Thoughts? That was one of the toughest interviews I’ve ever listened to in my life. He mentors kids? I will say walker was put in a tough spot but as his trainer you should support the kid 100%, not set him up. He claimed the bike, paid the money and that’s it. It’s no one’s place to be having “conversations” with him.

Ehhh I think the blame is 1a. Sponsor 1b. Walker pit conversation but I disagree with the opinion in your post. If Walker would of pulled the kid and dad aside like a normal adult instead of in some weird circle jerk I would of had no problem with Walker giving his opinion. How it was done is where it went off the rails for me.

I would ask why did he get involved in that situation at all?

Yep could have just stayed at arms length and just said "nope nothing to do with me" and moved on with his life.

Matt has always been a little hot headed punk. Never liked him even when he was racing! I would never send my kid to his compound! JMO

I'm partway through it and it's a tough listen. Can't stop giving unimportant details like talking about tire choice.

Walker hasn't come off looking or sounding great on Pulp or ML's piece IMO. Contrast his interview with Derek Harris's interview (the engine builder) and it's pretty easy to distinguish whom I'm tend to believe.

Matt Walker was/is an incredibly talented and successful rider, ride circles around myself and most everyone here. Built a successful business and has more knowledge in one pinky than most of us will ever have regarding MX..... I respect that/him for it.

However, based on what is being said and what was done at Lorreta's, information available to us outsiders, fans of the sport...., I am not sure he is someone I'd choose to coach a young person under my charge..... regardless of where someone might stand with the whole claim issue. I'm a nobody, just a fan and that's where I come out after listening to all of these interviews.

Sometimes it's not just the words delivered, but how they are delivered. This was turned into more than it was, some 7th grade drama by a few adults acting potentially less than adult. Heck Mr. Regan of Star thought the bike was gone... no drama. Folks should have followed his lead.

I like JT's take on the whole issue. Let the downvotes commence! lol

A kid takes his own money and claims, well...attempts to claim, one of the bikes that is singled out as being one of THE High-Dollar Offenders of the rule book...

And he get's shit on for doing it.

Now, if that's how you see it? Then Walker is one of if not THE worst offenders that get's the award for shitting on this kid the most. From far too many camps, it's been reported that...

The Kid changed his tune after Matt got to him.

Back in the day "He could've beat Bubba every day of the week and twice on Sunday!"
https://www.vurbmoto.com/were-headed-back-to-silver-dollar/
Haha he said on the TGO '05 edition the Constant War that if Bubba was still in the class he would have a hard time winning. There was a discussion somewhere on FB a couple years ago and I said naw Bubba would have smoked them all in 2005 too. Walker chimed in and said I never said that. I said dude it's on video, what?

It’s just funny how Matt says he has the kids back along with anyone else he trains, and has known him forever (3 years) then turns around and says he hasn’t talked to him since the incident. After hearing GL say his piece on how Matt as a selfish dude that he doesn’t really care much for it’s pretty clear what really happened.

Matt shouldn't have been involved in the claim process at all. Cotter shouldn't have been involved. Brian Deegan should not have been involved. The only persons(s) that should have been involved in the claims process was AMA official(s).

Where can I find the statements from Langston and Ping? I don't have social media so I'm probably out of luck.

I saw it on an IG post/story that someone linked here. They weren’t happy about what happened to Brennan. These are both direct quotes and also summaries of what they said:

Ping: “it’s bullshit.”
GL: “it’s fucking bullshit.”

This ^^^^ I have been saying the same from the beginning and 800 posts later the same holds true. Nobody needed a be a part of this especially Tim Cotter and Deegan.....and a close second being Walker and Yamaha. It sounds like they will keep it anonymous going forward, but they should make this right for Brennan even though he has inconsistencies in his stories. He wouldn't have to tell a story if he went home with the bike.

By make it right I mean Star should build him a badass bike without the "markings in the motor" to give away suppliers.

I don't have an issue with Cotter being involved as he IS the on-site administrator for MX Sports who would function as an arm of the AMA. I also don't think Cotter did anything wrong, nor did the AMA that they haven't come out and admitted to and indicated they plan to work to improve for the future.

Were mistakes made? Yes. Did Cotter or the AMA make them purposefully? No. The real issue here is what happened in Matt Walker's camp that night. Unfortunately, the truth will most likely never come out.

Thanks a lot for posting that Mav, it was a good listen. Kudos to Ping and GL for calling it like it is and for not trying to protect the industry insiders like Mathhes has.

1. How is the PROMOTER the "arm" of the governing body? Thats like saying the TV Promoter of the Cowboys NFL Team is the "arm" of the referees? They are completely separate and he should not have been involved.

2. "Old Slow Guy" posted they have already had meetings and many changes will be in effect and he alluded to the anonymity being one of them.

The real issue is that anyone else was involved in this other than the AMA and Brennan with his family. Now, his sponsor may have still dropped him and Walker may have booted him from Moto X after he claimed the bike. They have the right to do that if they feel individuals they are supporting do not represent them well.

I did not say Cotter did anything on purpose, but he should have handed this to the AMA and went back to running the race.

He disagreed with Brennan's decision. He spoke up because he cares about him and thought it was career suicide. If he didn't care about the kid, then he wouldn't have said anything. What did Matt have to gain by talking the kid out of claiming the bike?

This was pretty much my interpretation as well. I have zero in this, I don't really watch the amateur racing, I don't follow any Deegan socials, and I don't work in the industry. I also thought Craig Martin made an excellent point when he called in and said during his time as Team Green manager he would get 1000s of racing resumes across his desk in a year. Having your name associated with a controversy like this was enough for him to just turn the page over.

In a perfect world, the kid claims the bike and life goes on. At the same time, he and his camp have to know claiming Haiden's bike is going to go nuclear. There are always consequences, and I think that was Matt Walker's main point.

Blow hard status of being a small fish, and getting something done that the big fish wanted done, weather they asked / instructed / suggested him to or not. Theres a dozen other "brennans" who will show up and pay money to live at his facility. There arent many chances where you can be the rock star for the big fish. That is human nature unfortunately.

if walker decides he needs to have another meeting like this one at LLs, I suspect it will be a bit more of a drive for all the participants, since he will probably be parked in the field down behind the museum.

I can't think of an equivalent today, someone that stayed in the 125/250 class as a lifer with limited success, 9 podiums in 9 years. Maybe Mitchell Oldenburg would be a close comparison.

Fun fact, Matt Walker won the very first supercross I ever attended.

Thank God he talked him out of the claim. Looks like it all worked out for the kid. Career suicide? The kids 17 and back of the B pack. Is he going to have a motocross career?
