Would the 250SX series be better if it wasn't East/West?

I've said for a while it would be better if they just combined all the 250's instead of split them up. And also forget about the pointing out rules, let guys make a career in the 250 class if they don't want to race a 450.

It doesn't have to be a "stepping stone" class like they're trying to keep it as now, that's what amateur racing is for isn't it?

Would be better for fans, but I think it would be worse for the sport. Less jobs. Leave it like it is.

Yeah I get what you're saying. Definitely wouldn't have 4-6 250 riders on each team anymore. Maybe just 2 for each class.

An interesting idea was brought up on pulp monday night.
250w for established riders.
craig, friese, the Martin's, etc...
250e for the feeder series it's supposed to be.

Solves the point out system, that's obviously not working.
And there's not enough 450 rides to support the talent that's been hanging around the 250 class far too long.
We've also seen a lot of good 250 riders get mired in the back of the open class.
Bogle, and others.

I'll have to go back and listen to that. Sounds interesting. The only other option I was thinking was 3 classes each night show.

250 East or West (up to 250f) like normal
250 OPEN (250cc limit) runs the whole series like 450
450 OPEN stays the same

Would be better if it were the opposite. West Coast rounds have less travel, would be better for privateers

I just can't see that working either way. The privateers on either/or coast would be at a big disadvantage. I know we would love to see better racing in the 250 class, I just don't see a way to make it happen where someone isn't getting screwed. On the pulp show, the guest was saying he thinks the 250 teams would still have 5-6 man teams if it went to a full series. I don't know what that guy is smoking. No change they would.

I think it needs 2 coasts. It adds to it . Imagine 450 and the 250 series being runaways. Very boring. Plus the shootouts are cool.

How would it be any more of a disadvantage for a privateer than it is now?

It’s no longer a support or entry level class when you have guys like CC, AF and Jmart in the class. Make it a national series. The teams are still going to have to have at least 3 riders to account for injuries, it’s not going to cut that many jobs. Does PC or Star only pay their riders 1/2 the season? Do they cut the riders outdoors?

If they do the West 3 years experience and up and you are a rookie from California, you will have to spend a lot of money to race the East for the first three years in that hypothetical.

There is no way the majority of the 250 guys could survive a 17 race series. 90% of the class can't last 8 rounds without crashing out.

2 options. Either 1) make it a national class or 2) make it a true stepping stone class with an age limit or accumulated lifetime points limit and a spec ECU to level the playing field. One way or the other would be fine with me.

I like this idea the best. You can't have just 1 open class because that would severely limit the number of rides. A half series open 250 class would still allow it to be considered an under-card to the premier 450 class. A points (250 career points?) Or age limited starter class (bump the champion) could give guys like Lopes, Carson Brown, etc. A better class to get intro'd into. The geographic consideration is an issue, but with so many guys especially privateers being based out of the southeast training facilities I don't think it's as big of a problem as it seems.

Would it be possible to have it one class but you only can race 8 nights? You pick and choose what cities works best for you and the team. Rider with the most points at the end wins. If you get injured and have to sit out a couple weeks its still possible to get a full season in 🤷

this is actually a really neat idea, would add a lot "drama" to the series not knowing who you are racing from night to night.

I think it would be better. Less jobs yea but not everyone gets to play in the NFL. You gotta be good or you dont play.

They do, they have TWO riders just in case of injuries.

Some do…have a salary cap per rider in 250s, motivation to move up and teams can still afford multiple riders. How many entry level guys can a team afford on a Craig salary? I’m not an insider but I’m guessing at least 2-3 Haymaker’s

While that sounds promising, it would lead to less 250W factory rides, so the up and coming riders would have less oppurtunities.
IMO we should just get rid of the point out system.... period. If they want a 'stepping stone' class, just televise the 'futures' class at every round.

Maybe, just maybe, the reason they try so hard and crash is because the series IS so short. No time to waste. Make it 17 races and you have to pace yourself.

Me too and is why I enjoy watching the 450 class.

The series would not be better if it wasn't East/West. Not every team can afford to go to 17 rounds either.

Absolutely, they should change it to east and west same as 450. point out at a completely different number much higher.
at the same time you should point out at 450 class also. If you point out of both classes, You are the next Goat., just kidding, then you have to race 500 2 stoke supercross.

IMO,

There should be 5 east coast and five west coast rounds. After those 5 rounds the top 15 from each coast qualify to participate in the 250 sx championship that is the last 7 rounds.

Riders go into the last 7 rounds with points according to their ranking in the qualifying rounds. 1st from each coast 26 pts, 2nd: 23 pts, 3rd 21pts and so on down to 15th.

The last 7 rounds the top 15 from each coast race for the championship. But start with a slight points advantage based on where they ranked in each coast.

Or even go 4 rds per coast then a 9 race series for top 15 from each coast.

I like this idea except for getting points via your point standing. Everyone starts at zero in the championship series, great idea!

three classes.

450 - all rounds
250 - all rounds
125 - east / west

Do the same for MX.

Keep east/west as a feeder class with stricter point out rules, introduce a 250 national series that does all 17 rounds without a point out system. More rides, more jobs and more racing. Plus! The guys on the fringe like karnow get a decent shot at a regional title.
