AC could have chopped the throttle.  In a split second he had to decide let off and risk crashing/injury or power over the downed rider.  AC has been hurt ALOT.  He made a choice and some people don't like the choice he made.  When I raced, if a rider went down right in front of me and the pack was right behind us, someone was getting run over.  You better be tough if you want to race dirt bikes.

He actually needed to be on the throttle harder and pivot more to avoid contact. Looking at his angle coming out of the corner and the speed he already had, if he chopped, he was actually going to run into Cooper even more squared up.

There's a massive difference in roll speed compared to the majority of us and what's going on there, you can't just chop throttle to avoid.

In his local Vet beginner races he has plenty of time to check up though and the speeds are incredibly similar

The guy was standing up walking around hugging his dad. Then standing in line to board a plane home??  One tuf MFer!  Whats the big deal about this?  Yeah ugly crash but we’ve all seen way worse. This coming from someone who broke his neck at an Anaheim SX and had to be back boarded standing up - my idea cause I couldn’t bend forward to lay back down with out my spine impinging my spinal cord and causing me to convulse. I had to instruct my fellow riders and friends who had gathered to carry me across the infield cause the rookie ambulance workers bitd I felt were incompetent and kept bobbling the backboard pickup.  They wouldn’t let them and my dad had to physically restrain them while my friends carried me to ambulance.  Long story I just remembered sorry for the ramble.

Coop will be fine. If he bails next week expect to see him first round of outdoors. Unless he’s over it. Which I’ve expected him to announce all year last year when the going got rough. Flame away and dont get the thumbs up confused with the down

Amazed the medical crew let him up. Serious risk on a spinal injury on that crash. Seeing AC’s wheel just nail him made me sick, nothing AC could do about it.

You are right! It was shocking how the medical personnel immediately put him back stand up without thinking about the possible damage to the spine.
I understand that 'the show must go on'... but riders do the show. So treat them with care.
I remember with dread when during practice the young MX talent Brian Moreau had fallen heavily and the blow to his back was obvious. He on the ground insisted on being transported on a stretcher, but they had 'forced' him to stand up, helping him, and then they had seated him (yes seated!), behind the 'medical car'... the beating had ended up breaking the vertebrae resulting in leg paralysis for the rider.
Then they had apologised by saying that he didn't speak English well.
The problem is not the language, but the method of transport and the approach to the injured person.

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but as I have watched and rewatched that crash I have a hard time understanding why Adam did not see Cooper there and shut off. I really want to believe there was nothing Adam could do (as Ricky and James said on broadcast) but I do feel like he could have just shut off (with heat race consequences) to avoid hitting a fallen rider.  I really like Adam and I know there was no malice towards Cooper. However, Adam powered through the corner and he had to see Cooper there; just doesn't make sense. His front end even pushed under power into Cooper and then his rear end accelerated over Coopers back.

If this were Friese or Barcia hitting Cooper there would be pitchforks out for either of them.

You ever had someone crash in front of you before? Shit happens so fast

I feel like they always hurt the worst and you have that moment of should I try to blow as much speed as I can or should I get the front wheel up

Sometimes you can do more damage when running over someone by stopping or slowing as opposed to soft lofting your front and up weighting your rear as you roll over. Been on both ends of that, and one end recently…..sorry about your leg in that rut Shy I’m glad just bounceing over it with my clutch in worked out

I’m buying into the rumor that Coop is doing WSX. The first race is July 1st, so he has plenty of time to heal and get ready to go.

Schools started changing early 90s. Started getting the same "social studies" lessons every.single.year.

Remember RCs golden rule of MX racing?

If you can’t win, take someone out who can.

If you're a Spode and your riding at Spode speed around a Supercross track, you very likely could have avoided running over Cooper Webbs head, but 99.9999991 of us are Spodes and can't comprehend the speed these Top Pros are racing around a Supercross track.   Adam Cianciarulo was battling at the beginning of a Supercross race against other very fast Non-Spode racers and had a FRACTION! of a second to try to avoid hitting Cooper Webb.   Had it been me in Adam Cianciarulo's place in that turn, I would have had about 15 seconds to avoid running into him, but I'm not a fast guy and I ride at Spode Speed compared to AC9

When I saw it unfold, my first thought was Valentino Rossi and Marco Simoncelli!! What a relief when Coop stood up under his own steam.

I was thinking the exact same thing, MK.  Horrible flashback to one of the great tragedies in racing.

Praying for the best for Cooper - one of the toughest competitors in the sport.  Seeing him in the tunnel with his Dad after the accident shows how much this meant to him.

I’ll always be a fan and hoping for a full recovery.

Webb seemed ok giving a big hug to his Dad so hoping just banged up. Adam did nothing wrong but it did seem like he could have backed off for a millisecond. He never even slowed down...guess he was super focused on the race. And yes, I have raced for many, many years.

I like Webb. Was looking forward to the final battle between him and Eli but Cooper made a tactical error in judgment trying to attack Eli so hard, so quickly, in a HEAT RACE! Coop is usually the smartest racer out there but not at that moment yesterday.

We all make mistakes. Ironically, Webb even commented in an interview a few weeks ago that trying to get in Eli's head doesn't work with him so...save it for the main where it actually counts.

Watch the replay, you can clearly see Adam adjust course and try to avoid coop. He turns in tighter but just couldn't get clear.

That sucks. Love him or hate him SX is better with Webb in the battle.

Gonna be a Sexton, Tomac, Roczen podium for the rest of the season.

Did you make that up or did you actually hear Ricky Carmichael say that, because that would imply that RC was a dirty rider.   It's amazing some of the shit people make up to try and diminish the career of the greatest SX/MX rider of all time.

Just a silly move from a rider who is usually extremely smart and calculated. It was a heat race. No need for that. It cost him dearly.

There is no doubt Webb tried to rough up Eli and send a message in the first few turns. That didn't work out well for him.

I have heard RC say that more than once but he was one of the cleanest riders out there . I think he just liked saying the phrase more than anything lol

Wow. 4 down votes already.  When I raced, I also knew that if I crashed in front of the pack I would most likely get run over/run into.  I was not going to be upset at the riders who hit me.  It was MY FAULT for crashing at the front of the pack right after the start.  That was part of what makes racing dirt bikes so exciting.  I'm getting excited just thinking about it. BOOM BOOM BOOM goes the heart rate. pussies.

Says the one worried about downvotes.

Anyways, hope he recovers well. Tough dude, I'm sure he will.

I'm just glad that the incident has created opportunity for men to attack each other on the internet. I would have been crushed if everyone used it as an opportunity to show compassion and kindness.

I heard that on a podcast and have heard him and other journos joke about it multiples times since. That’s why I brought it up. I would never say that otherwise.  Like when he would pretend to jog with Jeanie or get busted by Mitch for eating in n out by smelling his fingers.  I thought that RC comment was common knowledge.  BTW he said it in a joking manner. Could’ve been a podcast with KW now that I think of it. Not sure but I heard it and I heard it being joked about in other pods.

me and my friends still bring it up and joke about it when appropriate. It was actually brought up and mentioned last night. That’s again why I mentioned it. You can and guess  when - Try and keep up

I agree. I honestly thought this crash was handled terribly. Watch any other contact sport and how something like that is handled. I feel MX is behind in how they treat crashes where someone head and neck could be injured. For some reason when this get's brought up everyone gets mad and comes at the person with pitchforks. I don't understand it. Everyone mobs against the promoters and whatnot when a guy isn't allowed to let fans rev his bike all day in the pits, but then see how the medic crew handles some of these crashes and you aren't allowed to criticize that. I just don't understand.
