450MX snoozefest

I hate to say it but the 450 class has become so boring, anticlimactic, I don’t even watch the races anymore. There’s no interesting storylines, no competition, just very difficult to get into. Last year was the racing so awesome that I guess it spoiled me and probably a lot of people. Thoughts from anyone else?

If you don’t enjoy watching Jett ride I dunno what to tell you. Chase is keeping him honest last couple rounds.

I like Jett but if we all know he’s going win, then why watch it. Last year there was suspense because you never knew if Eli or Chase were going to be the fastest on a certain day.

I think it’s pretty exciting to see a rookie on the verge of a perfect season.  Even if he doesn’t pull it off, which I hope he does, it’s still been amazing to watch.  And like Soggy said, if you don’t like watching Jett ride, I don’t know what to tell you either.
We’re watching the beginning of a special 450 career, I for one am glad to be a witness to it.

Could not agree more with OP.    I just FF thru the race after the start.   Boring AF.

The only highlight yesterday was the 2-smokers.

Maybe get to know storylines on some of the other racers and start to care where those racers finish each weekend. There is a huge deal unfolding for 2 racers in the 450 class and that is the battle for 450 Rookie of the Year Award. And its quite arguably a great one. Its between Ty Masterpool and Garrett Marchbanks who it seems keep scoring the exact amount of points for the past few rounds. This is a big deal to them. Its a big deal if your love moto and involve yourself in the personal battles behind the camera. Grant Harlan is looking to score as many points as possible this year with the new format for hopefully a good payout in the playoff in the end. This is huge for him and others like him who can really use the $$.

I go to social media on some of the privateers. Read about them, get to know their background, become a fan and then follow them on the season. I have several riders in the 450 class that matter to me. Not a boring or snooze-fest at all

I just went back and checked, and yes, in the last 3 rounds, Masterpool has scored points of 27, 28, & 28. Marchbanks points last 3:  27, 28, & 28. I'd say we have an awesome battle on our hands for 450 Rookie of the Year! Great season in the 450'S !!!!!

I mean sexton has been right there multiple races.  Within a couple seconds for most the race ( until he falls).  If Jett could just get a bad start once in a while it would help.  He starts so good, it's insane.

Hate to say it, but I’ve been doing the same thing. I’ll watch the 250’s all the way through, but once Jett gets a few seconds up, I basically skip through a few minutes at a time to see if the lead has changed, then watch the last 5 minutes or so. Been doing the same thing with F1 since Max has been finishing miles ahead of second all year.

Washougal isn’t the best track for racing either which didn’t help. Yes a few good passes here & there but the track is very processional to watch.

Was pretty much the same when Ricky & James did it outdoors and when MC almost pulled it off  in SX.

No points chase and not many battles for wins.

But IMO witnessing nearly the unthinkable  has always been neat in its own way.

Pulling off a perfect season is the greatest achievement one can do in the sport or any sport for that matter.

So getting to witness it I always thought was neat.

Chase made a good run trying to catch Jett.  If he hadn't pushed it a little to far we would have had maybe as exciting last few laps we've seen in a while.  Following Ty is good fun.  The 2 stroke purse was a nice change.  I thought it was good racing.

I recall years back when RC lapped pretty much the field and JM was in a league of his own.  Not much as changed except the names and bikes.  Its still better than cleaning out the garage or cleaning the swimming pool on a Saturday afternoon.

Yep....

At this point I'm ready to dress as a ninja and track down Jett and give him a slight injury like a broken toe or bruised elbow just to make the series entertaining and competitive again Evil

Blame the rest of the field, not Jett. They have been mentally beaten since about round 3. Chase is the only one that seems to GAF.

How can either of those win rookie of the year when a rookie is 5 points away from winning the title?

edit:

I guess I should have read all posts before replying

Watching Jett is definitely fun but he’s too damn good and at some point you want to see competitive racing. There’s a reason why last year was so exciting and it’s because we had good racing with a close points battle.

Said in another thread, love racing but with chase and Jett being so smooth, it’s not as exciting to watch as someone like Eli who has some aggression in his style battle chase.

If you don't have the mxgp package it's well worth the money as the 4t0 battles have been epic week after week!! Even with Herlings out right now the guys are battling down to the checkered flag!1

It shows how hard it is to ride a 450 to its full potential that no one can run like chase and Jett….

and yet we bitch a Suzuki has no e start but none of us can ride one like those 2.

For so called fans of the sport there's some sad sacks on here that obviously can't appreciate watching one of the best riders of all time do his thing... I don't really understand how you can't just sit and marvel at what Jett is doing in his rookie year at 19 years of age

Agreed...

Just saying the head to head competition for the lead is boring...

That's a fact.....

In my opinion, and I believe this to be 100% accurate......Jett is "holding back" a bit so not to embarass the rest of the field....

Thoughts?

What sucked about the RC era was the predictable outcomes and groaning when he took the lead on the second lap, but it was also cool witnessing history being made. I certainly don't regret watching all those races, which I did pretty religiously throughout his reign of terror. There is always some type of interesting angle in motocross.

And JS7 is gold in making the broadcast more interesting with his insight and humor.
