Of decisions like this?

Sorry if this has been discussed, I have not seen any talk of it.

For years riders have complained about too many races and not enough of an off season.

Well after a historic weekend by the American Team to regain the coveted Peter Chamberlain Trophy 🏆,  they come up with this insane schedule!

So if any of our top racers who are in this new championship series and are also on the Moto D team how is that going to work out?

They will have no time to prep, the race is the NEXT WEEKEND!

Am I missing something it just kinda irks me after the American team including all the behind the scenes people who made changes and spent EXTRA TIME, MONEY & RESOURCES to give our guys the same treatment the top Euro Teams have been doing for years. Every bit helped as Red Budd was no walk in the park.

So now the next weekend they fly straight to France to compete in what to me is the most Prestigious event in Motocross and unless you have been to one you won't fully understand.

Who makes these decisions?Sick

There should be a MINIMUM two weeks before the MotoD.

Poll

Is this schedule OK with you guys?

This isn't about racers and racing, It's the entertainment business, the racing is a side story. If it's too much for rider A, ride B will be there. Ticket sales won't change much. The riders need to and are making the choice's of when and where to ride. Because as long as there's money to be made. there will be a "race" scheduled.

The Ken Roczen vs Honda spat and ultimately the break up proved otherwise.

But I do agree on the second point, it's the greedy promoters who just want to line their pockets and could care less about the riders.

So you're OK now with money being more important than riders representing our Country at an Olympic event like the Motocross des Nations?

Unless they change the schedule down the road I do not see any way the US team can win this event.

That is more important to me anyway than a supercross race at the Coliseum.

It's only one more race in reality when you see they removed an outdoor race and the Monster Cup is gone.  They also said it will not go this late in the year after this season due to availability of the stadium etc.  All of the riders I have heard are in support of this.  Terrific TV package, much larger payouts and and great overall series. As far as MXoN, it does not factor in to most riders and is really just an MXGP with Americans there.  This year the MXGP champ and a bunch of others didn't bother to show up.  Riders don't get paid for that either.  Is it cool?  Hell yes.  Does it make a difference if their actual job conflicts.  Nope.

I think the whole idea is to NOT have a gap between the end of our series and the MXDN. That way they will be prepped from the race the week before, and the weekend before that, and the weekend before that, and their season will only be extended one extra week rather than 4 or 5….but what do I know?

Final race in the US is the 14th Oct and the MXoN's Starts on the 20th Oct with the finals on Sunday the 22nd.

That's a fucking lame schedule when you look at the travel time for the US riders which I would assume they will depart the US on Sunday eve the 15th. One is looking at around 30 hrs travel to arrive at final destination.

That means Tuesday and Wednesday to try and get testing in and maybe some testing on Thursday but I reckon the guys will need a break on Thursday.

I'm guessing that the "Powers" will push the MXoN's to the 27th - 29th.

If they dont then I'd expect the US to have a hard time finding "willing" top tier riders to represent.

The race before the Moto D is supercross not sure how that prepares you for the motocross des nations.

Don't they also usually go over there at least a week in advance to get use to the bikes in that environment and they're allowed to run different fuel if I remember correctly.

So wouldn't they need to test for that as well?

Throw in a potential win/ end of a long season celebration in the US, as well as some jet lag after the travel and I don’t think it’s fair to the riders or teams to have to lineup a few days later at what I also think is the most prestigious event in motocross.

There was a good opportunity here to straighten things out, and it appears that’s been missed at this stage. Hopefully the calendar looks better for all involved in 2024.

You don't have to go to Europe to test fuel. I'd assume the US can dial their bikes using the Euro spec fuel before shipping their bikes across.

I'm on the fence. I used to think less races would be better, but with a bigger payout, not sure how I feel.

EDIT: I would just make SMX part of the two series we have now with  a final round after MX. Make it a triple crown, or even 5 rounds. Something like 2 rounds of SX that count towards SMX and 2 rounds of MX that count towards SMX and then a final round.  I would also adjust the schedule so they are done racing before MXoN.

This is the only year it will happen as late as it is....the riders actually prefer that the MXDN be close to the end of the season...

Not sure why everyone on Vital hates supercross, for me its the most exciting. At night so you can hangout have some beers with your buddies and watch it and talk shit and the format really lends itself to a build up to the main event. I love MX as well but usually I have it playing in the garage while I do bike maintenance or wash bikes Saturday afternoon or Im out riding.

I dont think the riders will mind having more races and less prep time for MXON, they rather race the races that pay the bills at the end of the day. MXON is awesome but I dont think even the riders put it up as high as representing your country in the Olympics or something like that. Id guess that in the US the amount of people watching supercross is 10 fold that tune in to watch MXON.

I think its dumb to add new races during their off time. Not enough time to vacation, get a new bike, test and figure it out in 2 months before January again..

On a side note: Who TF calls Des Nations "Moto D"? It was never that, and will never be named that.

I’m just bummed that we lost a round of the nationals with only 11 rounds of outdoor motocross

One of the rounds for SMX will be in Charlotte and will be very much like the MXGP that was held there...

The only part of the posted schedule I don't like is the 3-week gap before the SMX final.  And I don't love the 2-week break between each "playoff" round.

I asked Davey Coombs a very similar question. Here's his answer:

Hi Rick, we spoke with MXGP and the MXoN organizer InFront about the conflict and they agreed to move the date of the '23 MXoN to October 21, one week after the SMX finale. Moving forward, we will end in September and the MXoN will likely be the first weekend in October.

As for WSX, I don't think they will have many of the MXGP teams, so I'm not sure they are factored into the MXoN equation, nor do I think any of the top motocrossers from Europe will participate, as they all passed on the pilot season.

A few points:

1. The fact that you use the term "MotoD" makes your post irritating to most everyone here. Please submit a retraction and apology. Adding an affirmation to never do that again would be a bonus.

2. Where have you been? This schedule was announced and discussed months ago. Please review.

3. The Motocross des Nations is important, but not more important than the sanctity of the Nationals.

Well, to put a positive spin on it, think of it as losing one of the Pala rounds.

There is more going on than what you see here. (Vital).

About half to 2/3rd of the way through the SX season, most riders are already testing for outdoors.
