Claiming has nothing to do with cheating...that would be handled by a protest...it costs a lot less to protest than claim....somebody just wanted to buy a Star bike...

Factory rides all through amateurs is the reason so many of these kids go pro and never produce. Of course you’ll dominate amateur ranks when you’ve been on a team since you were 6 years old.
shit changes fast when everyone is on the same program and equipment.
Exactly.

The amateur system is broken. The sport needs to limit how much support can be given at the amateur level.

Deegan isn’t going to produce much when he reaches the pros when everyone is on same/better equipment than him. Jake Weimer once said that rich kids don’t make it because they aren’t tough enough. It’ll happen to Deegan

How did the claim get retracted? People claim Star had to pay off the person claiming the bike? I.e, we will cut you a check for Xxxx$ to cancel your claim against our bike?

Is it public as to who made the claim?

hrm. i watched that race. he pulled off by the tunnel....cut across the start straight..around backside of billboard to the mechanics area...talked to mech and then re-entered the track.

you must not be familiar with lorettas because that was not cutting half the the track. lol. give it up already.

Smart parents would have Haiden in Europe racing a year of Euro competition/ EMX to harden up and find out how good he is or isn't- like, I dunno Ferrandis, Roczen and a slew of others including Hunter bros.

The claiming rule is dumb. A $50,000 YZ250f isn't going to make any schoolboy or 250B rider any faster than a $10k bike would. I'd tell the AMA to pound sand and keep my trophy.

$17,500.00 was put on the table for Deegan's bike and after a lengthy discussion between the various camps the "Claim" was retracted.

Btw, Deegan's motor is good but is still 4 odd HP down compared to the full factory units.

Edit - Deegan is in for Ironman.
Uh, what are the cliff notes on the "lengthy discussion"? Laughing

I promise you, the ones that actually spew negative stuff about kids racing are the ones who don’t ride or don’t have kids who ride OR if they do have one or both of either of those, them or their kids are ass slow and it’s never going to change.

Jealousy is the common denominator every time.

Let kids be kids. Have fun, enjoy the sport. Fast or slow it doesn’t matter. Some of these Dads living through their kids is f$&ked.

The way I understand it is the 7 big teams have an understanding where if a claim is filed they all do a claim so then there is a 1 in 8 chance of winning. Odds are you would loose that $$$$$ and go home empty handed.
You don't lose the claim money if you lose the claim, you get it back as do all the others who put in money to claim a bike. Now a protest is different, if you protest and it turns out the bike was a cheater than you get your protest money back and the bike and rider are DQed but if the bike was legal then you lose your protest money to the riders bike that was torn down. Being in the industry you should know this basic stuff and not spread misinformation, or did Dave tell you that? This aint the late 1970s anymore.

There are a lot of idiotic theories that float around and get blindly repeated regarding US amateurs, and this seems to be the latest. The Star Yamaha amateur riders are competing against PC Kawis, HRC (FC) Hondas, Orange Brigade KTMs, Rockstar Huskys, TLD GasGas's, Rock River Yamahas, and BarX Suzukis, just like they will in the pros. These amateur team bikes are all built to about the same level, which is well built but not full factory treatment. Deegan may or may not produce as a pro, but that will be decided by talent and drive not some massive equipment advantage that is going to somehow disappear when he turns pro.

You forget Deegan will be on a Star Yamaha in the Pro's which is arguably one of the better bikes out there. Furthermore, he is also pretty much on the pace of his Pro team mates so he will be good once he has a few Pro races behind him.

Money certainly helps but without the correct guidance, discipline, work ethic and determination one will fail to produce. Brian made his own money and has so far done a great job steering his kids in the right direction. There are no guarantees in this sport so we shall wait and see what Haiden produces.

Really in poor taste to shit on a kid because his parents are fortunate to be able to provide more than others.

The list of Champions who hustled to make it is pretty impressive....

Edit - Hey Derek, for the record, I'm not shitting on you and the above is just my perspective on the situation.

Isn’t the entire moto media at LL now ? How is it that we still don’t have all the facts yet ? Or is this one of the many things that get swept under the carpet in moto ? Somethings must not be spoken of …

From MX Sports:

The claiming rule value is two times the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) at the National event.

What if the bikes not for sale?
And if it is wouldn’t it be the agreed price with the owner or highest bidder etc?

I've just asked for the details as to who wanted to claim and why they did not follow through. I'll let you guys know if that info is passed back to me. I'm sure the bits n bobs will come out soon enough.

Haiden grew up on a Supercross track. I would be really surprised if he isn’t winning indoor races his first year.

I think in the 250 class some extra power makes a difference even in the local b class

Bike not for sale? Does not matter if you get claimed... by racing, you put your bike up for being claimed.... highest bidder? No bidders.... just the person that puts the claim on your bike, at a pre set price.... double retail here I believe.... correct me if I'm wrong here fellas....

No offense taken. I think criticizing is a better term rather than “shitting on.”

I do see your perspective on the situation and like myself just giving my opinion. I just find it ironic than Brian has said in the videos that “we are doing the right thing” and blah blah, but then they get caught in some form of cheating. It’s just bad for the sport.

I could be wrong about my thoughts. I mean, I don’t have a Star Yamaha ride nor half that talent.

I don’t believe it’s poor taste to criticize an athlete at his age. The kid is plastered all over YouTube for their vlogs. If the Deegans don’t like the criticism then don’t vlog your life.

Forget about the Deegans for a sec; do any of you goofies actually think that Star would put their reputation on the line by running a cheater bike at the biggest amateur race in the country?
Well they did it at lake Whitney years ago with cooper webb so there’s that.

I have worked in motorsports for 20+ years, everyone cheats!! Especially in the higher end of amateur racing, because there is less monitoring by officials. I am surprised claims do not happen more often.
