Didn't his dad fly him to mini races in a helicopter? I always figured his perspective came from that kind of up bringing. Maybe I am mistaken.
You are mistaken. He mentions a couple times handing his dad his dad beers out of the cooler and inhaling second hand smoke on the way to races.
Where did you get that?

Too many things are lumped under the word "political" now. You can disagree on how tax dollars are allocated and how said tax dollars are collected, but now we're arguing about Jewish space lasers, pronouns, and considering anyone who lives a different life than you with different goals "the enemy", and somehow that's what is considered politics now.

*not directly tying Ping to any of this, just so many people talking about "politics" in this thread made me want to vent.

Ping is one of the best when it comes to moto media personalities. All of the content he puts out has been top notch, whiskey throttle, elevate, bike tests, ask ping, etc…

But I shut it off when politics start to leak into the content. I enjoy motocross and motorcycles for the escape they bring; I don’t enjoy hearing about someone’s beliefs about covid or the president, whether I agree with the opinion or not. Hopefully Ping tones it down a little because he really is a joy to listen to about moto stuff.

I understand the need to "clean up" threads every once in a while, but it does paint a sad picture when "f&%# Liberals" gets deleted but all the posts about Ping being a crazy right-winger are still standing.

He has some beliefs and everyone knows where he stands, but I guarantee if he saw you on the side of the road changing a flat he would stop to help. And he sure wouldn't ask who you voted for first.

I've wondered about him being out of the fire service too since it has been a while with the facial fur. The only time I see other firemen like that is when they have major surgery and have 3-4 months to grow a beard and US Forest Service peeps. If he is strongly against a vax mandate and left the fire service over it at least he backed up his belief with action. I know of quite a few people that are facing that scenario right now. They probably don't have a strong fall back opportunity like Ping has built for built for himself. If that's the scenario I say good for him.

I just clipped the one comment where someone called him "crazy" but after another run through this thread, where does anyone call him a crazy right winger or anything close to right wing?

Fuck Liberals got deleted cause it goes directly against my guidelines on politics. If someone said fuck conservatives, I'd clip that as well. Hell, my political views are conservative in nature.

I Totally understand Ping ! This place is definitely going the wrong way and becoming to be more on the woke side . Censoring stuff and kicking off members , basically nothing like when I signed on in 2008. People on this site and the moderators are a bunch of crying babies and turning Moto into bowling!

Liberal and conservative are philosophies, one roughly meaning you're open to trying new things and the other meaning you want to make things last. There's absolutely nothing wrong with either, nor are they even opposing to each other. Those words should not be political. The problems arise when political groups of people try to lay claim to those philosophies, then put their own toxic spin on them. Blame those groups of people, not the ideologies. The ideologies are fine.

Anyway, Ping does get Ryno kooky sometimes and he seems a little me-me-me entitled, but I like him anyway and hope this will be good for him.

It’s possible Vital operates on a fiscal year and not a calendar year. Given the current state of the terrible economy, which hasn’t even come close to bottoming out, negotiations could’ve been underway for next fiscal years salary and the two parties could not come to an agreement and parted ways. Sometimes it’s still about money even with all the crazy other shit flying around these days.
It’s just the beginning of the sorrows….lots of this to happen in many sectors of business.

I don't know the guy but I wish him the best. Anyone who has worked for a living knows what it's like to "move on". Business is business and sometimes the best investment is investing in yourself.

I appreciate you responding, and I wasn't directly criticizing how you run things. At that point it just seemed a little one-sided.
I agree with those extremes being clipped in the moto forum, for sure.

As for Ping leaving, maybe there was some drama, maybe there wasn't. Who cares.
If you don't like Vital, don't come to Vital. If you don't like Ping, don't follow Ping wherever he goes.
It shouldn't matter what his politics are, seems to me he's doubling down on the income streams HE has more control over.
He has a couple daughters (I think) who are involved in sports and other things, if him having more control over his income streams allows him to invest more time with his family, how can anyone fault that decision?

Some of you guys, I swear I just don't understand... Occasionally, people have difference of opinions and they come and go... It happens. All of these don't let the door hit you in the ass comments really aren't necessary. Ping does a pretty good job with his media content on Whiskey Throttle, Instagram, etc... I don't see the need to be douche, just because he is no longer here. WTF ever. I promise you, the same Dude's bitch'n about Ping will still listen to WTS...

I was there in person for that. It was epic. I wish Ping luck with whatever he does next. I really enjoyed his ask ping videos. Maybe Vital wanted someone full time and he wasn't able to do it.

For clarity, my leaving is simply a business move. Vital is going one direction and I’ve decided that it’s best for me to go another. That’s it. I wish all these guys the best and I’ll be seeing them all regularly at the track.

As far as the fire service goes, I took a leave of absence in the fall. There are many factors, including vaccine and mask mandates, staffing issues and the simple fact that I was away from my family too much. Without going into detail, Covid caused massive worker shortages in every field, and we were no exception. I was being forced to work around 20 days per month… that’s twenty 24-hour shifts. Being gone that much is very hard on a family… especially having teenage girls, Lord help me. Anyway, that’s why the long hair and beard. Planning to return to the job later this summer once my new projects are off and running.

It makes me chuckle when I hear people say that I’m a crazy conspiracy theorist. I believe in God, family, the United States constitution and the smallest possible government to protect our rights and freedoms as a republic. I guess I’m really out there.

Cheers

This day and age your much better off starting your own business anyway. That’s why a record # of people have in the last yr. You write everything off. I,m turning my LLc into a courier co. I make a delivery to Millville create a couple bogus bols this is done in trucking all the time.I get to write my gas off then. A ld of paper leaves nj. Goes to IL. It gets cross docked and goes back to nj.or it never left nj but there’s a Bol saying it did. End of the yr most warehouses r emptied the lds hv to go aprox 200 mi away, mobile warehousing stuff stays in trailers it just keeps moving around the country creating revenue. Start a media co and cover the 125 racing since no one else will. My sign up is a write off. Since I had to higher and pay a rider 120.00 a week , me. Haha. 400.00 race weekend cost nothing. You can also call 1-900-pro-Noww to get an exciting recap of the race. Don’t miss out Call today. Haha
You're a treasure man, for real 🍻

His testing knowledge was very valuable and tough to replace. I don't even read or watch many of the bike tests on the internet anymore because most are done by a guy who has no idea what the bike is doing. I also thought that losing GL from Whiskey Throttle was a shame as well.

Good luck Ping. Family first and 20 days a month is too much. In the olden days my old department had an OT cap of 5 shifts. That came from the LA Times (AKA Moscow Bugle) bitching about firemen making too much money. What a joke nowadays. It's been 5 years running for the guys working now. The money is only great for so long. It's really affecting families and marriages.

If you watch these threads over the years you see a pattern. Moto celebrity getting grilled for a few pages. Moto celebrity comes in, makes a statement, and you get a few more pages of pure love for said moto celebrity.

As far as censoring, banning, clicking goes, IMO GuyB was a NAZI compared to ML. ML seems to be pretty light handed in these regards.

The biggest problem with Vital is that we are not all moto insiders. I'm just a fan. I don't know any industry insiders. I come here as a pure fan. If I make a disparaging remark about a rider, it's not personal as I don't know that rider. But the staff of Vital, they do know them, so they take it as a personal attack on their buddy.

Bob Hannah is a good example of what I mean. Bob's public persona is one of an arrogant asshole. People tell me that Bob Hannah the private man is not like that. But why chastise me when I call Bob Hannah the racer an arrogant asshole, after-all, that's his brand. Dungey's brand is the clean cut All American boy next door. The racers all have a brand they present.

It's almost like moto fans aren't really welcome here, it's just for the cool kid industry insiders.

It's like Pro Motocross simultaneously wants to stay small and cool and exclusive and simultaneously become big and mainstream.

Just my observations.
