300k a year is a lot more than 0k a year. These guys don’t need to be done so early, especially SX only. Fuck it roll around in 7th and get paid. Better than mowing the lawn.

He could go 3 more years will he? probably not.

It's a shame he didn't find this version of himself 5 years ago.

He's been talking retirement for about two years now. I don't see him going much longer unfortunately.

I’d bet Eli has been smart with his investments like reed was. I know at one point reed was worth something like 60 million.
I love watching tomac race, but I wouldn’t blame the guy for retiring at any time he feels like.

Anyone else think Eli is fired up from people saying he "wont beat Jett outdoors"? Then decides to race a full series to prove all the doubters wrong yet again.

I'd race as long as they're willing to pay for my time, JT$ mentioned in 2019ish that Chad was still pulling in 300k+ a year. That'll definitely be worth it 30 years down the road if invested wisely.

I'm guessing Eli is doing quite well and doesn't need the 300K a year.       Bet he'll step into some other form of racing after moto.

If it's motorized racing, chances are he'll be paying for it, not be paid for it..........

$300K is a lot of money for anyone short of 9 figure wealth.  The opportunities to earn that much money will decline for nearly all of the top pro motocross racers as time goes on.

He’s tite with someone at Porsche, so he gets to do ride days,  LeMans and The 24 hours at Daytona are pay to play, he said he won’t do that. Now if he finds someone to pay the bill, I’d imagine he jumps at it.

I think he’s fired up about the check Star cut to change his mind.

Honest question not trying to argue but why does everyone think it is a knock on an accomplishment to see someone race past their prime? It has no bearing on what they’ve already accomplished and if anything it is because of their accomplishments that they are afforded the opportunity to race well past their prime on good equipment. Then they get to leave when they choose which I think is all anybody could ask for. Just my two cents!

Man, the sport just has such a short memory when you’re only as good as your last race unfortunately. I want him to be remembered as the baddest dude, not a top 5 guy.

Plus imagine these posts if Eli wasn’t as competitive anymore. Look at the Kenny posts. Hell, look at Tom Brady’s last season. The fans can be quick to turn.

No one is saying Tom Brady sucks cause of last season 😂

But yes I understand your point and what I’m saying is I wish is wasn’t that way.

I think it's a pretty smart move to publicize his eagerness to retire. Gives Yamaha the incentive to reach a little deeper to pay a bigger salary for extra season extensions. In racing you're as good as your last race, and if you have a champ that wants to retire, you don't want him to retire.

His dad John raced bikes until he was 38-years-old. He announced his retirement in 2000 at the age of 33 but kept racing occasionally, winning Mammoth's Kamikaze downhill in 2004 and 2005, when Eli was 13-years-old.

Eli's son is almost 3 and his daughter is 1, so they're not about to need a race dad.

Eli is only 30, turning 31 in November.

Based on his injury history he probably has the health to compete for a lot longer if he chose to.

Justin Brayton raced until he was 38, winning Daytona in 2018 a few days before turning 35.

Chad Reed raced until he was 38, winning his last race at 33 and his last podium at the age of  37.

Eli is at his peak and appears to be enjoying racing more than ever. If he retires he will probably hate it. Like his dad, he is wired for racing and to stop early might result in him coming out of retirement anyways.

What do you guys think, could he possibly Ironman his way into another five or more years?

Nope!…I’ve been racing for 45 years and I’m still racing, but nope, no way, Tomac can’t race for several more years.  I mean, how could he?Dry

from the hip;  if he scores this season SX title (and 2 more SX main event wins) no reason to not call it a career SX-wise.....

and of course show this Chet Lawerenceson guy the short way around a MX track....  (yeah, I know how to spell it).....

how can ET3 not make the Mount Rushmore with those stats...........

I'm not a even a Tomac fan.. but even if he doesn't win a title this year some how.. i believe once he hangs it up, he will be top 3 of the greats.

i hope he does finishes this year off with a close title fight with Webb and we see a passing of the torch come outdoors to who ever young kid can keep up with him.

Seeing Tomac come alive the past year and smiling at the track, getting private flights with other riders. Been awesome to see him finishing up his career happy. Seems like his Kawi days and battling the Ryans burnt him out for a little there at one point

to be a MTB-er and MX-er from the 90s and to see John Tomac's son killing it...  it's pretty damn cool...

Now the NC boy in me does pull for Paul Webb too,but nothing would make my summer better than to see Tomac close out his career with a 5th MX title!  (and showing Chet how it's done)

sure seems "Epic"!

The Eli of the last few years doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that gets fired up over rumors, chatter and individual racers that may or may not pose a threat. He seems to always be very focused on the simple task of winning, and he enjoys it no matter who it's against or what people's expectations are.

I am a Reed superfan, like super superfan.. I don’t think he tarnished anything at all.. his name is in the record books already, people know what he has achieved.. I would rather see him battle for 10th than not see him at all.. especially when you see those flashes when he is riding well. He got his last podium at like 37 or 38 which I think is so badass.

I think we are seeing an inspired, best and final version of ET3. I know it’s a few years later than RC but this reminds me of him so much- knows where the finish line is, it’s not open ended and knows he has a finite amount of time to close out an amazing career.

Could Tomac race for several more years?
 Yeah nah.

Yeah we could see him do select races for several more years. At least I hope so.
Nah we won’t see him race full time for several more years.

I think he tries to win out and walk away. I would not be surprised to see him switch to racing Porsche Supercup type racing and see where it goes.
