Speaking of Jeff boots, there's a guy's on eBay selling them for $180.00 shipped.
Has anyone on this forum bought a pair? The guy has good feedback but this seems a little sketchy.

Probably the only one on here to say this but I've had a great experience with the Acerbis X-Move 2.0 boots. Welt construction, replaceable Vibram soles, hinged angle and fairly quick break in, also won't break the bank. They have their X-Rock-MM model which looks to be a SG-12 copy, but I don't have any personal experience with that one.

I wore tech 10s for five seasons straight. Then bought a pair of sg12 and now realize tech 10 boots are very uncomfortable, heavy and wear out extremely quick. Never again will I buy tech 10. I do however like the instinct boot and wear that on race day as for some reason I race better in a boot with more flex forward and back. Nothing is more sturdy and comfortable than the sg12 for me though.

I had a good get off this last Sunday. 3rd gear sweeper, mid-day, I took a different line that looked pretty well used, not wet / watered, but right at the bloody last second of the exit of the sweeper, my rear caught a hidden hard/slick spot and broke loose when I was hard on the gas, and caught and hooked 2 seconds later. Sent the bike flying one direction as the tire caught a hook, and me the totally opposite direction, at which point, my left leg got stuck in the right rear of the bike under the muffler as my bike went flipping.

When everything stopped I was laying there with my leg still stuck in the bike, doing a mental check for what hurt and my knee felt a little rough, and I could tell I had an impact to my lower shin, but I was shocked my leg was not tore to shit. The reason I am saying this, I have 100% faith my SG12s with good knee protection played a big role in that. One other thing about the SG12, it is about 1.5:" taller than a Tech 10 (I have both), the extra length/stability could also have kept me from breaking my tib/fib.

If I was unsure about my SG12s before, I am not anymore. They are heavy and take just as much time as a Tech10 to break in, but the trade off is well worth it.

Please educate me on this topic. I like that Gaerne and Sidi are still crafted in Italy. I'd like to know the details about where Tech-10's are made.

They are made in Croatia. I’ll have to double check on Tech 7’s though as I haven’t looked in a while.

I’ve had most through the years, but I liked SG10 even better than SG11 ( only made them a year or two) or SG12s. My current boots are Gaerne Fastback boots. Even though they are their cheaper boots, they remind me of the 10s I liked so well.

SG12 by far the best compared to tech 10. Switched from mx to trail riding . Tech 10 gives me sore toes after 150K rides. Also for that price they are shit soles! SG12 take longer to break in but its a no brainer ! Even my mom says the SG12 are better when she cleans them . I would def wanne try the sidi atojo :-) :-)

So are SG12s lighter or heavier that tech 10s? Some say yes, some say no.

Currently wearing Tech 7's, they are the nicest and most comfortable boot I've ever had. The soles did wear out very quick though and unfortunately I couldn't find any soles in stock in the states. Ill probably be trying another brand next year.

Tech 10 is easier to walk around but in weight I think theyre heavier with inner boot...

Glad to see everyone finally acknowledging the tech 10s as dogshit in this thread.

Alpinestars just... doesn't make good products. Boots fall apart, helmets fall apart.

Best boots? Probably Acerbis X-Rock boots. Basically Gaerne SG-10 with Vibram soles.

I just weighed my Tech10s and my my SG12s, both size 8. The SG12s are exactly 1 pound heavier per boot than the Tech10s. I only ever notice the weight difference when I pick them up by hand honestly.

Kind of amazed by the astar bashing in this thread. The tech 10 for me was actually more comfortable than my SG12s and regarding wear if you ride on the balls of your feet like you’re supposed to they actually seem to being doing better than my SG12s. I did notice they run small is my only complaint. Regarding the atoyos I had them a month and gave them to a buddy. They murdered my ankles for some reason.

Berik. Went through a pair every two months but they were the most comfortable things I’ve ever put on my feet.

My last pair of astars where the OG tech 8’s from the late 90’s. When I got back into riding I searched and basically a thread like this pointed me towards the SG12’s. I bought these at the end of 2017. I ride only moto and it’s pretty much been every weekend since 2017 (hour meters on the bikes are around 160 hours total). This is them as of last Sunday. You can tell I’m all over the place when I ride with the majority being the balls of my feet. These are size 11, I normally wear a 10/10.5 and they were a little big in the toe box, but so were my tech 8’s. I just got a new set of SG12’s yesterday in a 10.5 since they offer half sizes now. I’m more then happy with how they held up compared to my buddies tech 10’s.

I do wish they made them in white and black like my old set tho.

Tucker has 4 pairs of these in stock in 10.5 at the moment. White/Black, not exactly the same as the older style, though.

I weigh them all on an certified scale that I occasionally calibrate for accuracy, before they are worn. Humidity where I live does not swing that much. Weighing after wearing or in humidity has an effect.

Tech 10s are very slightly heavier, size for size. However, there is enough variance from one pair to the next to be within that variance, or margin of error.

Size 11/45.5 T10:

SG12s size 11/46:

Note that this is in tenths of a pound, not ounces, So 4.10 is 4 lbs.1.6 ounces, not 4 lbs.10 ounces..

Hope that helps.

I haven't owned SG-12s only tried them in a store. So can't comment on those.

But i have been using the early Instincts, old gen Tech 10, the latest gen Tech 10, latest gen supervented version of the Tech 10 and the Sidi Atojo the last 7 or so years.

If i could afford to buy new boots every 7-10 hours of riding, i might say the Instincts are the best because of the comfort. Unfortunately they become so soft quickly that it's frankly ridiculous for a top of the line boot. Atojo is basically between the soft Instinct and the stiffer Tech 10. And it's super light, you do notice it compared to the Tech 10 when you enter turns and get your leg up and forward.

But overall i value protection the highest. That is why i think the Tech 10 is the best for me. Even though the durability isn't the best.

New Tech 7 are pretty much perfect boots. Price, comfort and wear are great. Seems they are ready to go from box as before they needed some riding to break in and wear has been cut down with new materials.

I just ordered a pair of SG12s from motostorm in the UK for $419 shipped to the states.

Kinda bummed since I just bought some fox instincts a few months back and really liked them. But I think they were a contributing factor in hyper extending my ankle/broken talus.
