a) I don’t think he’s a citizen.

b) even if he was, would he actually want to ride for USA?

I would guess most foreign riders, even if naturalised, would want to ride for their native country.

Isn't sarcasm supposed to be remotely funny?

That would be the second rider to do that, after Jeff Ward if I remember correctly.

Honestly he should apply. He even said in a post recently that he needed to apply for the US team since the french team is notoriously known for not picking their fellow countrymen racing in the US (Bayle, DV, Tortelli, Pichon, Musquin, him, etc).

I have no clue how the fans would agree with that though, how would you feel, would you consider him as an american ? And is it really necessary as Webb should perform well too ? (Sexton?, MX2?, Webb?)

I think you should have to ride for the country that you lived in for the majority of the year in question.

Same for Ryder Cup. Rory McIlroy spends the year laid up in Jupiter and then gets amped up for the EU for a week, Seems allegiance is manufactured at best.

edit: after posting I think my ire here is more directed at golf…not practical given the SX/MX world but I’ll leave the post.

I get where you're coming from but being in Florida for a few years doesn't make him an American and he doesn't even have citizenship. Born in France, usually French.

I'm sure it's not quite that black and white and I also appreciate it can get muddy if someone is in another country on holiday or working or deployed or whatever and a kid falls out...

Not saying either view is right or wrong, just always different opinions and it's tough to define I guess.

Most riders move here and never move back, if he's interested in living here after he retires I'm okay with him riding for USA!

Travis Pastrana riding for the international mental asylum?  Robbie Maddison and Ronnie Mac could join him, what a team!

He said a few times he planned to return to France when he's done racing.

Obviously that's subject to change if/whenever he feels like it, but he has said it more than once 👍

Elliot, that is interesting, cheers for sharing 👍 I always assumed it was like an old school Olympics type deal with TP199 and other more random teams way back when making up the numbers.

Yeah Ward was born in Scotland but came here when he was a toddler . It wouldn't be remotely the same . I like Dylan but would be against him or any other foreign rider being on Team USA

Didn't France send Christophe Charlier, an Enduro rider, in 2018 and still won the MXdN? The FFM could select a random dude from París and still finish on the podium.

RF3, TV128 and MR959 is a soild Team but I think Dylan on a Star YZ250F would do much better than Vialle honestly.

Interview from Dylan says Yamaha wanted $70k from french federation for shipping and costs so sending Rénaux was a lot less expensive

Puerto Rico is not a country.  It’s technically part of the US.

Listen to this and then tell me, why should he?

If he could ride for the US would you want him to? I'm kind of at a loss when it's proposed. The French guy? On Team USA? I'd rather send actual Americans and lose then send some "fake" team. I like Dylan by the way.

Is winning that important that you’re prepared to send a foreigner to represent your country?
Would seem like a hollow victory to me if it happened. Ridiculous proposal.
Even more preposterous when you consider how some US fans have treated Ferrandis.

Paturel, I guess?  Other 450 riders are Rubini, Boog, Aranda, Boisrame

Reneaux has won GPs and went 3-1 last year mxdn, he's better than dylan anyway. The clear choice.
