Good question. Many of us Motodrive and Motonews OGs witnessed the drama that surrounded Mike way back. No need to dredge it all up again. It was the first time I'd experienced such a sheerly vicious character assassination feeding frenzy amplified by 'social media' (boards like this). Some of the comments were just downright aggravated assaults by keyboard warriors piling on purely for attention and entertainment.

Mike was far from perfect. He did some batshit crazy things, for sure. (that made him fun to be around sometimes). But he also was 100% moto and loved promoting all that was good about the sport. I know that whole episode wounded him deeply. He was never the same after that.

I miss the early days of moto message board but I don't miss the meaness that came along with it.

Wow! This thread brought back a lot of memories of those days. I had forgotten completely about Fresh Dirt. Lots of great times and just a few not so good. It was a great time in the sport! It’s very sad that some have left this earth way too soon.

I didn't know him that well, but we shared some fun messages back and forth through facebook where he shared some of his stories about McGrath and his early days on Whipit! and Fresh Dirt. He was a cool dude.
