Why was Malcolm allowed back on the bike?

With what we know about concussions, does supercross not have a “spotter” to spot riders that have been potentially concussed. Maybe I’m being pu$$y? just seemed like he shouldn’t have been allowed back on the bike. Great night of racing!

He sure looked unstable on his feet but I never saw him take a hit. He landed quite smoothly down the rear side of that jump.

If you watched the replay, it didn’t really look like he hit his head much at all and basically rolled out of the crash as best as possible. To me, it looked like he got up right away and was getting his bearings straight because he just crashed and tumbled at a high rate of speed as he was working his way back to the bike. Being dizzy after spinning like that is normal. I think it would be worrying if he was lying there motionless for a period of time and then came back to and stumbled back towards his bike.

Look like the Medical guy that helped him off the track made sure he didn't re-enter the race to me.

He's listed last with 17 laps, so maybe they flagged him?

Like I said I hate to be that guy lol. But you watch sports like the nfl and they pull you off the field if you’re wobbly etc after a hit. Maybe he was just stunned a little from the crash.

The medic looked like he needed a concussion test also. He was falling everywhere and drawing mookie down.

How do they determine what crash allows you to continue to ride or not? There’s no replay in real life. What if Malcolm didn’t have a large impact to his head or hit it at all? Or what if his helmet did its job and prevent a concussion.

I’d be pissed if I had a crash, got up wobbly trying to gather my thoughts and some guy is telling me I’m not allowed to continue riding and the medical assessment afterwards confirms no concussion or hitting of head. These asterisk guys have an extensive medical background but it seems their decision making isn’t consistent. All hypothetical.

It was just weird seeing that asterisk guy hold Mookie back preventing him from getting to the back and kept dragging Mookie down. Not a good look

I thought it looked like the medic was trying to usher Mookie back to the other (safer) side of the track, away from the racing line. But he was determined to get to his bike. I’ll have to watch it again.

Just stop. If you want to get back on your bike and finish a race why should anyone have the authority to stop you if you didn’t take a dirt nap. This trying to control people and limiting their freedom has got to stop

Agreed. It's a fine line to determine if a guy is good to go or not. Malcolm seemed fine to me imo(I was drinking beer and a few Tequila shots). Just like the Bills vs Bengals game the other week, these guys know the sport is violent and some time shit happens. Mookie knew that a dnf in the first round is not the way to start a new season and wanted to get as many points as possible. This isn't the NFL with a blue tent on the sidelines to get checked out during a game. Did the guy stopping him from getting to his bike have any medical training to make that call?

I think they were tripping on the ruts.

Just a shame he hit neutral or whatever the issue was. Wanted a good result for Mookie.

I think when he went to stand up he stood in one of those deep ruts on the face of the upramp and that caused him to look like he was dazed worse than he was. Pure speculation tho.

He seemed fine from the TV view to me too. I believe the point is the administrators of the sport should go to lengths that are needed to keep this sport safe. I am all for self-responsibility, but a lot of pro SX racers are not geniuses, nor in race situations a good judge of their own condition. Most of these riders have no high school education, have been sponsored in some way or another by multi-billion dollar international companies since self- awareness, are being watched by millions of viewers, and racing is all they have been taught and all they know to validate their self-worth. They are in a crucible and their judgement for their own safety is obviously impaired. We have all ridden hurt, but I really don't think any of us normal riders can understand the lengths a pro would go to perform.

Helmets prevent brain damage, not concussions. A concussion happens when your brain bounces around inside your skull. The helmet doesn’t hold your brain in place. Also, plenty of concussions happen in contact sports without an athlete’s head hitting the ground.

Yep, the stupid guy wouldn’t let him go to get on the bike. Malcolm had to push him off.

Ok get off your couch, spin as fast as you can 3 times and try to spot your bike and stand up. As others mention I think it this and not the ladder of a concussed. rider.

Any idea what caused the crash? Did he hit neutral, did something mechanical cut out? It looked like the bike just lost forward momentum for some reason and dropped the front end.

He was tripping in the ruts on the lip of the jump, then the medic fell in the same rut and pulled Malcolm down, making it look like he was staggering.

100% agree!!! This shouldn't be a topic. But this is Vital heh .Alpinestars Medics can't tackle a guy who is trying to get back in the race like Malcom did last night. Malcom showed the toughness he's always had and got back on to get the points he could for him and his team. You can't stop a man with a heart like that... I think he got taken down by a neutral or something. Not a mental error which also sucked. He looked fantastic last night and showed the heart to win!!! Great Guy in our sport right there

If it was a fuel pump like Chad's crash, team Austria is going to have  figure out wtf is going on.
