In this somewhat recent interview with PulpMX, he said he’s a Safety Specialist at the Ramona Municipal Water District.

A fun fact I learned while looking this up is that Tommy was actually the first RedBull athlete in motocross and the first to sport a RedBull branded helmet. Never knew that!

Someone came up to me in the early morning at my sons race when I was prepping his bike and asked if I could help change a rear tube off an 85. Realized who it was after talking to what turned out to be him and his father. Both super nice people. His son was racing..from the sound of it he was just starting to take it serious.

I remember back in the late 80s at Lake Whitney I was prepping a gate for my buddy. I spent about 15mins sweeping the concrete clean and stomping the rut, had it all set nicely when Clowers rolled up and claimed the spot because he had the better 1st moto results so he had the pick. I hated him for it then, but looking back on it he was probably just chillin watching me do all the work and laughing. Smart as a fox. Dude was a very fast amateur.

He and his family were parked close to us at Ponca in 83. He was one of the only kids there on a YZ 60, but he was full Yamaha support, and his mod bike sounded like a healthy 80 at the time. We were both in the same class 60 classes, but his bikes sounded soooo much better than my KX 60's that Harry Klemm had built. Super nice people, our folks visited together quite often throughout the week. John and Rita at JT always had his gear dialed back then as well. Kid was a force for sure.

In 1990, right before he turned Pro I saw him beat Emig, Hughes and McGrath at Barona on the 125 & 250, but not every moto...but he straight up beat all of them as an Pro Am that day! It must have been a weekend right between one of the SX races because all the Team Green box vans were there....he was very fast at Barona....and Carlsbad as well. Seeing all those guys race a local race was so badass....just getting to study their body position and bike control so close is way better than going to a Pro National nowadays.

Love Tommy. We used to have events here in Utah out at Planet P and guys like Clowers, Mad Mike, and Trevor Vines would come out and put on a hell of a show. Tomcat was soooo dialed back then and he always stood out. So smooth and great extension for such a little guy. Hell of a step up competitor as well.

Never saw him, but lived in San diego in that same Era. Always loved watching his freestyle and everyone local knew he was proper fast on the track

He always had great style and would've won a few more fmx events if not for Pastrana. His SMP gear also ruled and was indestructible. He also did a big jump over 50 doubles for MOTO XXX back in the day. 😉

Always liked him. Seemed like a cool dude. Always smiling. Jason Partridge was another rider with a lot of skill.

He was a Yamaha support rider racing for NCY in 94. That bike was trick looking with awesome graphics and a mini silencer.

We are lucky to see the entire sport grow and evolve. We saw the first freakin flip on a motorcycle. I remember being so excited for XGames to see what the newest moto trick or innovation is. Now you can't even do a backflip-superman to win. You need to do a double flip, front flip, tricking backflips, 360's, insane.

Some of the stuff they do today is mind blowing. I watch Hodges, Taka, McNeil, and Wanky do some serious stuff. You are right that the evolution in our sport has been fun to watch.
