Speaking of that, we are having our own local issue with exactly that sort of thing with a little local wannabe mega church….!

I see your point, Kevin, but I don't think they'd win a court battle using the 1a as a defense.

Of course I have not seen the language in the weird autonomous deal Disney got (couldn't understand it anyway probably), but this seems like a gift from Florida, and legislators change and adjust state rules all the time.
Whether they would or wouldn’t prevail in court is probably a crapshoot. I’m still fairly convinced that OJ Simpson killed a couple people, even though a criminal court found him not guilty…..!

But it’s pretty tough to argue that this isn’t punishment for political speech when those who are attempting to impose it have said just that.

I generally try to base my political stances on principle as much as possible, and it’s sad to see so many abandon their claimed principles so easily.

I don't do Q, but I was baptized.

Seems to me though that Disney is being more weird than Christianity in regards to raising children.

Whether he said it as a private citizen or a representative of Disney doesn’t make a difference. There are no restrictions on political speech for corporations, either.

This is a great example of principles no longer mattering in politics in general. You don’t like Disney’s stance, so you are fine with governmental retaliation for them being punished. And the lawmakers have been very clear that this is punishment for the political position that was taken……

How is it "retaliation" when all that is happening is a corporation is having something taken away they shouldnt have now anyway. All Im seeing is sweetheart arrangement they were granted is finally being taken away, shouldve been done long ago and is long overdue.
I know where you are coming from but to deny that this is retaliation is head in the sand stuff. If this should have happened years ago, why hasn't it? The Republicans in Florida have been fine with this all these years. Why now? You know goddam well why now.

Who cares if it's retaliation? It's the way the game is played now.

And Im sure you were equally as distressed when the dementia laden POS in the Oval Office directed the FBI to go after parents speaking their mind in a hometown school board meeting and labeling them as terrorist? If that aint "retaliation" for 1A speech, I dont know what is.

Not sure what you are referring to for sure. I don’t know of any cases where people were punished for anything other than threats, which actually occurred in our town.

But if anyone was punished for simply expressing their views then yes, I would definitely be against those punishments taking place.

Pulling the plug on Disneys sweetheart perk is one thing, but putting honest, concerned moms & dads on the Feds shit-list is another level altogether.

Disney still makes first rate children's entertainment, they aren't perfect but nobody and no company is.

Republicans could be pointing to the Reedy Creek Improvement District as an example of what great things can be done when the government gets out of the way and let's private party's have more control of their land use.

Again, threats are a completely different issue, don’t you think? Even the blog post on Gym Jordan’s website acknowledges that was the issue with the FBI involvement.

But it sounds like you are definitely on the side of abandoning principles when it comes to your political positions.

I agree its a cheap shot at Disney. But to me its not "political". I dont like people and businesses who support and/or want to talk about sex with kindergarteners. And screw them and anyone else who agrees with it.

The "issue" was using a FEDERAL level agency to address small-town America issues and the wide open determination what constitutes "threatening" and who determines it. We already have plenty of law enforcement to handle domestic issues between Americans, we dont need the fricking Fed putting regular Americans on a shitlist because they dont want thier little Johnny wearing a diaper on his face all day at school. The entire thing Biden did was a major threat to dissenting Americans who were fed up with masks and mandated mystery jabs letting them know that Big Brother is watching.

"So parents who show up at their local school board meeting, write a letter to administrators, or send an email to their child's teacher could now end up tagged as a threat in the FBI's database if their words or actions are deemed to be threatening, harassing, or intimidating — apparently even if there aren't any federal violations that can be investigated or charged."

Vital owns all bears. You’ve been here long enough to know that.

But if you wanna talk about pedophiles (grooming, really. No need to be cryptic, this is the narrative circulating) go right ahead. Normal people, meanwhile, aren’t interested in choosing political representation based on who you want to fuck. It’s 2022, nobody cares. The economy is tanking, our foreign policy is ‘please stop, bad guys’ and all the dems are worried about is teaching sexual confusion to children. Stick with it. Let me know how november turns out for you guys.

Hey wait a second, how exactly is not giving a company special priveledges a violation of 1st amendment rights.

Nope they want to play Woke politics, They are getting back a little of what they are dishing out.

The woke cancel culture is finding out two can play at that game. They don't seem very happy about it lately.

I don't really understand the deal that made Disney able to basically create their own municipality, but it was in place since the 60s or so, right?

And now that is being taken away due to their political stance, which would seem to be about as egregious of a First Amendment violation as you could get. The Florida politicians that have went on record as saying that this is in response to Disney's political stance is overwhelming evidence of this being nothing more than government retribution.
Florida was a different place in the 60's and needed Disney. Those days are over.

I know a few atheists that believe a boy is a boy and girl is a girl.

If my kids teachers tell them that 2+2=5 that is wrong and shouldn’t be in schools.

If my kids teachers tell them that a male human being can get pregnant, that is also wrong and shouldn’t be in schools.

Neither one of those examples has anything to do with religion.

Yeah, State Republicans are passing a bunch of gay laws and abortion laws in the run-up to the midterms. This is putting these hot button issues front and center. I expect there will be some big race event happen this summer. This whole Disney thing is likely a distraction from the congressional map DeSantis put himself in charge of creating.

Calling someone a groomer is a good catch-all. You can use it as a derogatory term and it doesn't really mean anything, alot like deplorable, or like Putin invading Ukraine and blaming it on "Nazis".

The funny thing is that Disney and Disney World bring the best aspects of liberals and conservatives together to create a nice place and nice things. I don't think Disney has been making the best decisions lately, and their handling of this situation is an example of that. I don't thing Dems have been making the best decisions lately and this is an example of that. I don't think Repubs have been making the best decisions lately and this is an example of that.

It's a publicity stunt. Any changes to Reedy Creek have to be approved by residents and property owners (guess who that is?). This is all a dog and pony show for the twitter-tards.

Everything woke , turns to shit.
Caving in to a bunch of weirdo's , excludes the vast majority of normal thinking people. There are a lot of companies that took that path , and they are feeling it in the pocket book.

I hope that entire gaggle of woke perverts that run Disney go broke and that entire complex shuts down. Florida doesnt not need a stupid amusement park. At all. As long as they have sunshine and beautiful beaches and responsible Conservatives running things, the snowbirds from all over the nation are gonna flock there to escape looney woke ordinances & laws as well as oppressive and out of control spending and taxation created by idiot liberals on the east & western seaboards.
"Well, that escalated quickly!" Grinning
And I nodded a lot as I read thru it.

Disney is one of my "Cancel BACK" corps. While I don't have my thumbs out,,,doing all the "Virtue Social Media Ranting" that's required to be a true "canceler"...

I can do this:

NO ANNUAL PASSES
NO DISNEY TRIPS
NO Disneyana Crap...shirts...licensed product...what-not.

Get this, we live in Orange County, CA. We usually get the annual pass so that my wife and daughter can go whenever they want with whoever they want.

That's over.

And, I know we're not alone.

I'm applying the same practices on Nike. They can GFT, too.

We are really bummed about Disney. My wife and I were married there, did the whole fairytale wedding deal 30 years ago. Went 6 times a year for about a decade leading up to covid for about 10 weeks a year average. We like hotels and spent most of the time just winding down enjoying the relaxation and we have done the parks so much that a lot of times we just stayed in our suite at Animal kingdom lodge and rested and didn't even do the parks. My grandparents had family season passes as a kid and I wend dozens of times as a kid. It has changed. The last bunch of years all the merchandise changed from cool Disney merchandise and tons of Quicksilver stuff to all rainbow merchandise. I don't care about the gay stuff. 2 of my best friends are a black guy and Mexican guy and we bought them a trip to Disney for their honeymoon and joined them for the week. My suspension tuner and popular multiple track owner is married to a guy and is a great person. So I am not anti but the place has jumped the shark and caters to only that now. They agree its weird.
I witnessed the most obvious guilt of our society 3 trips in a row there. I eat at the same spot most times at the parks because I have a stupid food allergy. As I eat I can watch this group of white guys all dressed alike come from behind doors into the walking path and perform a song and dance. Almost no one cares. People just pass and almost act annoyed these guys are in the way of the busy tourists racing to the next ride and maybe 2 people stop and watch. Then the white guys leave behind closed doors. THEN... a group of black guys comes out in the exact same outfits and do the same routine as the white group but now everyone stops and cheers and it's standing room only and a giant ovation of cheers. Giant claps and roars from the pleased crowd. A little while longer and the white guys come out again and crickets. It was a wild social experiment exposing the guilt of our society and we would predict it the last few times and like clockwork it did.
It is still a place where everyone gets along completely and that alone is magical but they are losing a lot of regulars as they try to be super woke and that is only a tiny percent of the population and it ruined the best attractions with this weak minded offended nonsense.

I see the distraction as coming from the left. The “don’t say gay” bill is largely about parental knowledge and authority over a child’s mental and physical health. It strips the school district’s ability to guide treatment of a child. Of the 7 or so pages in the bill, I read about 5 pages that related to parental rights and one paragraph that says gender and sexuality cannot be taught (meaning part of the curriculum, not outright banned) to kids grade 3 and below.

So why has the DNC latched onto it? For one, administrative control superseding parental control (but they won’t say that) but more importantly because they are at a crossroads and can’t reconcile the historic pillars of their platform with their donors. The DNC needs a coalition of social issue voters because it’s all they have left. Since the Clinton administration the democrats platform has gotten further away from the dreams of the run of the mill democrat.

To me it seems the average democrat wants better working conditions, greater regulation or relief from consumer and student debt, no foreign wars and free healthcare.

Working conditions are out the window. The new industrialists are tech companies that have used donations and ESG policies to support DNC politicians. Any democrat who fights for unionization of companies that were founded or cleared 1b revenue after the union era is shooting themselves in the foot.

Debt relief and consumer protection has been ignored while normal people are servicing 8 year car loans, paying off a 6 figure student debt for a bachelors degree and paying rent because they can’t afford to buy a house that’s listed for 10X the zip code’s median income.

Meanwhile, it looks like this administration is inching closer towards saying “these Russians won’t listen to us, we gotta go shoot them” as if that’s their only option. All the while pushing huge support packages that really amount to inventory clearance to set up an inevitable round of defense contracts for new weapons.

And lastly, the healthcare bill (Obamacare, ACA) was nothing more than a bailout to the insurance companies. Healthcare for all or a single payer system is further out of reach than it ever has been because the last time the democrats went to the table to cut a deal it turned out to be with the insurance companies, not their constituents.

So what else does the DNC have? The currency of social outrage. It’s a distraction. They want the average voter to fight for someone else’s rights because the party isn’t doing anything for the average voter.

You guys cancel each other out while I get to do as I please because I'm all about "Rick first" and don't cancel anyone in my pursuit to happiness. I just go out and enjoy freedom without listening to anyone tell me how especially someone from Florida.
