Also every bike has a cam like F1?

Agree on the sound, adds so much atmosphere/excitement to clearly hear bikes accelerate into a triple out of a corner rather than just being buried in the audio mix. Ref the cameras, I have to assume you didn’t witness the abomination that was bike mounted cameras in WSX 😵‍💫

A change I would love to see is riders not getting hurt.

Leigh Diffy is ok don’t mind him. Although I think sometimes he yells too much. As a play by play announcer you do have to show emotion calling the races, but at times it seems like he’s always screaming.

i would love to see Daniel Blair in that seat. I think him and Weege are best in the business when it comes to play by play announcers.

FWIW, when I was at Eurosport they insisted on clear definition in the roles of commentators. Lead (Diffey, in the case of SX) is supposed to call the action and just that. The colour commentator (RC) should interject with expert analysis and interesting insight.  The colour commentator shouldn’t call the action.

Lead guys doing analysis and colour guys calling the action just gets messy.

When I performed colour, if I was talking when a pass was about to happen, I was supposed to back out and let lead back in to commentate on the pass.

Colour commentary is very difficult to do well. Mostly because you don’t know when lead is going to pause and let you in. You may have something in your mind about something a rider is doing on track, but if that rider is not in shot when you are let in, you can’t mention it. Having something in your head that’s interesting, relevant to what’s on screen, and ready to go at a moment’s notice is trickier than you might think.

In some ways, lead is a lot easier. You just describe what’s going on.

I wish the lead would actually describe what is going on…that doesn’t happen much.

I would like to see the story/article graphics on the front page of Vital MX changed. They are awful. It’s a bad look. It’s like someone in charge just learned Microsoft Paint. Seriously. And I’m not trying to be a jerk. It’s just a bit of constructive criticism. For whatever it’s worth!

Yells too much, yes, he is a screamer. He was tough to listen to when he was calling F1 racing on NBCSports.

Diffy is horrible, anyone would be a improvement over him.

Voice is Horrible Very irritating seems fake. Why would anyone with a voice that bad think screaming in a broadcast is a good idea. And stop with the I think this is original stupid lines. You Suck Big Time. I can’t stand 3 seconds of him.yeah I know there Targeting more Soft Bros but I think there’s enough already.  I grew up with hearing a strong Dutch accent the other side was Indian. So accents don’t bother me but his voice ew so bad. I hear Eastern European accents every day from my coworkers in the office or I call E.E.  Hire a Eastern European chic there accents r beautiful and everything they say sounds interesting.  Or hire me I won the sexy voice championship 15 consecutive times. At least I would get 50 million chics to tune to hear me.  And No blinding fire for the start . We can’t see the bikes.

I thought the screen graphics were OK. I don't think they should do the "250 main" overlay as the guys go over the start. Turn it off for a second while the pack starts. I think the rider specific callout is cool (yes I know it messed up). The callout would be best used to highlight the top guys on the start where I may have trouble discerning whos where for a few seconds, but I don't need it when the riders are separated.

The commercials (yes I know they are necessary) at first drove me crazy - but I don't think any racing was compromised. Just felt incredibly long and was going to bleed into the race schedule. Makes me miss MXGP-TV; I'd pay more to just get more real coverage.

Commentary was OK, didn't detract from the races but certainly didn't standout.

Speaking of commercials, did anyone else see repeat commercials on Peacock of a body lotion brand that was being promoted by black female women?  I did...

Idiots.

You're not going to buy a solar garage light so you can change the oil in you truck at 9:00pm?

So far this post has 2 thumbs down.  I am beginning to question why I would want to hang out in a forum with anyone that would even contimplate a thumbs down regarding one of the most beautiful women that have ever existed on earth.  Just shaking my head.

This thread is classic. You guys crack me up. "I'd like to hear the bike's engine on the way to a triple" "Diffy is horrible and too loud" "I wish the lead would actually describe what is going on…that doesn’t happen much" "No blinding fire for the start we can’t see the bikes."

Same guys saying real men would race Oakland, just lay out some cones and make it the "Oakland Oval Mud Race."

Bunch of characters you guys are. If they do run it and it's a shitshow and ruins your favorite riders title hopes, will be the same ones complaining that they ran it.

You hv to admit the blinding fire on the start is a bit circus like. If I where a rider I would shut the gas off. Think about the odd ball that hits the fire button, kinda strange.  What next bengal  tigers jumping threw fire rings or elephants with monster energy logos performing tricks. Leave the fire to the end of the race  to burn some cars and buildings in cellabration.

I actually didn't realize it was you I was quoting, your a funny dude with quality posts. So I apologize. But a lot of the fans are there for the show including the fire works, flames and big jumps etc. If it somehow gets pulled off I will be amazed.

I think the starts take up to much floor space and sand has no place in supercross. I don't think the commentators are excited enough it's like that not even watching the race, I'm shouting at TV calling things way before they do. They just flat out ignore some of the passes and crashes. Also way is it never rider error "it looks like his bike malfunctioned" no it looks like his brain malfunctioned. Also we should have a supermoto round or end of season race

LIke I said in the other thread:

My biggest gripe with the broadcast is that the people who are supposed to be calling the race, don’t call the race…they talk about pretty much everything but the race-unless something big happens.  “I talked to-whomever-in the pits and…”…”I was watching him really close in practice and…”  “at dinner last night we were talking about…”  “he’s come a long way from the farm in the Midwest, and his family put everything on the line to get him here…” pretty much anything but what is actually happening on the track…

is the racing so boring that they can’t just talk about the racing happening on the screen?  Call it as though they are talking to someone that can’t actually see what is happening.  Do that, with some genuine enthusiasm, and I think we’d all stop complaining about commentators.

Bring back Langston and Weigandt as announcers. Best ever race announcing since Art Eckman and David Bailey. They always catch what a racer sees going on. They actually notice a jump no one has done all day. Then see someone in the background send it, make up time and they actually announce it.

I'm a bit late but here is what I would like:

Calling the race. The entire race. I don't think they zoned in on any guys past 10th place once the entire night (unless I missed it somehow). Show guys moving through the pack.

Get sounds from the floor.

Get go-pro or F1 style FPV view. Just don't try to use the system World Supercross did.

Have someone else do Race Day Live with Blair. I think Blair was even getting sick of it.

Weigandt please! I agree, at least one of those guys that can call the action clearly.

Are you really saying that the social media segment added any value to the broadcast?

No one cares about seeing dogs wearing jerseys, people sitting on their bike in the garage, etc.

I agree with Mav on this one. I can look at dumb social media posts by myself, I don't need the race to show it to me too. Plus, Juliana is a pretty woman but she was always wearing jackets with collars so there really wasn't too much to get excited about.. They could have had a small team of analysts reviewing passes or something cool from the previous heats and LCQs.

Bin those crappy rider names / arrow things vaguely following them around, literally the dumbest thing I have seen on any of these broadcasts, and we've seen some dumb shit over the years.

Also, how and why is it sooo hard to stop filming someone rolling around at quarter pace while other guys are still putting in fast laps in qualifying? I don't need to watch a full slow lap of one guy feeling out the track while others are on a heater. Same goes for races when, as an example, we watch Jett riding around out front on his own at 75% effort (rightly so, smart riding) for ages when there are passes going on further back. This is probably the worst trait of theirs imo and it happens way too often.

Remember watching Zacho with a puncture Outdoors in 2020(?) lap after lap? Just switch to someone else...

Better audio mixing and directional mics. The production quality seems to improve incrementally every year, but they took a step back this year in the audio quality.

There are better things they could've shown during that time.

I think some might be confusing my post between "her segment was useless " vs "she's useless" which are two different things.

She served a purpose, so she clearly wasn't useless, but the purpose she served was not needed.

I have no issues with her. I just don't see any reason to bring her back or anyone else for that segment.

If they want to bring someone on that adds value to the broadcast, sure, have at it, but leave the useless social media segment out if it. It's not needed.

Not to whine, but if I could change anything, it might be the fact that the track ruts out so quickly that they have to have the National Guard on standby to grade it after a group five riders blast through a corner.

It's either the bikes, or the dirt. Fix one of them.

Might have something to do with less lime in the coconut.

Less cookie cutter obstacles. I watched a few  races from 1980 to 2000 yesterday on YouTube with my kid. Things sure were different besides the fact that it sounded cooler.
