Does your track have whoops?

Do your local tracks have a set of whoops?

Seems like they used to be more common but most of the tracks around here seem to not have them anymore. Other than washougal none of the tracks around here have them. Just feels like they was more common feature 10 - 15 years ago.

I'm more likely to run into whoops now on a trail ride.

Nope, I miss them. Back in the day when I lived in the NW Albany and Mountain View had killer whoops. I wiskey throttled them plenty of times lol

Washougal should ditch the SX whoops and make them rollers. Most dangerous obstacle on the track hands down.

Sure, why not?

Could make some rollers all the way to the finish line jump, maybe the fast guys could figure out a way to time it and jump over the finish line jump from the last one.

*Yes, I know they are kinda "iconic" for the 'Shoug but god damn they are dangerous.

In my area they seem to have evolved more into Rollers than the old traditional Stadium Whoops.

Rollers are my favorite part of the track, usually.

Every track should hv whoops and yrs ago most did. I consider a track without whoops a incomplete track. Best spot to pass there is.

They need to leave the Shoug whoops up in memory of Jordon Smiths sweet wheel tap through them a couple years ago.

Yep, a couple years ago I diagrammed & somewhat replicated Washougals whoop section for our private track. My boys can kill it in the whoops unfortunately it is a rarely used skill -

Back when I used to ride a lot more, I’d just always go around them. Not worth it for me as a middle class nobody to beat the hell outta my bike every lap lol. I was mainly a trails rider anyway, so the track was just for fun.

Didn't they used to occur naturally??? We had them at our practice tracks and didn't build them with anything but riding. Of course they weren't stadium whoops.

Field of Dreams and Englishtown in NJ, none at all.

Budds Creek has rollers, no whoops.

Southwick and the sand pits in NJ end up being mostly sand whoops. These are my favorite to ride.

I do remember local summer races in NorCal had some stadium style whoops. I was tall and dumb enough to click third, hold it wide open, and make up a few seconds a lap on everyone else.

I just rebuilt our whoops a couple weeks ago. They'd gotten beat down over a few years. Now they are serious again.

Fast line is triple, triple, triple on the outside. Inside line is double triple triple. Either way, commitment is needed.

I tilled them, then used the bucket to move dirt to the tops. Then smoothed the transitions and rolled it all with a pickup.18' top to top, 8 whoops long. I will build a longer set next time.

Imo, outdoor tracks with naturally formed whoops are the way to go. I don't consider the above pictures to be whoops as much as rollers. Whoops in the truest sense of the word occur naturally and are not the same as SX whoops.

For what it's worth, I love whoops and where I ride we have never ending desert whoops that are in all shapes, sizes and distance apart.

Albany has whoops, hate it when they run them, they’re awful.

We have hundreds if not thousands of miles of trail here in central Oregon with whoops, I get my fill on them but would take them over man made ones.

I wish tracks would do a split section, one half of the track is mellow rollers for beginners and vets while the other half is serious whoops to challenge more advanced riders. I feel like most local tracks are getting so mellow that’s it’s taking the fun out of it, any time there’s a challenging jump or section not everyone can do people complain because their ego can’t handle it.

Ah those r Nice. Where’s the track ? My 1st mx ride was at mcchickenee natl forest it’s endless sand whoops temp was 12 so the bike ran crisp. It was an amazing feeling the bike was so fun. I kept grabbing gears wo in 6th the faster I went the easier the whoops where. I tried to hit 7th gear. Every time I hit the whoops I try to re Live that feeling. I broke the shock on that 87 125 on some 4.ft hard whoops.

I’ve only ridden a small handful of tracks that didn’t have them. Most were really manageable though. Nothing too extreme.

Sandy Valley has a small section of really small whoops

Western Raceway used to have this small section on their vet track but they were removed a long time ago in favor of a single jump to flat land. Not sure if the track will ever reopen as of now although I'm still holding out hope.

Most tracks here in Michigan don't have a whoops section but a lot of them have sand rollers which I love. I learned to ride in the trails and orv spots full of natural sand rollers and because I'm tall I'm just naturally good at hitting rollers and whoops. I would like more tracks to put in a real stadium style whoop section because I've really never had a chance to hit big whoops.

One new track just opened by me, they have some nice big, spread out rollers that are spaced in a tricky way and right out of a tight off camber corner. It's a tricky, technical section and you can double or even triple in if you go outside, it's really fun. It's by far my best section on the whole track. I wish I could corner and jump as well as i can hit rollers and whoops.

When I think of whoops, I think of SX and skimming. Most tracks I ride (MI practice tracks) have rollers, but not legit whoops. They’re not an easy obstacle to properly build or maintain. I’m fine with not having to hit them lol

Same here if you double triple them that’s a timing section. We had clay type sx type of whoops at the local track. When they get wore down and no one else is riding. Run them backwards and forwards. Backwards is a lot more difficult.
