Garage got broken into early this morning, they stole 3 bikes but we were able to find one they didnt have time to load. 22 KX250, 19 250SXF able to recover the 22 350SXF. made off with some tools and some other stuff. They are insured, does anyone know what i can possibly expect the insurance to cover? I have Progressive. BTW the police said there are a few crews specializing in bike and ATV theft in the Detroit suburbs
That’s such a bummer, best case is they don’t find them, as long as you are covered by insurance
Read your policy carefully and then you will have an idea on what to expect, but they will still fight you all the way.
Fuck thieves!!!
Some companies are harder to get your full compensation from. Even if it's written in the policy.

FTFY - String up thieves....
could have been a lot worse but my neighbor spooked them
I hate a f…..king thief. Hope you had air tags. Dirt bike theft doesn’t rate high on the list of law enforcement if you live in a metro area, at least most.
Not that anything is a 100% solution for preventing having bikes stolen, I sleep a little better with my bike locked up and having the front wheel in my house. I've done it for years and it only takes a couple minutes to put it on in the morning of ride day.
I hope you get your bikes back.
Expect sodomy in the first degree.
Most policies have a process for requesting independent appraisal for stuff if you dispute what they offer you.
Too bad you didn’t catch them in the act with a loading ramp on standby.
Insurance companies can act a lot like thieves too.
Remember they'll often offer you way less just hoping that you take it or are unaware you can tell them they're taking the piss.
You've been paying for cover, hold out and make them COVER replacement 👍
Sucks that this happened bro, its way too common, hope it shakes out as well as it can do (that's all relative I know, it really does suck).
Keep watching Youtube and there is a good possibility you'll see your bikes being wheelie'd down the streets of Detroit. Sadly, my statement is not a joke and the cops won't do shit even if there is solid video proof.
Buddy of mine, also Detroit area, got hit last year. Had literal proof of his stolen bikes being ridden all over Detroit. A few popped up on Marketplace (one is there now, no joke). Showed all of his proof to the police and they did nothing. They do not care.
This is one of his stolen bikes.

Messaged him acting as if I'm interested. I assume he's not the one that thieved it but who knows.
Sorry to hear about your stolen bikes and tools OP, and you owe your neighbor a beer (at least they didn't get them all i guess). Thieves suck
Considering that you have Progressive and you live in Michigan, they will most likely offer you the NADA average retail value
KX250 - $7575
ktm250sxf - $7131
+ a depericiated value for any aftermarket parts you have
Back tire is bald in the middle and chain is about to come off. Trade for a quad or bike that runs. These people are so damn lazy.
Really sad.

some might have a moral problem with this but insurance companies will fight you hard on this.
I would read your policy very carefully and craft your story to fit directly to be within the terms and conditions of the policy. Write down what youre going to tell them and say exactly that. If they call again, have what you said handy so you can make sure you have the same story again.
Best of luck getting this figured out. Makes me think we were crazy leaving our bikes in an unlocked barn on the farm for so many years
Not my first choice of action but I wonder what would happen. If you acted like you wanted to buy it. You n like a few buddies show up and just start loading it up. Might need to unfortunately be armed to make it happen. You can't steal what is technically your's.
I used to be if they were in possession of your property they got busted. I guess that has changed.
Insurance companies are in the business of thievery too. They'll throw you a bone to appease you even though your understanding of the policy you signed said you'd get full compensation for stolen goods. They know that you can't afford to contest them to get what was promised upon signing.
A few years ago, a friend of mine lost their home to a fire. The insurance company made them what sounded like a reasonable offer for reimbursement. However, they were contacted by a company that follows situations like theirs and will recover what the insurance company rightly owes the policy holder for 10% of what they recover. The insurance company said these people were scammers, but since they would only receive a portion of whatever they recovered and required no money upfront, my friends hired them.
That company was able to get my friends tens of thousands of dollars more than the insurance company offered originally.
My buddy had his stolen by some wheelie boys last November. He met up with the dude at a really nice house. Said they chatted about the local tracks and stuff. He then unloaded the bike to let the guy ride it. Dude hopped on it and took off. My buddy thought he maybe wrecked or something and went looking for him. He was gone though. Looked up the address for the house. It was an empty house for sale.
Cops pulled the dude over on it last week and he’s getting it back. Of course it has street tires on it now and needs a rebuild. So there is hope sometimes.
Just take one of those clear images of his face he has posted to the local authorities and explain the situation.
But they might have a hard time believing the fellow would have a stolen bike listed along with his legitimate shoe business offerings.
I don’t think the insurance company will screw you too bad on the bikes. They’ll fight when people want $250k payout after they have a sore neck in a fender bender. The $12-15k or so book value of your bikes isn’t a big deal to them and it’ll cost more in admin and legal fees to fight you on it.
They will fight you on tools and other stuff. That should fall under your homeowners policy. Even if both are progressive, the policies will fall under different divisions in the company and you might have an entirely different experience dealing with each department.
I doubt anything will happen. Police are inundated these days and in most cases, their hands are tied. Plus, if caught, the scumbags will be back out doing the same shit the next day.
There are no repercussions for crime any more.
I had a fire that I lost almost everything I owned . An independent insurance guy like the company your friend had, stopped by before my insurance company sent anybody out. And My insurance company was 2 buildings away from my house! He helped us get what we really should have gotten and knew the games the insurance company would try and play. He read over our coverage and helped make sure that we were able to get a really good amount of money and made it easier for us since we dealt with him instead of the company that was trying to low ball us. Now years later I know that the first offer from Insurance is never the real offer. They hope you take the low offer , and many people do. Same thing with a fender bender. They will offer sometimes not even half of what it would cost to fix the vehicle. And they hope you just pocket the money and do not fix the vehicle. I've done some work for a few body shops now ,and they have all said that most of the time the first offer for fixing a vehicle is around 50-60% of what the end number ends up. I think Fires are little different though.
Apparently, I didn't make the sarcasm obvious enough... or you didn't see his FB page.
The latter..... I don't do Farcebook or support Fuckerberg in any way.
