I mean ping has made it pretty clear that bigotry/racism is not a deal breaker when it comes to putting his support behind someone.

because the comment was that hannah would kill anyone FOR THE WIN.

JB and VF are not winning a damn thing. Outside of Barcia's A1 random victories or an outlier national. So those guys pinballing around the track are not at all comparisons to Hannah's aggressive style as he was fighting for yet ANOTHER championship.
If you ever saw Hannah ride you would see that he was willing to kill himself to win. I don't recall him riding like Friese or Barcia as a matter of course. His part in the Saddleback Massacre (I was there) is considered legendary

I enjoyed the video. Excellent. Bob old school. Calls it like he see it. Likely 100% correct. Cowboy. “First or last” bobs motto. Todays man is soft, sensitive. Why in other forums Ukraine, they are calling people Nazi.. I a, surprised they didn’t discuss the deal with pentons and the hipoint boot deal, and throw in the Quilted blanket. Lol. Wasn’t going to sign boot deal, unless they threw in a quilted bed blanket…..would have been interesting when Bob was talking contract money in the managements office……. Silence………… show me the money…..🥃👍

Just because you can be offended by something doesn’t mean you have to be.

Hannah sounded like a blowhard with chips on both shoulders. Real confidence is quiet.

Every generation says the next generation is weak. Don’t think you’re unique or clever doing it.

I respect those dudes for riding the bikes they did and going as fast as they did. They were fast and loose. I also respect the current riders for what they do, the speed and risk is way gnarlier now.

First of all, let me say this... I'm a 58-year-old Vet rider. I am 100% a fan of Hannah. He seems incredibly self-aware, as evidenced by how he calls himself out on multiple occasions. Am i offended by anything he said in the interview? Absolutely not. I just find it odd how some are offended by the term "Jap", but none of them are offended by the word "Broad'? He referred to multiple women by this term, but somehow these guys are selectively offended. Again, I thought the guy was great in his interview. But this being selectively offensiveness is odd. Are you really offended, or just trying to view yourself as "Woke", and the movement hasn't made its way to Women just yet?

Awareness creeps at a pretty slow pace.

One step at a time.

I listened to the whole thing on a drive, thought it was good. I got to ride with Bob a lot in Bean canyon in the early 80s, and what you got was exactly how I remember him. The word Jap was probably the least offensive thing he said, I’d probably worry more about how he talked about women.

One thing you need to know, the motocross industry in his time referred to the Japanese guys as the japs, literally everyone said it. Plus, he’s what, 62? I fairly certain his dad would’ve used the term too, my dad did.

You have to know what you get with a guy like that, someone who literally cares about no one but himself, and will say whatever is on his mind, if you’re soft, it will offend you.

I finally watched the whole show last night. On one hand I understand how a lot of younger people would be thrown off by the way Bob speaks. He wasn't politically correct back then and now he must be really blowing some minds. The dude is the genuine honest to God authentic real deal. Take him or leave him he has never and will never change. Political correctness aside Bob is one of the icons of a sport he rarely even thinks about these days. Think about that. He has done so much in his lifetime since racing that it is amazing. The attitude that made him a terror on and off a motocross track has served him well in life. It is amazing how as a long-haired skinny ass desert rat he went from not even riding on a motocross track to National Champion in like two years. He showed up out of nowhere and beat Americas first superstar and it was on from there. Take him or leave him he is an amazing dude.

Bob Hannah was my hero when I was a kid. I had just turned 12 when he broke his leg and I remember reading it in the Cycle News and being absolutely gutted. Even as a kid I loved the brash attitude and the way he said anything. The problem is brash say anything young men become curmudgeons when they get to a certain age. he's also kind of a weird dude, says he was only in his best friend's house 2 times.

Bottom line, he is still an all-time great, and I like listening to him because he is an interesting dude, but I would not want to deal with him on a daily basis. If I worked with him, we would fight. lol

i'm assuming Bob does not mind being called a honky or cracker, if he has no issue calling others Japs.... but.. if he is not down with being called a buckra or peckerwood... he probably shouldn't use derogator words for other races...

it isn't 1945 anymore.... using such terms is extremely low level behavior and is not excused by his-story....

I'm ok with being called peckerwood

I think it would be yank not honky or cracker. Your analogy is off. Many of these terms we threw around in the past were not in the name of blatant racism ie they were not meant as a hateful or derogatory term. Our society has been duped by the woke movement, the needle has swung way the hell to far.

The whole interview with Hannah is far more LESS offensive than rap music.

We have a President who eliminates potential VP's based on the color of their skin and gender. Our President also eliminated supreme court justices on the color of their skin and gender and was vocal about it. What exactly is wrong with the Hannah interview?

There it is.

And it is pansies, not pansy's. That really gets my panty's in a bunch.

We live in a world that is so safe, so prosperous, so watered down, and so tame, that there are people who actually find that interview racist and offensive? SMH The amount of devolution occurring in our society never ceases to amazing me. The Hurricane's shear willpower alone makes him a legend. Can you imagine hearing about Eli running 12 miles and doing 2 45 minute motos EVERYDAY for 21 straight days to prep for MXoN? Yeah, me neither. It's too bad some of you are so caught up in your social programming that you miss the epicness of a guy like Bob. David Goggins explains this phenomenon often. Long live the Hurricane!!

I'm finishing up listening to the podcast and it's unbeliveable! Classic Bob Hannah! No truer words have been spoken. He's the same now as he was then. Great show guys! You did a greta job bringing the Hurricane to the show.

Holy shit.... the first part of your post.... nails it.

The cRap music people are putting to their riding videos are FAR worse than anything Hannah has ever said.

Japs is no different than calling someone a Britt, Jew or Aussie etc. and if someone is offended by it , who cares. They are just looking for a reason to be offended.

Merriam-Webster dictionary definition:

Jap
noun or adjective
disparaging + offensive
: JAPANESE

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/Jap

Saying something objectively offensive, by definition, is the issue.
Not who is offended.

If you don't care about offending all Japanese people, that says more about you than it does about who is offended.

OK, I was wrong. I listened to the entire show, and I enjoyed it. Hannah comes out the gate a bit strong, then he seems to chill. I'm a libtard myself and at no point was I offended.

LOL!

As someone who grew up with red hair, freckles, chicken white skin, and Coke bottle glasses racing a motorcycle in the Deep South during the 60's...none of those weak ass epithets would even phase me.

Some of us grew up on the phrase "Sticks and Stones may break my bones...but WORDS can never hurt me!"

Bob also has no F's to give. If he was a musician he would sound like this guy.

Probably in part a manufactured story. I would never pull ovr 4 anyone.I,m sure after the race the team would b pissed , I would throw the bike on the ground and quit. I would hv it in my contract that I will never pull ovr for anyone. Purposely loose is dishonoring your sport, he did it twice. I,m sure Grant remembers Steve Boniface in 01 Millville said he wouldn’t pull ovr for Grant and that I,m here to win if anything I,ll put him on the ground if I hv a chance. His bike was loaded into the truck and not allowed to race. I was a basketball Star to win a game with 1 sec left. I had to hit the 1st free throw and purposely miss the 2nd and bounce it off the rim and hopefully hv a team mate put it in. A lot diff than my usual game winning shots. Of course my coach calls a time out and tells me the play. I thought it was in a way cheating the game but it’s a legal play. I even asked that’s legal rt ? All my teammates telling me I got to hit the 1st one ovr and ovr. If your going to miss 1 it will b the 1st. I shot 92%. I go to the line the other coach calls a time out. I hear it all again. I tell them repeatedly I don’t miss big shots, etc and say who I want in the 2nd spot on the rt
Jump at the rim when the ball hits it. Finally I get to the line spot the ball dribble 3 times bend knees after each dribble wipe the sweat off my hands onto my long socks. Repeat 3 times it takes aprox 2-3 min . I 1st did that 1 time when I was out of breath, the ref didn’t call delay of game so I kept doing it. Staff video taped me and showed players . The rules where changed where you can’t do that in hs bball added a time limit. Anyway 1st one was all net felt perfect leaving my hand actually u feel it threw your whole body. The 2nd is tricky because I hv to do my routine outerwise the 6,7 dude will easily block out my guy. But I did it hit the rim on the rt corner my guy caught it and tapped it in. We went nuts everyone stormed the court. At the line you could hv heard a pin drop. Strange way to win.

I never thought he was ovr doing it. All riders r cocky because it’s used for a confidence boost. Or if they speak honestly, that’s all Bob’s doing. Go to a locker room at 1/2 time at a hs bball game. You,ll hear i,m on no one in the world can stop me etc. Mx was just picking up steam in 76 it needed a face that was Bob. His DG ride was because he was a Cal bro. Not much for results b4 that. Then the Yamaha contract, pretty easy back then. But he,s a Smart buisness man to pull the marketing stuff , probably just having fun and have it happen by accident. 76 was perfect timing Marty is racing out dated bike in the US. And in Europe he,s racing a type 2 diff bike and having a lot of problems etc. Marty was burnt out racing both series - easy but not easy guy to beat. So that’s a great starting point. We Liked hearing the stories his celebrations, etc. Bob stayed late after races signing and hanging with the fans so he was cool . I bet it weird for Bob to talk about Mx. I hear people say I hear you where quite the basketball star 500k offers at 15 quite a few d1 offers. I,m ovr it but shocked people remember back to 1983.
