If I could vote twice and along with my dead relatives (all the rage these days).....the answer is "Not retire" The sport is better with him in it.
I would just like to say that I am not a hater. I think there’s been some dumb moves on his part, mostly the Mookie one this year, but I don’t have an opinion either way. Just curious what the forum thinks.
So Barcia retires and rubbing/take outs stop? Is that what we are thinking?

Do people only hate the aggressive riders so much in moment? What will opinions be in say 10 years? Bradshaw, Johnson, Chicken and so on are pretty well respected and revered these days. Makes me wonder if the same will happen to Barcia.

He is still a podium level guy, of course we need him. The dude is a racer pure and simple, always throws down. His past has been colourful no doubt, but he is no schmuck.
I agree that it has. I guess I didn’t consider that by making this post I’m creating an environment that encourages the beating of a very dead horse… I figured it has been a while since SX, so I imagined the tension would at least have calmed down a bit and a decision could be made here without emotional involvement. So far it’s looking good for him with the majority preferring he lines up a few more years.
Like him or not it's interesting to have him around . I'd like to see him continue even if he ends up in WSX .
One would think after all the years he could make a clean pass. Seems like the last couple of years he got worse. He hasn’t done himself any favors with his take um out style. His style doesn’t do any good keeping a ride or getting a new one. He is on his last year with GG. I bet if he get a ride in 2024 it’s a low end Yellow bike.
Justin Barcia is an elite level racer of the highest order. For real, the fact that we’re even having this survey is absurd. This is a pro athlete and one of the most talented. And he can absolutely win a race / even go on a tear if things go right.
I don't think the sport depends on his participation. If he's there it's good, if he's not, someone will take his place.
One thing is for sure, we get to know how certain riders perform, we like them, dislike them, or like to dislike them.
We are excited to see the riders we know but, there are always faster riders coming up the ranks. We'll find new drama to follow and we'll have new favorite riders to like, dislike, or like to dislike.

I just can’t stand the fact that he can’t take what he dishes out. At times the guy is like a pinball out there but as soon as someone does something to him he freaks out.
Let’s look at the truth…
He WAS 3rd in the points…and he had 4 podiums…wait…didn’t he have MORE than that, didn’t he?
But, he had points, positions(podiums?), money…ALL taken away for riding like an ASS on far too many occasions.
Yet, and I’m thinking that I’ve got a few of us “Old Dudes” that feel this way, the SX folks have a system in-place…& that system is what took all that stuff away from Justin. So, what happened to Justin Barcia kinda proves that…

Look, we all know I’m in El Hombre’s corner. Period. And, IWAS PISSED when JB51 cleaned Jason TF-OUT last season. Hell, I can even put some of it in Jason’s lap…he should have been more “alert” or AWARE that a shit-show was coming…but, we all know what happened. Jason ended up on the ground thru and INTENTIONAL CLEAM OUT by JB. Well, that’s OK. Shit that goes around, comes around.
So, Let Justin Race & let the officials…and maybe even the other racers…handle it.
Well, he’s nothing like Friese or MA800 (blatant t-bone on Tickle). Or Zach Osborne taking out (can’t remember rider) for the 250 title, or Tyler Bowers…
He is an ass, but as long as the officials handle it.
I don't need his drama to enjoy watching the sport. I respect the battles of championship contenders, not the antics of guys that may or may not get a couple podiums per season. And I especially don't enjoy it when a potential battle between championship contenders is prevented by guys that are obviously slower riding overly aggressive.
Call me soft, I don't care. Barcia was hardly a factor at all in the actual racing of the 2022 MX season and it was the best outdoor season I've seen in many, many years. I simply don't get anything out of watching him ride when the likes of Eli Tomac, Chase Sexton, Jason Anderson, etc are actually racing for something meaningful other than clout and 4th place in points.

It's great that's he will be out there in 2023.
He is a solid top 10 guy, with a wild riding style and a give it all, and some riding style.
It would be interesting to see him on the green machine. Maybe he and AC9 could swap

Say whatever you want about Barcia, but you can’t deny he’s had some great rides through his career at a level few get to and he’s exciting to watch.
The brain farts are a little too regular, however the sport needs characters and he’s certainly that.
I can think of a few races in the last couple years that would’ve been BETTER if he wasn’t in it. I’ve seen plenty of races get less exiting when he cleans someone and they’re out of contention for the race. I’d love to see the others get a little pay back before he fully retires…but let’s be honest he retired from being a legit title contender the day he moved up to 450. He’s just been a violent side note other than the odd A1 streak. I’d love to hear that this is indeed his last year at the end of it when he disappoints again.

He had mentioned possibly racing MXGP. I would like to see him over there mixing things up.
Does he have questionable moves on other riders? Yes, but he still brings competition and is a great rider.
I think he has since said he doesn't want to do that . My prediction is he will end up in WSX assuming it's still going after this season
Does he add anything to the sport by being in contention for wins, and a championship points battle ??
No.
Without going into his history of deliberate take downs, he routinely ruins the races of riders who do consistently have the ability for winning races and championships by being nothing more than a roadblock.
Blowing out a race by giving anyone fortunate enough to get through the first turn in front of him a huge gap, that on the SX tracks of today, is almost impossible to make up.
And that ain't racing.
But the sport is stuck with him until he retires.
