A first choice would be Marty Smith, except, well , you know ... Dammit, what a loss.

So gotta go with Joel Robert.

Honestly, Dungey.

Had a very healthy, mostly injury-free career. Never had a down season, even in his worst years he was still always a podium guy. Probably one of the most respected and admired men of the sport, received a lot of recognition with the whole ESPYs thing & Wheaties Box, ended his career with a title, and is now racing again and everybody is ecstatic just to see him on the track.

He might've not had the sheer excitement and flare that McGrath and Stew had, but the sport itself is so stressful & anxious that a bit of normalcy and consistency would probably be desired.

If we're only talking about riding the bike, then David Bailey for me. He's the embodiment of how a motocross bike should be ridden.

Agreed.

However, my earlier picks of Staten/Chandler were based on what kind of person they were/are and their character....not their level of success, size of their bank accounts, conquests etc etc.....

In the modern era....someone mentioned Dunge and that is another excellent pick when it comes to the man and his character.

Hurricane. Not only for his Motocross career but his airplane antics as well. He raced one of the baddest ass planes in the sky for a couple of years and then went on to make a living buying and selling planes while having a blast flying bush planes for fun.

edit: the era he raced in and the legends he raced against solidify my pick in my mind as well Wink

I'll take Wardy, long motocross career with a lot of success and little injuries. Plus, he moved on to Indy cars, then came back and did supermoto and is still riding to this day.

Completely agree and you nailed it all on the head. The unrelenting consistency, ability to avoid injury at almost every crash he had and accolades he collected throughout his career make him the top choice for me. His off-the-bike life looks pretty damn sweet too

Interesting question....

I'd probably have to go with Reed, hard to argue with his on track career and accomplishments. Some of the TwoTwo Motorsports days woulda been awesome to live. He's also got a smoking hot wife but got to play the field during their swinger days.
Hold up...the Reeds were swingers? How have I never heard this before?

And I'd go with RC...just to know what it feels like to be the absolute best...knowing there isn't anyone in the world faster than me.

Some had better style, and could flow around the track, and do amazing things...but nobody but RC knows the feeling of being absolute best. And there couldn't be a better feeling.

I go to my hare and hounds, look at the 300 rider line...and think to myself, "I'm faster than all but 40 of these dudes", and that feels cool...then I remember there are hundreds of races happening all around the world with guys faster than me....now imagine lining up at any gate anywhere in the world and knowing that not one single person is faster than you? How would that feel?

I was just about to type this and saw you got the holey. Ready to take on the world!
However, I don't know that I'd live through the 20s a second time so there is that.

You misspelled Ricky Carmichael.

“Living through my 20’s” would be even less likely if I had more money for fast bikes, and fast women…..
