What do you mean “hater”?

No one “hates” Jett. I think he attracts a lot of younger, sensitive fans who think a little criticism or a downvote causes their feelings to be hurt.

Spot on again.

The world is filled with overly sensitive people these days.     Can you feel the fury of their downvotes.  lol

This could not be further from the truth.  At the races that I've attended, Jett had some of the loudest cheers.  Americans love the Hunter brothers, and if there is any disdain, I suspect it is towards the Lawrence fans themselves and not towards Jett.

Any time there is a next level rider, there are a certain subset of their fans that are intolerable.

I've already seen fans claiming he will break RC and McGrath's records, that he would have smoked Eli Tomac, etc.  When this happens, there seems to be an almost equally ridiculous counter effect where others will underplay Jett's talent or achievements.  But both groups tend to be in the minority, and if you attend a race you will see that the Hunter brothers are very popular.  Their talents on a bike are undeniable, and highly respected by Americans.

For sure, by some Americans, but not all.

The rednecks of the forum are simply ‘Anti’ anything non-American. And that will never change.

Rednecks lol. What is that anyway?

The kid (Jett) is only 19 years old. Heck he’s full of vigor and young reflexes. He’s dang smooth though and doesn’t look like he’s trying. As long as he keeps it on two wheels he’ll be fine.

The track is littered with guys who were in his same spot but have gone through years of injuries - AC, CW, DF, ET, JH84, etc.

Jeremy McGrath, RC, Jeff Stanton, Ron Lechien, Cairoli, all avoided “big” injuries, and hopefully Jett can do the same. But… there’s not disdain for him just cautious optimism as he gets some 450 races under his belt.

Find me a post of mine where I said anyone had disdain for RC, RV, RD or Eli Tomac, because you won't be able to.   You've just got a Hard on for me, because entered the forbidden zone and made a criticism of James Stewart and that gets a member on this site the Hater label with his fans.  I created this thread, because I've seen people complain about Jett Lawrence and I'm not really understanding why.   He's a legitimate Superstar in SX/MX and he seems like a really likeable and incredibly gifted rider.  Maybe I should have added to the Poll that there's disdain for Jett, because he's going to be the guy that prevents Dangerboy from ever winning a 450 SX or MX title.  There are great riders that should have won more AMA 450 titles during their careers, but there's always that pesky superior rider like RC that are selfish with the Championships and hog them all to themselves.  I think Jett might be the next Championship Hog for quite a while unless other riders step up their game in a big way.

I’m bored so I’ll throw my hat into the ring and ruffle some feathers and get ripped apart by everyone lol.

Call me crazy but I feel like there’s a side of them (both Jett and Hunter) we don’t see, but it does come out from time to time. I feel like both of them have made some dirty moves on guys after they’ve been challenged/passed (like how dare they race me) Hunter grabbing Styles Robertsons helmet, the Cameron Mcadoo deal with Jett… certainly looked like Jett was out for blood when he went to go pass him after he got up. Jett being interviewed after qualifying this weekend complaining about slow riders never getting out of the way, like he’s the only one who’s supposed to be out there, and just the various hand gestures you see from them out on the track, like everyone else is an inconvenience to them.

The whole “we are just awesome fun loving guys who are great to be around” just seems fake. And the media just paints them as such an amazingly wonderful family who gave up everything to do this and “took some incredible chance with the odds stacked against them”, like they are the only ones to ever do that.

like I said, it all just seems fake, like they are the type of guys who smile at you but are giving you the middle finger under the table.

And just to be clear, I have nothing against either one of these guys. They are incredible riders who have accomplished so much and I’m really looking forward to seeing how much more they can achieve. I truly think Jett will go down as one of the all time greats. They are great for the sport, giving tons of fans something to cheer for. These were just some stupid thoughts that circle in my head every time I hear about them and probably not accurate at all haha.

What bemuses me is fans say there will never be another mc, goat, stew. That today's field is to even. Everyone knows the secrets to success and the training camps make everyone to even.

Then jett comes along starts becoming successful and wins 4 championships about 14 mx races and 13 sx races. But it takes him 7 series to do it and not 6. Then the same ppl say. Nope nothing like them guys they won way more races. But yet they said it's impossible to win that much these days.

I think jett is trying become the next evolution. They all learned from rc and stew

Then came along RV and dunge. The next generation wanted to be RV and not boring dunge.

Then came along the tomacs and herlings. Blazing fast but crashing out. Today's races and themselves have noticed this and realise a bit more dunge is beneficial. It doesn't matter if you win 10 races and crash out of the championship.

An that is how Jett has been trained. Those guys won by 1 min. Jett wins as slow as possible. He settles for 2nds and 3rds. He will never win as many races coz his goal is championships.

Because people who love their guy who is aging out hate having someone telling them someone new is better.  RC, James, Reed, etc., all got backlash initially.

Then there's the back and forth nationalism to turbo things.

He’s winning, he’s young, he’s Australian.
He has a brother who is also winning and together they’re a marketing dream.

The hype. There are 39 other professionals on the gate with him that get almost completely ignored by the media.

I don't think there's any good reason to disdain Jett. He seems like a good kid with a lot of personality and he could be a great mainstream represtative for our sport.

If anything, I can say that I'm an old school fan of motocross and I revere the record books that we measure all current racers by. If I said to you "72 wins," or "15 national championships," you'd know exactly who I was talking about. When a new kid like Jett comes up, I first ask myself if I think he is worthy of challenging these legends. So I slowly start to appreciate the new guy's accomplishments.

For what it's worth, and from what I can see so far, I think either Chase or Jett would be worthy and honorable champions, and their place in the history books would be deserving if they start to dominate.

Let's have some fun this summer and watch it play out.

I get a little bit of the, “my crap doesn’t stink” vibe from Jett. On one hand, he’s 19, he’s a BAD dude on a motorcycle, and he has everyone in the industry gargling his junk. So it makes sense.

On another hand, I’ve always appreciated the athletes (in any sport) that know they are good and carry a certain level of swagger, but clearly retain a reasonable level of humility.

I see this too, Jett and especially Hunter have this condescending undertone to them. Like in the press conference, Hunter sitting up there just smacking away on whatever he was eating. It was very disrespectful and not professional imo. That rubbed me the wrong way for some reason.

It’s probably going to be pretty boring yet awe inspiring the next few years. Sort of like when you just knew RC was going to win every race.

Sexton will be like KDub out there.

No disdain for Jett, but I certainly get tired of the excessive promotion by the producers.  It’s like when the radio plays the same song way to often.  Might be a great song, but without some variety you start to sour on it.

Say Wat? Tomac has crashed less than anybody in recent memory and moved in to 2nd all time SX.

American moto fans, only like American moto racers.

Both Kenny and Reed are two recent transplants to our series and had some of the longest lines and loudest fans out of anyone throughout their careers. There is nothing even approaching hostility toward anyone for being Australian over here. People used to dislike French riders but I’ve never understood that. I’ve been to two Supercross races since the bros got here and didn’t hear a single boo. I heard plenty of fans booing Craig in Salt Lake last year because they wanted Hunter to win the title.

As a fellow Brit, I can tell you that this is definitely not the case, it's actually surprising to me how much Americans will embrace a foreigner and even root for them over one of their own, something that really doesn't happen in the UK. Ken Roczen is a perfect example.

Regards that ‘other side of them’. Do you mean that killer instinct that nearly every multi time champ displays from time to time? Dunge is about the only exception I can think of, but even he went for it when he had to. I think that’s often a characteristic that separates them from mere mortals.

That is the paragraph.

Both those 2 early in their careers crashed out of champships alot.

Both have learned or know they had to tone it down a bit to win the long game.

So what you have said is confirming my comment.

5/28/2023 8:46pm

So in 5+ years time when Jett dominants and develops an American Accent will the American fans try adopt him as their own ? You know kinda like when Kenny was dominating some fans were calling him American.

That was during a period were Americans weren't winning anything lol, more like a reach.

I don’t hate or have any disdain for Jett as a person. But I honestly can’t stand his fans or the constant barrage from the media. It’s like Stewart all over again.

A lot of people used to hate Chad In  his early days especially during the Reed/Stewart rivalry. There was multiple anti Reed threads after every race back then. It wasn't until he started his own team that people started to come around and realise that Chad was pretty bad arse for committing  to his own team using his own money.
