seemed like Barcia and Plessinger were locks. But if Sexton can go and wants to go, he’s the obvious pick for MX1. Like others have said, Barcia on a GasGas 250 would be awesome. That would be the team for sure, if the Deegan rumors are true that he’s out. If he’s in, that’s a tough choice for the Open Class between Barcia and Plessinger. Plessinger has been here all year and in essentially Barcia’s first race back they were an identical pace. Barcia rode really well at Ernee in 2015. I would personally favor Barcia, but I think the difference is extremely small. I just feel Barcia would do better there and the way the track is designed, you have to be aggressive with passes a lot, something Barcia has no problem with.

Remember when Barcia was an option for the 250 last year, so he practiced on the bike, but ended up declining because his speed on the small bike wasn’t going to be competitive.

Why would it be any different this year? Am I missing something?
