They definitely should have moved it fwd vs delaying it. They dick around all night with fireworks shows, science of supercross, and 1000 commercial breaks dragging it out for 3 hours. It shouldnt have been that hard to trim all that bullcrap out and even cut out futures if need be… sorry kids but we got a pro race to put on. 

Could be a godsend for Tomac.  He is obviously not 100% after that digger.

So typically it is a 10 mile radius. In a full stadium it usually gets bumped to 30-50 as the new to allow for fans to evacuate. You have a large metal and concrete structure in an open area. It becomes the biggest lightning target. And they wouldn’t delay if it didn’t happen. Out of the promoters control 

Christ the people running our local district races could have gotten this show done and over with before the weather rolled in. This is embarrassing.

It's going to be over an hour before it passes, then what is it, likely 30 min after the last lightning strike within 25-30 miles before they're cleared? That was the rule for using cranes, I'd assume it's a similar rule across the board for liability.

Same storm hit my place a few hours ago. Super gusty winds with a ripper of a down pour. Only lasted maybe an hour. 

Thankfully I’m a raging alcoholic and was blacked out by the main events last week so it’s like a new race for me! 

Cells are moving south to north, which creates a training effect.  We may be done for the night. 
 

The forecast was known prior to the first gate drop. Do the rules allow for modifying the format?  Dropping the LCQs and moving the top 12 to the mains could have salvaged the evening.

Surely they use technology? Lightning tracker only shows a few hits anywhere near Rutherford? And they’re about 15km away.

because the current race is halted due to lightning issues. They're filling time

These things rarely go well.  The criteria for 'nearby' lightning is ridiculous.

I know this means nothing, but I think it would be a good idea to show a race from several years ago rather than the one that just happened last week. Maybe show the last time they raced at East Rutherford? Or some random round from 10-20 years ago that's been long forgotten?

I was at an outdoor concert years ago and it got shut down for lighting. They let the crowd of 25 k plus out and lightning struck the crowd. I think 3 people were injured and 1 died. Bad scene.

It's completely asinine that they could not make some adjustments to the program to have finished 1 hour earlier.  Heck the morans on the broadcast were talking about incoming weather from 1:30 onwards.

Cut out opening ceremonies, there's 1/2 hour.  Then cut Futures and maybe LCQ's and there's another half hour.
